Routes
Never miss your exit with Advanced Lane Guidance
TomTom provides extra clarity when navigating difficult junctions by showing you which lane to take, so you won't miss your turn or have to make dangerous lane crossings. Photorealistic images and a pulsing green arrow indicate exactly which lane to use.

Always the smartest, fastest route with IQ Routes
Despite posted speed limits, traffic traveling along a road at 8 a.m. moves at a different pace than it does at 2 p.m. Actual traffic speed is affected by rush hour, traffic light changes, pedestrian traffic, day of the week, and more. Only TomTom offers exclusive technology that evaluates routes based on actual traffic speeds, rather than posted speed limits, and will recommend the fastest route for the time of the day.

4 out of 5 eggsNice for the Price

Pros: Works well, good battery life, easy interface

Cons: None that I can find

Other Thoughts: Not a big user of other GPS systems but this is solid and wasn't too terribly pricey.

5 out of 5 eggsGPS RMA Update!

Pros: (This is an update on my RMA process)

I got a brand new GPS to replace the one that stopped working after 2 months! It took a total of 3 weeks since I sent it out to get it back and I got no problems from TomTom after I sent them a screenshot of my Newegg receipt and my info. Got a new box with the cables and everything even though I had only sent them the GPS (as they asked).

RMA worked, thank you "Nicky"!

Cons: I mailed them my GPS using Canada Post (they asked me to send it to a company in Ottawa) and 2-3 days later the tracking showed that the product was received fine. A week later, TomTom said they didn't receive it.

I gave them the tracking number, assured them it was sent, they "escalated the case to their senior support" and about a week later they told me I should expect to get my GPS the next day.

I didn't get it for 3 days, messaged them informing them about that, they "escalated the case to their senior support" again and a few days later I got my GPS. :)

Other Thoughts: TomTom got the job done but they lost track of my GPS twice! Pretty weird for a GPS company! Overall, it took 3 weeks and about $7 in shipping to get a new GPS so it wasn't too bad. (I paid to send it to them, they paid to send it to me)

Great device, relatively quick customer service and I'd just like to say that after all the negative comments I saw about their customer service, I can't really understand that. I assume most people wanted an RMA without a receipt, which most companies don't accept. Personally, outside of shipping me a pre-paid package, I don't think they could have done more.

4 out of 5 eggsGood GPS, Zero Company Support

Pros: - Good UI
- Good price
- TONS of points of interest (finds all restaurants, gas stations, airports, etc. in Montreal including their phone number most of the time)
- Shows speed limit for many streets and your current speed (turns red if you drive too fast)

Cons: Holder. It's very easy to plug in and out the GPS into the holder, so it seems great, but it came unstuck many times. Sometimes it falls out with no GPS in it just from the heat or something.

Worst thing:
Had this GPS for around 2 months (bought it from here) and it doesn't turn on anymore. I have yet to be able to speak to anyone at Tomtom about it. Spent 2 hours on hold last time and no one answered.

Everyone has just negative things to say about their support. Apparently they don't repair their products and don't even talk to clients who've had the device for longer and lost their receipt. I hope to not have a similar experience because I have my receipt but so far I can't reach anyone at Tomtom.

Other Thoughts: If I can't get it replaced or fixed by Tomtom, I'll be back with a negative update. :)

I asked around and having places like Circuit City ship the GPS off for repairs costs the same price as a new GPS so even the workers at the stores told me it's not worth it.

5 out of 5 eggs2nd GPS Device

Pros: For $149, you cannot get a better GPS system.
Latest map available after installing TomTom Home 2.
Intuitive user interface.
Has itinerary planning.
Has MapShare for sharing changes in your community.
The GPSFix update allows the unit to located the GPS satellites better(usually gets updated weekly).
Directions can be recalculated on the go.

Cons: No Linux support(I have contacted TomTom & they stated that they may support it if more people request it). I found it odd that a Linux based device cannot be updated on a Linux OS.
No SD Card slot
No way to view the tracking information like on my Garmin.
MapShare does not allow you to define a missing road and have it display on your device.(It does allow you to define a missing road and send it to TomTom though)

Other Thoughts: I currently own 2 GPS systems, the TomTom XL 340S and a Garmin KNA G510. The TomTom unit is much easier to use and provides a decent set of features compared to the Garmin. I still would like to be able to view the tracking data from the TomTom like I can with the Garmin.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it...most of the time

Pros: -Large screen
-Spoken street names
-Suction cup mount is nice (but see con's)
-I like the GUI better than some of the other major brands

Cons: -Windshield mount is easy to attach to the windshield, but getting the unit in the mount is overly difficult
-Takes FOREVER to find the satellites when first turned on
-No battery low warning, it just shut itself off in the middle of NYC!
-Worst con of all...if you are driving on a highway with EZPass lanes at toll booths that are "at speed" lanes (meaning you can drive through at 65mph) TomTom thinks this is the fastest way to go so it tells you to get in that lane (even if you don't have EZPass). I got a ticket in NJ because of this. WATCH OUT!

Other Thoughts: I got this for my wife for Christmas and we love it. But the three things I would warn people about are the somewhat difficult windshield mount, the lack of low battery warning and the EZPass "bug" (I might actually email TomTom about this).

4 out of 5 eggsI Like this GPS Alot

Pros: * Lightweight
* Fast and accurate
* Mapshare technology
* High end features at a bargain price, such as IQ routes.

Cons: * Mount is difficult to work with, especially on extremely sloped front windows. It works great once you get it on and mount the GPS.
* For those that want it, the lack of a receiver for traffic and real time POI info.

Other Thoughts: I liked this unit enough that I bought another one this week for my use. Traffic info at this point is over rated. It's unreliable and can vary from one unit and manufacturer to the next. I think that the IQ routes do an excellent job of routing based on the history of hundreds of thousands of trips.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPS!

Pros: Widescreen, IQ routing, speaks street names

Cons: None (for me)

Other Thoughts: For the $$, this is a great GPS. Not wanting all the bells and whistles that come with the GO models, I opted for this unit and have no regrets. Got the updated maps with the 30 day guarantee too.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Sat Nav

Coming Soon!

Pros: This sat nav is fantastic, a sure upgrade from my old Nuvi 260! I have downloaded and installed the UK/ROI 2010 maps because it is primary used in the UK. It is very quick at calculating routes, highly clear instructions, and dead easy to operate.

Cons: None at all

Other Thoughts: The best voice for this GPS is "Kate (UK)". I have uploaded a video of the Tomtom UK Kate voice.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat GPS !!

Pros: "Advance Lane guidance" is really nice. Helps keep you in the right lane when you find yourself on one of those highways designed by a dyslexic monkey.

Suction cup mount holds very well (once you figure out how it works)

Loads directions quickly.

Sound is very clear and plenty loud as long as your not driving windows open or anything.

Cons: Slow GPS pickup on start-up: I find after having the unit powered off for a while it sometimes can take up to 5 min. to get a good GPS signal.

As others have mentioned the power cable input is a bit too snug, in the dark it can be an ordeal trying to get it in there just right.

The place where the mount clips to the back of the unit can be a little tough to clip on sometimes because when you try to snap it in the arm moves, would be nice if they made it so you could lock the mount hinge.

Other Thoughts: Overall this has done the job it bought it for very well. I use it mainly to get to peoples houses I've never been to, or for short road-trips. I bought my dad an tom tom a while back and decided to get one for myself after using his One 130. I decided I really wanted to get one with "advance lane guidance", and that could read out the road names. This was the cheapest one that had those particular features, and it did exactly what I asked of it!
