Routes
Never miss your exit with Advanced Lane Guidance
TomTom provides extra clarity when navigating difficult junctions by showing you which lane to take, so you won't miss your turn or have to make dangerous lane crossings. Photorealistic images and a pulsing green arrow indicate exactly which lane to use.

Always the smartest, fastest route with IQ Routes
Despite posted speed limits, traffic traveling along a road at 8 a.m. moves at a different pace than it does at 2 p.m. Actual traffic speed is affected by rush hour, traffic light changes, pedestrian traffic, day of the week, and more. Only TomTom offers exclusive technology that evaluates routes based on actual traffic speeds, rather than posted speed limits, and will recommend the fastest route for the time of the day.

2 out of 5 eggsCould use improvement

Pros: Can direct you where you need to go in unfamilar streets. Saved $100s on lost gas and time.

Cons: Bad resolution at close quarters (such as DC)
recalculating sometimes slow enough that the new route is already missed.
Doesn't tell you which lane to go in.
Rebate never arrived (5 years and still waiting, -1 star)
Costs as much to update maps as to buy a new unit

Other Thoughts: Modern smartphones have better gps nowaday.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Great but....

Pros: It works great. The screen is responsive, bright and it's very useful in getting you to where you are going.

Cons: Don't expect it to hold a charge for more than 2 or 3 hours so you have to keep it plugged into your lighter port most of the time. If you want updated maps you have to PAY for them even though you bought their (TomTom) product already you have to pay MORE money to get their updated maps.

4 out of 5 eggsCheep GPS.. was not expecting all that it came with

Pros: The turn by turn directions are load and crisp. I plugged it in and tried to get it confused by avoiding the route it was providing. It figured me out most of the time. I'm pleased with this cheep little gps. was cheaper then keeping my smart phone going with internet for the gps.

Cons: Dose not have my home address in it. The touch screen sometimes misread what you type. The window cup loses grip.. so it came flying off at me a few times

Other Thoughts: For something so cheep I'm impressed. I hope that it helps me to travel to my hubby to be for as long as I need to make the 200 mile drive every weekend.

3 out of 5 eggsDated product - still works fine

Pros: The GPS works and tells you where you are and knows the main streets. Comes with several voices to choose from and mounts easily. Touch screen works fine and it is easy to set up and work with. Comes with car charger and USB cord. Very cheap for a working GPS.

Cons: Kind of clunky and dated for a GPS. The voices are annoying and there are no map updates without paying an arm and a leg. Battery seems to hold a charge for a couple hours, but not ideal for long trips.

Other Thoughts: Sure beats the one I had on my little cheap cell phone. For this cost, if you're only going to GPS occasionally, this is a good deal. If you're looking for something decent, save up a little more and opt for a Garmin or something more modern.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: This unit is very cost effective, I got it for ~ $49 refurb also. It is small and easy to stash away. Speaks the turns/roads, has speed and basic functions. Battery life is poor or you don't get a new battery with the refurb. First time came with a map update that you do online.

Cons: Zooms right back in when you zoom out after a moment - No fix for this, I called them. Does NOT keep displaying hints, that person had it set up wrong, Battery supplied is not a new one, lasted about 1-2 months, then you have to keep it plugged in. Then after that you have to have it plugged in for a couple of minutes before it boots up. Boot up can be finniky, requiring reset. Small (1 gig?) storage, can only do USA-Mex not USA + Europe all at once. ETA is wrong for most roads unless you go all interstate. Worth the price. I still use mine as a "leave it in the old truck" one. Would not want as a primary travel/vacation one.

Other Thoughts: I also have a Garmin to compare to. That unit functions basically the same, except much better ETA with the Garmin and it can hold more maps. They must have 35 mph for everything except interstate because that is how it seems like it does the calc.

1 out of 5 eggsPass this one, Fails right after warrenty expires.

Pros: Worked for 1 year for a half dozen trips

Cons: no free map updates, Failed while i was in the middle of nowhere when used less than a dozen times with a flashing red X 2 weeks after the warranty expired. Unhelpful tech support if you can even get through to them. $10 if you want updated maps. Told me to turn onto a bike path, directions sometimes take you on ridiculous detours.

Other Thoughts: Pass this one and get a cell phone with navigation or a model that is more reliable and has free map updates.

2 out of 5 eggsGood price, but annoying features.

Pros: I bought it over a year ago here for $50. Great price at the time. It's since gone up.

Cons: Price has gone up, lol.

Battery dried up just a few months into purchase. Won't hold a charge for more than a few minutes.

When you zoom out, it automatically zooms back in after a few seconds (and vice versa) - sometimes useful, mostly annoying.

Maps were a year old, at least, a year ago when I bought the device. Map upgrade costs more than the device.

Hints never go away. No option to turn them off, that I can see. My older TomTom's had that option. Just when you think you're through with the ridiculous hints, another shows up. Sweetheart, I don't need you to tell me how to use a GPS.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it. Just typing this review makes me angry.

1 out of 5 eggsVery disapointed

Pros: Easy to use. Easy to read. Nice mount.

Cons: Updates are very difficult. Battery life is poor. Not worth the money. Mine just failed on a trip to CA. I cannot recommend this product. Stay away from this model of Tom Tom. Other models of Tom Tom maybe good, but this one isn't.

Other Thoughts: Get a Garmin. I hear they have better support for their products. I will be trying a Garmin next.
