Tech Level: 5/5
Rating: 3/5Almost Ready for Prime Time
Pros: Voice activation and recognition work well
Cons: Three main cons are (1) the speakerphone speaker volume is way too low, so speakerphone is basically useless (important for those who travel and use the unit in a rental car); (2) the FM traffic banner ads are persistent and annoying; (3) the traffic feed is not the best available, but is a middle-level service (the higher level service is also problematic, due to signal problems); and the FM receiver cable resembles a boat anchor cable laid across your dashboard.
Other Thoughts: I do not go anywhere without a traffic connected GPS. I have owned and used the top of the line from TomTom (Go 2535 Live, dependability issues) and Garmin (1690, 2495LMT, 3490LMT), and even the old Dash system GPS. The best unit in current production is probably the Garmin 1695, but it lacks voice recognition (my familiarity is based on my fav, the 1690) . The 2495 LMT is unusable because you cannot hear the speakerphone in your rental car, and because of the ubiquitous banner ads (add some volume and take away the ads and the 2495 wold be a good unit; the traffic feed is only a middle-level service, but at least you receive the signal). I am still giving the 2495 unit 3 eggs, because the voice recognition worked OK, and the traffic worked as promised, even though it's not the top of the line system. (Note that Garmin's next step up from the 2495, the 3490LMT, gets an even lower rating, because it gets very poor FM traffic reception, so its so-called HD traffic barely works at all.)
