Other Thoughts: If you input a destination, you have a limited choice of how it calculates a route. If you don't slavishly follow the route it has calculated, it will go through idiotic reroutes for you to go back to the original route. A very big con for me. My tiny cheap Tom Tom is much more flexible and will offer many alternatives for routes and quickly recalculates a new route if you go off the set route. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful. poe 503 6/8/2012 10:35:39 AM Tech Level: 4/5 Ownership: 4/5	Rating: 5/5BIG Screen GPS Pros: My refurbished unit came professionally packaged and was "like new". It has a strong gps receiver and was easy to use. The software isn't fancy but capable. Made a few errors in giving directions but pretty much on par with other gps units I've owned. Th paper manual is short. You need to download the full manual from Magellan. Lots of accessories available for this online. Cons: None so far. Other Thoughts: There are no instructions for updating in the package. There is a sticker on the packaging that directs you to download free PC software for this unit. You first register your unit online (use only the numerical part of the serial no.) and then install the software. Attach the gps via usb and boot up the software. Have it look for updates, it will prompt a free update of firmware and map. Let it update. This operation is done 2 steps (firmare then map) with prompts to disconnect and restart the gps between the first and second step. This will take some time (2 gb of data); make sure the gps is full charged though I believe the unit is powered via the usb port when it is attached to the computer. You definitely want to be sure that the computer or gps doesn't shutdown during either installation step or you can brick the unit or could lose your free update.
