The TomTom ONE gives you brilliant basic GPS navigation, plus some really helpful advanced features to make your day on the road easier! You can choose fastest or shortest route, bicycle or walking route, or limited speed routing to avoid freeways. You can even tell the ONE what time you need to arrive at your destination, and choose your route accordingly. The ONE mounts quickly to your windshield with a simple heavy-duty suction cup mount, which is included.
The ONE 3rd Edition comes with pre-installed maps for the U.S. and Canada, and a large database of POI (Points of Interest) which helps you find necessities like food and gas, and fun stuff like shopping and attractions. The turn-by-turn voice directions help you find your destination without having to take you eyes off the road. With support for an optional traffic sensor (sold separately), and an “Avoid Roadblock” feature that lets you re-route around construction or other slow-downs, you can avoid burning gas unnecessarily while sitting in traffic. The TomTom ONE brings you everything you need to stay on time and out of traffic in one pocket-sized package!

Great Unit
- Pros: This is a great little unit. Some people will tell you that the other editions are better. But they are also more expensive, and do not have map share or the help me menu. (Unless it’s the LE edition)
I have never had a battery issue, it always last the entire trip. The TomTom Home software is the best gps software I have used. Make sure to always download the gps Quickfix to acquire the satellites more quickly.
- Cons: Cannot select specific restaurant options (American, BBQ)
- Other Thoughts: I just wanted everyone to know that Kubel was incorrect with his statement about the bluetooth on the second edition. Yes it is bluetooth enabled but not for talking on the phone, the bluetooth is for the TomTom Plus services. For instance traffic, or the weather. It uses your Phone's data connection through bluetooth. I own both editions. Plus I sell GPS.
Great! =]
- Pros: Love the GUI, calculates very fast, and extremely easy to use.
Charges while plugged into the computer (I don't Drive, I use it to walk and navigate). Battery lasts pretty long while not plugged in.
- Cons: Takes a while to acquire signal and a bit long to turn on, but not such a big deal. It's a very good GPS!
- Other Thoughts: usb charging for the win!

TomTom Hype
- Pros: It turns on and operates
- Cons: I have only used a few GPS units but find this one of the worst I have used. Although easy to program, it is terribly inaccurate and wants you to make turns where there is no road to turn on. In the DC area, it would have you turn into buildings as if they were roads. When coming home, it states "you have arrived" when you are about 1/4 mile away from it. I e-mailed TomTom and never got a response. It told me to buy a new map, and I did thinking it would perform better, it was the same. My parents road is not listed even though they have lived there since 1949. After I paid $99. for the map update, now they sent me a note saying that that one is out of date and I need to purchase a new one. Please, I urge you not to buy this unit as it will drain your pockets and only provide minimal GPS directions. There has to be others out there better than this one.
Best choice for the price
- Pros: - It is compact but still clear while driving
- Multiple voices, clear and precise. The GPS doesn't count with text-to-speech, so it won't tell you what specific street name you need to turn on, but it will give you precise directions while driving using different measurements so you know when to turn: miles and yards, plus it will consider your driving speed giving you the necessary chance to maneuver. - Route reprogramming is amazingly quick. - Excellent reception under bridges and tunnels and in buildings-crowded areas. - Items in the screen are customizable, the touch-screen is very sensitive so typing is easy. - Software installation is easy, updates are easy.
- Cons: - While driving, you cannot move the map with your finger, only zoom in/out which will not always let you know how the road ahead looks like.
- Favorites are limited to approximately 30 entries. Probably that is enough for the most of the people but I see no reason for not being able to store more entries.
- Other Thoughts: In summary, the unit will give you every feature that you need in a true GPS, without fancy features like MP3 and others that don't make to them and take a lot more money from your pocket.
A Little Different from Most....
- Pros: Bought on the recommendation of many happy TomTom owners and, well, it gets the job done. It's compact and turns on pretty quickly (about 30 seconds.) It will resume if the power is lost (more on why that's important below). The installation and connection to Windows (to download POIs, update firmware, etc.) was pretty easy. I previously owned an early gen Navicon and the battery power (about an hour for me on a charge) is more than enough considering that I'm using it in a car.
- Cons: Please keep in mind that I bought this on another site as a refurb. I had to write this review because as the owner of an older-gen Navicon, there are certain things that I came to accept that I was disappointed by. For one, the menu navigation, while giving you several different ways to search (start with Zip Code, Street, etc.) it certainly isn't the smartest navigation. For instance, there are many times when I'm not sure where I'm going and after putting in a zip code, it still presents me with unclear choices regarding the streets (like, five different instances of Berkshire Ave., each listed in a different city.) This isn't like once -- this happens REGULARLY -- so much so that I have to bring Google Maps to back this up.
But most dreadfully, my device (again, a refurb) has a tendency to lock up when searching the route. This happened several times, even when I was stationary, and it just locked up. Even when restarting, it will try to resume the path and then lock up.
- Other Thoughts: I think TomTom is more popular in the European market maybe because the interface lends itself a bit more to that geography(?) I know that many times it was too hard trying to get routes to places that the unit should have been smart enough to narrow down to choices. Also, the locking up is just unacceptable. (I downloaded new firmware - hopefully this will help.)
