The TomTom Rider is the ultimate in GPS support for your motorcycle! The rugged case is waterproof, and includes heavy-duty RAM mounting hardware that fits most bikes securely. The included Cardo wireless headset gives you clear, spoken directions right in your helmet, so you can concentrate on the road. The graphic interface is clean and simple, so it’s easy to navigate with gloved fingers.
When paired with your Bluetooth phone, Rider will automatically answer your calls and transfer them to the headset. The Buddy List feature allows you to locate other riders with TomTom units, so if you get separated from your group, you can find them quickly, or if you’re trying to decide whether to stop at one of your favorite haunts, you can see if any of your friends are already there.
Since the fine folks at TomTom understand that motorcyclists don’t always want to drive the most direct route, they designed Itinerary Planning that allows you to plan your desired route on the Rider or your computer, hitting all the good, windy roads, and avoiding the ones that are full of poky RV’s. Oh…and when you have to leave the bike at home, Rider works brilliantly in your car, too!

Great, but not perfect!!
- Pros: -Overall Great product.
-Easy to mount within minutes and the power cable is easy to install. -Can see who is calling you so you dont have to worry about missed calls while you're riding. -Easy to use with gloves on.
- Cons: -TomTom plus services like traffic upates, require dial-up n etworking over bluetooth which the G1 does not support so I cannot access those features. It should -have the traffic updates over RDS like the Navigon, not requiring a connection to my phone and data services on top of that.
-TomTom is not always as accurate. I have encountered some parts where it is slightly off in directions (this compared to Navigon. I have tested Garmin and it seems they have the same issue as TomTom). -People cannot hear me if I answer a call when I drive even if I try to put most of the mic inside the helmet. I have to pull over so the wind does not cause to much noise interference. Would have liked a mic that can be placed inside of the helmet.
- Other Thoughts: -It's a bit pricey, but considering it comes with the Scala bluetooth headset which goes to about 150-200 by itself, it is almost reasonable.
-A note to keep in mind for battery consumption. Sometimes when I try to turn it off, it doesnt actually shutoff, but goes to standby. To stop worrying about this, set the gps to turn off when it is not connected to power. This way once I disconnect the GPS from the mount it tells me the device will shutdown within 15 seconds. Puts your mind at ease.
Love my TomTom Rider 2
- Pros: Bluetooth connectivity to phone and Cardo headset is a marvel and makes me more comfortable when riding. Now my wife and kids can contact me with emergencies and don't have to wait for me to pull over and manually check my phone for messages. Phone numbers and names (if phonebook is loaded into Rider) show up on Rider screen.
Waterproof & shock-proof make this a great investment for motorcycle riders
- Cons: None yet.

One truly annoying device ...
- Pros: 1. Felt rugged and solid
2. Waterproof and vibration proof (cable won't disconnect as was the case with my old non-motorcycle GPS). 3. Ability to call points of interests straight from your gps / headset (if the headset is working out of the box that is).
- Cons: 1. Headset didn't work out of the box.
2. Power button is hard to press 3. Device doesn't recognize my fingers unless I'm using my nails or using a glove. 4. Back button takes you ALL the way back to the map instead one step back - that can get very annoying if you're playing around with the settings (which by the way are 8 pages of different options) and you want to change something one step back. 5. Dragging your finger across the main map does nothing and at the same time if you want to browse the map you have to go to the menu and then go to the second page where you will find the "browse map" option. 6. Scrolling through / browsing the map with your finger felt to be a huge pain because it didn't always go in the direction you wanted it to go. Redrawing the map in the process was also not smooth at all compared to my previous GPS. 7. I turned the sound, speech, headset and bluetooth off ON PURPOSE. The device still continued showing me a warning message that my headset is of
- Other Thoughts: All in all I used the device for about a couple of hours before putting it back in the box and shipping it back to new egg (thanks for your awesome product support and return policies guys!). This is probably a great hardware device with a terrible software / user interface.
It seems the TomTom is the cheaper motorcycle GPS solution for a reason ...
Excellent product, works flawlessly
- Pros: The TomTom Rider looks great, functions flawlessly and installs right on your handlebars. I had my TomTom installed at a motorcycle shop (American Trikes & Motorsports in Keene, NH) and they hooked it up to my ignition which is the best way to install the supplied battery power cord. This way, the TomTom is on and being charged when the bike is on to minimize draining the small motorcycle battery. The battery life is phenomenal so you never would have to worry about planning a trip and your battery going dead before you turn on your bike. The day of installation it was pouring outside so I took the bike for a spin and the TomTom worked flawlessly at 70 mph, it's really waterproof!
- Cons: Seperate wall chargers for the scala headset and tomtom device that look very similar. Almost damaged my headset by trying to plug it into the TomTom charger. Also, limited installation instructions for the battery cable for the DIYers. I brought mine into the shop to have it installed (and it looks awesome) but it woud've been nice to have detailed instructions to do it myself.
- Other Thoughts: If you've been thinking about GPS for your motorcycle this is it. It looks sharp, works great and is a couple hundred dollars less than the other motorcycle GPS offered on NewEgg.
