Disapointment
- Pros: Feature Set, Size, Speaker Volume, Mount
- Cons: Tom Tom Home Software
- Other Thoughts: I decided it was time to upgrade my nav device. I have a 3 year old Tom Tom One that has served me well. Instead of paying $99 to upgrade the maps on my old device, I decided to spend an extra $50 and get the 140S.
Out of the box the device worked great I was very happy with the size features and speaker volume. I then made the mistake of connecting it to my computer to check for any updates and backup the device. After backing up the device and applying the updates I disconnected it from my computer and could not get the device to work again after this. The first problem was a 'Red X'. The next problem was a frozen screen.
I tried for 2 days to fix the device using the recommendations from customer service. I was at the point where I was going to call customer service to try and get further assistance, but decided to return the device instead. I am now the proud owner of a Garmin 755T.
Not so great
- Pros: Recalculates fast
- Cons: Map is all messed up
- Other Thoughts: I guess it depends on what area you are in but the one I got had all street numbers of the houses in the wrong areas where I live. This unit was also my second one because the first one froze up on me. Overall I do not recommend this product.

great unit - how to fix updating
- Pros: 1. IQ Routes are awesome
2. Speaks street names
3. Cheap in comparison to garmin
4. Free community map corrections, voices, POI
5. Customizable - Create your own voices, POI, map corrections
- Cons: 1. Needs GPS quick fix update. Not really ready to go out of the box.
2. Does not check to see if there is enough space free before installing updates. Although this did not cause any problem for me when it happened.
3. Cannot install multiple updates at a time. I want to check off a bunch of POIs and add them to my device. It still beats the hell out of garmin's update interface.
- Other Thoughts: Many people have complained about updating the device. If you are careful you can get past the GPS memory card getting full.
1. First off start the TOMTOM one application and Back up your device.
2. Remove all of the voices you will not use. Since this unit speaks street names the voice files take up alot more room than other devices. This can be done from manage my device.
3. Once you have removed the foreign voices you should be able to squeeze the updates in.
Newegg's deal isn't the best
- Pros: Good GPS for the money - newest model of TomTom ONE (as of 7/09). Compact and easy to use.
- Cons: Newegg doesn't have the best deal...save $20 from other big retailers amz/buy
