5 out of 5 eggsNUVi rulez

Pros: NUVI beats TomTom everytime.. I've had a few of both, and the Garmin's are just a much better experience overall.

Having this in the windshield showing the posted speedlimit and your current speed side-by-side in your line of sight is extremely helpful to stay aware of limit changes. Saved me from a few potential tickets when the limit drops considerably and I didn't see the sign. It's always on for this reason even when not navigating to a specific location.

Good battery life when taking out of the car for walking or using the car lighter port for charging other devices instead.

Cons: none really.

Other Thoughts: Lifetime maps is defiantly something to look for when your choosing models. Spend the few extra dollars now and you will be very glad you did later.

1 out of 5 eggsGarmins are the best, except for this one.

Pros: Out of the box, it works just like it should. Garmin stands behind this device and honors their warrenty. Newegg got it to me fast and working, like they always do!

Cons: I read many bad reviews and after having several Garmins before I thought the reviewers were just unlucky, or didn't know how to operate this device corectly. Now I realize, every bad thing said about this Garmin was the truth! I have it all happen to me, twice! Within 90 days, it would go into computer mode every time the power cord was connected and would quit charging. Garmin sent me a brand new one, which I appreciate, but it only lasted 6 weeks and started doing the same as the 1st. I have returned it now and Garmin is sending me another refurb, which I would not mind if it works.

Other Thoughts: I gave up on the traffice option and ordered a Nuvi 50LM. All the reviews are great for that GPS. It's got to be better. By a different Garmin. Google Maps does just as good on traffice and is more reliable! Garmin is great, but not this one.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: Gets you there everytime. Easy to program. Knows speed limit and will change within 100' of roadside sign. Usually finds satellite within 2 minutes sometimes within seconds.

Cons: Power hog when turned off. Pulls 0.75A when off and will run car battery down in 4 days or less if unused. Did this twice before I figured what was happening. Unplug if car is going to set more than 12 hours. Does not necessarily take you the best route to destination but will get you there. Best to know generally where you're going and let it recalculate.

Other Thoughts: About the best bang for the buck!

2 out of 5 eggsRefurbished with problems

Pros: Looks good

Cons: - boots and loads the map 8 out of 10 times when the car is started. This takes a long time while the unit is useless.
- White screen displayed... requires complete reboot to get it working.

Other Thoughts: Nice features when you get a good one.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall, pretty good.

Pros: LMT - Lifetime maps 'n traffic. Traffic is paid for by ads but the ads are not obtrusive. 5" screen size. Easy to use touch screen. Recertified unit already had fairly up to date firmware and maps. Voice software is getting better at pronouncing names of streets and places. No need to set time zone. Lane assist is a great asset. Knows the speed limit on many roads and quietly turns the MPH indicator red if you exceed it.

Cons: No printed instructions or disc included. Mapsource not included, nor any other way to download and work with waypoints and routes. Recertified unit shows registration date from six months ago on Garmin site. The voices downloadable from Garmin are not as well done as voices for Tom Tom. Searching for destinations tends to be sluggish. No control over manual detours. Larger screen does not necessarily mean finer resolution than its smaller brethren. No automatic brightness control.

Other Thoughts: About the registration date shown on the my.garmin.com dashboard site, Garmin says hang onto your receipt as proof of purchase.

Firmware update went smoothly but it was my fault that the map update failed the first time around. You really do need 10GB free space on your C: drive. When it was all done there was less than 70 MB free on the GPS receiver so if you want to download voices, pics, etc. you will probably want to spend another few dollars on a micro-SD card.

Default woman's voice (Jill) was not as understandable as Jack, even by my wife.

I wish the Nuvi would be more up front about how and why it re-routes around traffic. I do not like its tendency to put you on eight miles of crowded mall-lined secondary roads with out of synch traffic lights on a Saturday afternoon because it found a ten minute delay on the Interstate.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Junk

Pros: Lifetime maps and traffic included

Cons: Worked about 1 day. Started random re-boots, and then couldn't connect to a computer. Seems a big problem with this model from all the tech help on the same issue I've had to read after the fact.

Other Thoughts: I have a 1460 without traffic and it has worked flawlessly for years.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good deal..

Pros: Screen size is great, easy to navigate through the options. The LMT is a great addition to this unit.

Cons: The unit 'lost' all United States at random last week. I put an address in to the GPS, left the vehicle for approx 15 min and returned to find that the address was no longer up. It appeared that the unit had reset itself. When I went to enter the address, nothing could be found. When I went to the maps, the U.S maps were completely gone. I had options for Canada, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Bahamas I believe? I had to connect the GPS to my PC and re-download the maps in order for it to work again. Resetting it did no good.

I'm hoping this was a one time random act... I really don't want to have to bring it in to the home and go through the process of adding the maps back to the unit every week or two.
