awesome device
- Pros: CHEAP: it has 95% features of my 930T and cost 1/2 as much
RESPONSIVE: this unit even picks up gps signal in my house with 4 out of 5 bars. something my GO 930T can never do...this means that it will be able to pick signal from under tunnel, bridges, or a lot of tall buildings. FAST: This unit seems to be a lot faster than my expensive 930T i bought 3 months ago. Faster bootup time. Touch LCD are a lot more responsive. HUGH SPEAKER: this has a big speakers that produce a way sharper and louder instruction speech compare to 930T THIN: very ergonomically design. Thin and sleek. BRIGHT BEAUTIFUL 4.3" screen. Nice and bright. Auto-dim when it gets dark. UNIT came with latest map 8.40 HOME 2: nice software to download new updates, gas prices, one time map update, POI, voices
- Cons: USB Car Charger cable is horrid. Very hard to take out of the TOMTOM unit. This is because of the huge rubber mount surrounds the mini-usb, i have to file it down. This is a tip for you guys, simply file the rubber mount to a smaller size and you're good.
EasyPort mount is a little flimsy. I worry that is in the way of the huge speakers
I am just being nit picking but the 340S does not allow RECALCULATE directions. My 930T allows me to recalculate direction, let say when I choose to avoid a tow and get 120miles. But 930T allows me to recalculate map and not to avoid tow and get 109miles. I can compare and choose best action. With 340S, i have to start all over again. So click DONE to 120miles, then choose NAVIGATE TO, RECENT DESTINATION, choose avoid or not to avoid tow all over again.
NO European Map, FM transmitter, blue tooth
- Other Thoughts: I bought this for my uncle. I have a Tomtom GO 930T and it costs twice as much as the 340S. I am quite impressed with this 340S device. It has a new fast processor. Everything seems to be instant, my 930T seems to be laggy at times compare to 340S
Very impressed with its ability to pick gps signal even in my house. So i know it will do well around tall buildings, under a tunnel or bridge. I wish my overpriced 930T is this talented.
I love these devices. So helpful driving at night. Sometimes you don't know what to expect ahead (what direction to steer), but TOMTOM you can see if the road get curve to left/right. I took my 930T to Canada and it's perfect. My 2000 Lexus GS 400 car navigation was useless in Canada.
Highly recommended. Get one, you'll love it
- Pros: Hats off to their superb tech support. I phoned 3 times on different issues, mounting options etc., (none of these issues was related to the function of the unit itself.)
The longest I had to wait for a tech was about a minute. Each tech was friendly articulate and knowledgeable. Now to the functioning of the unit itself. The initial linking to satellite was rather slow, but thereafter it was extremely fast. And the connection remained in spite of trees heavy clouds etc. I live in an area where the shortest route to the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway is far from the fastest. You have to go through shopping areas and traffic lights. Us locals know the short cut. With my previous GPS I ignored its directions until I got to the Expressway using my own knowledge of the area. Once I got to the Expressway I let the unit take over. This Tomtom took me through the same route that I would have taken to the Expressway. Amazing!
- Cons: I mounted my prvious Garmin GPS using a bean bag device made by Garmin. The unit is securely locked in place to the bean bag unit without suction, and the beanbag remains securely resting on my dashboard. I never trusted suction cup units, always expecting the device to fall off and land in my lap. I bought a brackton dashboard mount for this unit, and while the unit seems to lock securely into place, it is done via a suction device, which I don't trust. My unfounded prejudice? Maybe.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this on sale for $179 (afeter an additional $10.00 off when I bought it with the Brackton mount).
It is an amazing unit. Very sensitive and the IQ technology really works.

Fantastic Sat Nav
-
- Pros: This sat nav is fantastic, a sure upgrade from my old Nuvi 260! I have downloaded and installed the UK/ROI 2010 maps because it is primary used in the UK. It is very quick at calculating routes, highly clear instructions, and dead easy to operate.
- Cons: None at all
- Other Thoughts: The best voice for this GPS is "Kate (UK)". I have uploaded a video of the Tomtom UK Kate voice.
Great GPS !!
- Pros: "Advance Lane guidance" is really nice. Helps keep you in the right lane when you find yourself on one of those highways designed by a dyslexic monkey.
Suction cup mount holds very well (once you figure out how it works)
Loads directions quickly.
Sound is very clear and plenty loud as long as your not driving windows open or anything.
- Cons: Slow GPS pickup on start-up: I find after having the unit powered off for a while it sometimes can take up to 5 min. to get a good GPS signal.
As others have mentioned the power cable input is a bit too snug, in the dark it can be an ordeal trying to get it in there just right.
The place where the mount clips to the back of the unit can be a little tough to clip on sometimes because when you try to snap it in the arm moves, would be nice if they made it so you could lock the mount hinge.
- Other Thoughts: Overall this has done the job it bought it for very well. I use it mainly to get to peoples houses I've never been to, or for short road-trips. I bought my dad an tom tom a while back and decided to get one for myself after using his One 130. I decided I really wanted to get one with "advance lane guidance", and that could read out the road names. This was the cheapest one that had those particular features, and it did exactly what I asked of it!
Map Guarentee is useless
- Pros: Like the TomTom maps better than the ohter GPSs I have used. Liked the broad selection of voices that are available. Like the ability to mark map corrections/updates and share them on TomTom mapshare so that things were more up to date. Best mount and slimmest I have seen. Really liked the interface software.
- Cons: The unit comes with a guarentee for 30 days after registration to update to the newest map. The newest map is too large (1.98 gb) to fit on the unit (1.91 gb) even if you delete all the voices. If it was only US and Canada it would fit - but the unit is US-Canada-Mexico which does not fit. Support was not very quick to respond and at this price I expect it to work the first time. Back it went and purchased a similar priced one from the competitor brand.
- Other Thoughts: Unit needs to be expandable via flash card so that future updates are installable. Needs to add a speed limit indicator on the mapscreen. These two things would make this the GPS to own. But since it is out of date when you buy it and it can't be updated with the free update - had to return it. Look at other sites with reviews of this and you will see the problem is chronic.
