5 out of 5 eggsGets me from A to B

Pros: I had a choice, spend $60 on upgrading my old unit, or spend $64.99 on this unit (on sale). Good choice. Nice thin design compared to my other unit, good solid suction to the windshield.

Cons: For the price, none.

Other Thoughts: Very decent unit. I think everyone should just consider selling your old unit once it hits the 1-2 year mark while it has some value and just replace. I can't really see the point in paying for updates when you can "trade up" for about the same or less and keep with current trends as they change.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Navigating Dallas, this device has proven to be invaluable. Even if you miss a turn or go your own way, it recalculates another good route for you instantly. No more getting lost. No more poring over maps.

No big problems to speak of. It locates pretty quick. The display is easy to understand. Menus are pretty good -- the Points of Interest and Search features are nice when you know a destination name, but not an address.

Cons: There have been a few map inaccuracies (once it wanted me to turn onto a nonexistent road; another time to take a *correct* highway exit with the *wrong* number), but nothing too terrible.

The sound can be a little soft at times, even with the volume turned up high (which introduces a lot of static). For example, it will say things like "TURN LEFT AT mumblemumble street." It can be hard to understand if it's competing with loud things like AC fans or music.

Guess it doesn't have the bells and whistles other navigators might have, like free map updates or traffic checking. That's just part of the low price.

Other Thoughts: Bought this locally for under $90. For being among the cheapest in the store, it's so far proven to be extremely useful. No regrets.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Really good, much better of a menu than a TOMTOM.

Cons: Distances are not perfectly accurate, maps need to be updated. Tried to go to a "sushi boat" ended up at a "sushi train".

3 out of 5 eggsNot A Garman!

Pros: For basic use it's O.K., nice size screen, comes with needed accessories, can't beat the price.

Cons: It's not as accurate as I expected... I have been testing this unit for two days now, and I have missed two turns, or arrival locations so far because this unit is too slow to react in complex road situations. Not good enough for what I need.

Other Thoughts: I have been using my Uncle's cheap-O' 3.5" Garman GPS for a few weeks now, and it is superior to this unit as far as I'm concerned. Way more accurate and alot easier to use.

Should Of Bought A Garman!

4 out of 5 eggsMagellan Maps and Routes

Pros: Magellan RoadMates are thin and easy to use. Although I have a 1470, I have used it to navigate in Florida where night time driving is difficult due to non-reflective signs way off the road. Once you download the user-manual, you'll have a much better time. Easiest to use if you choose freeways setting. Hardest on avoid freeways.

Being from Canada, I use the speed setting to keep to miles in the US. Wish it had known speeds for the route as they change so quickly on many roads.

Cons: You NEED the User Manual but there is no reference to it in the manual supplied with the device. For 2 years I struggled and was ready to toss it. Then I thought there must be a manual. Downloaded it and voila, I now don't go through all sorts of funny backroads while avoiding highways.

Despite updating the map, there are still errors (S instead of N). Many things like state parks are blanks even though they've been there for years. And it is hard to find places where you don't know the city you might be in. Means using POIs a lot. Many streets/roads don't show up till you zoom out.

A few times we wound up doing circles on teensy lanes to get back to a missed turn which we didn't know we had missed. So I guess it takes a lot of use to discover how it works best for you.

Other Thoughts: Other than the critique above, I'm now happier with the device. My only wish would be to be able to program my route inside without having to go outside so it can find satellites. And to be able to use my computer to route rather than back and forth between the map and the GPS to select waypoints which will take you along the routes you want.

5 out of 5 eggsHow did I get from A to B prior to getting this?

Pros: Features/Durability/Value and fast Newegg shipping! Nice GUI - used a few others and this Magellan GPS is the most user-friendly with a logical interface. Under $100 = price is right.

Cons: Screen is somewhat washed out in bright sun; but, this is not a defect - just an issue common to LCD screens in general.

Other Thoughts: Haven't updated the map yet - so I can't comment on any related costs and the process.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good GPS for the price

Pros: Cheap , voice guided navigation, large screen, easy to use User Interface. Comes with a plastic plate that can stick to the dashboard allowing the GPS to be mounted on the Dashboard instead of the windshield.

Cons: I did not get a chance yet to charge the GPS overnight but the battery when charged for a few hours with the car charger only lasts a few minutes. It will abruptly shutdown in the middle of the travel. Other than that this gadget is sweet.

Other Thoughts: Waiting for the perfect android phone that will replace my camera, mp3 player, Ebook reader, Portable Video Player, and finally GPS navigator.
