5 out of 5 eggsWife Loves It

Pros: Easy to use, easy to enter in new addresses. There is only a single button on the frame, power, everything else is touch screen.

Cons: Perhaps it's a newby thing but when you tap and drag on the screen while in route (I thought it would move the screen so I can see further forward on the route) it thinks you want to change your destination to where you tapped.

Other Thoughts: I would like to have volume buttons on the frame. More specifically a rocker type button, up for volume up, down for volume down and center for mute (for those times when traffic makes you change the route and the unit keeps trying to get you to turn around and go back.)

4 out of 5 eggsGarmin Nuvi 50 5.0

Pros: I'm actually a Pizza Hut Driver, and this is my opinion. I've owned the Garmin 50 for close to a month now, and it is very handy. Simple to use, nice bright screen, and many other nice goodies that come with it too.

Cons: Probably the only dislike I have for this very nice little GPS is that, I can understand that it's not going to be 100% accurate. But when I'm on a rushed delivery it would be nice to have it tell me STOP HERE your destination is on the Right/Left. Instead of the destination closing in on 400ft - 300ft - 50 ft.

Other Thoughts: Tough, sleek, quality built, use of many years to come.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPS!

Pros: I bought this Garmin Nuvi 50 for my wife for Christmas. We previously have owned several Magellan roadmate GPS units. This Garmin is a step up. It processes faster and the speed limit and red light camera location is great, especially in southern AZ.

Cons: None yet, except I now want one too.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: *I had an older Nuvi 50w and gave it to my girlfriend while I upgraded to this one. It was a nice jump. I really liked the feature where it splits the screen to show you a picture of the street signs that you are looking for.

*The price was right.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsNuvi 50, disappointment

Pros: good screen size

Cons: no instuctions
no protective cover
one time update?

Other Thoughts: this is my first GPS since my ancient Garmin II. I feel that garmin cheaped out.
First there was no instruction booklet, not even for basics. That probably saved Garmin $0.25/unit. They say there is a "quickstart" in the box - that must be the 1 page on how to install the mount.
Second there was no protective cover for the unit - another 10 cents saved but I can buy one from them for $14.99.
90 day numaps? I bought this on Dec. 26 and it tells me my one time upload expired on Dec. 29 - the day I got it. and only a 90 day update period? Get real.
I've trusted the Garmin name but would I buy another? I doubt it, not if I have to pay all that money after purchase for things that should have come with it

4 out of 5 eggsGood upgrad

Pros: Good upgrade from 3.5 inch Nuvi 200. Uses same charger and mounting accessories as the 200. Has no bluetooth, lifetime maps, or traffic, and neither does the 200. Costs about the same as did the 200.

Same "Favorites" menu. Display, volume, and other menus similar to the 200, which is fine.

On the 200, I think when you touch the speed-readout on it's map, the display changes to a big, groovy, digital speedometer with trip statistics. The display on the 50 works almost the same.

Cons: Virtual QWERTY keyboard stutters and double-enters keystrokes. Every 3rd keystroke is an error, but thankfully it's not used very often. Other buttons don't do that.

Map covers 4.3" of the 5" display; there's a numerical info-bar of speed, time, time and/or miles-to-destination on the right edge that uses the rest of the display. I think there's a way to get rid of the numerical bar so the map fills the whole display, but I haven't found it. So the map is a little bigger than I'm used to, and the numerical info is useful and configurable.

I think the digital speedometer has a slightly slower response-time than the one in the 200.

In the main display with the map and the numerical info-bar, next to the 1/2" digital speedometer is a 1/2" "speed limit" readout that the 200 did not offer. When you go over the speed limit, the speedometer turns black on a deep red background, which is more difficult to read than when you're not speeding and the speedometer is plain black-on-white.

Other Thoughts: When you go over the speed limit, it would be better if the Speed-Limit icon turned red instead of the Speedometer icon.

If you use reading glasses, the larger display is marginally easier to use. Mostly, the larger real-estate is used to make the numerical statistics easier to read. The map-display seems only marginally larger, which is better than nothing.

I was satisfied with the instructions provided by the Nuvi 200 at highway interchanges. But with the Nuvi 50, as you approach highway interchanges, the map has an "improved graphic" that replaces the normal map -- whether you're going to turn or not. I find myself pushing on the touch-screen to make the "improved graphic" go away, because I think it's silly, especially if I'm just going straight through.

The digital speedometer, the deep-red reminder, and a cruize-control are a powerful combination for eliminating Lead-Foot Syndrome. But I leave the GPS in the glove compartment for my usual commute.
