Rating: 4/5Good GPS, not the fastest though.
Pros: The GPS has pretty good directions, and connects to the GPS system much faster than our older tomtom 720 go. The screen is nice and wide which lets me spend less time looking at the screen trying to figure out where to turn. Battery life is semi decent, usually lasting 2 to 6 hours depending on the area.
Cons: When entering addresses and such, the gps searches it's entire database for street names, regardless of state. This gps takes a couple of minutes to enter in an addres. Also zooming in and out of maps is slower than I'd like
Other Thoughts: I wouldn't hesitate to buy this GPS again, the value is great. Tomtom is the only GPS I like, thanks again.

Rating: 1/5Magelllan is Better
Pros: Big Screen, speed limit warning.
Cons: Does not tell you the address of your destination if you click on the checkered flag, you have to go back to the previous destinations screen to get the address. You will need this address because its rarely accurate and by the time you have it talks even driving 3mph you just missed your destination, It does not tell you if its on the right or left side of the street. Re-calculating is painfully slow, think minutes, not seconds. The charger plastic fatigued with less than 1.5 years of use and broke. To turn down the volume you have to do it on screen, it sometimes works and sometimes does not, if you get a phone call and its loud very aggravating to turn down. Does not have grocery stores under POI destinations, has shopping centers?
Other Thoughts: Buy a Magellan, have used TomTom and Garmin, the best is Magellan, the chime is awesome and the least use of freeways is a must have in Los Angeles. Bought this unit at Radio Shack not Newegg, the only reason I bought a tom tom is radio shack discontinued the magellan.

Rating: 2/5Tom Tom XXL 550 Review
Pros: Map graphics are pretty nice, does not look "cartoony" like other GPS units. Suction mount easy to use. Voice loud and easy to understand. Good price.
Cons: GPS signal lost several times for a couple of minutes in a 45 mile trip. Speed limit info was not correct (off by 15 MPH for most of the trip). Voice prompts were a little annoying, GPS would announce "in 1 mile keep right then keep right" on a 6 lane highway a mile before a left turn. GPS would announce "stay on the left lane" when 3 lanes were available for no reason (I usually drive on the right unless I'm passing). Not happy with the accuracy of GPS signal at all, at one point the signal drifted the car off the highway for about 45 seconds and recalculated another route.
Other Thoughts: Ad for this Tom Tom XXL 550 mentioned "free lifetime maps and traffic" but none are available for this model. You get a 1 time map update within 30 days of purchase.

Rating: 1/5bad deal
Pros: Good GPS. Works well.
Cons: Map updates cost almost as much as the initial price.
Other Thoughts: Don't get stuck with this - others are selling the same unit WITH lifetime maps for the same price Newegg charges without.

Rating: 5/5Awesome GPS
Pros: This is a great GPS. It is very accurate, the traffic monitoring is really useful and works as advertised. It has saved me already countless hours of getting stuck in traffic jams. TomTom Home automatically informs me of any updates when I plug my GPS to my Mac. The lifetime map updates are a major plus. Very easy to use.
Cons: None really.
Other Thoughts: The map update was over 1 gigabyte and it took quite some time to update. Went out to dinner, came back and it was done. Not a negative but thought I'd let you know.

Rating: 2/5Avoid!
Pros: Price, lifetime maps and traffic included, 5" screen. Got it at Costco for $170. I was happy owner of the older TomTom model (GO720)
Cons: 1. TomTom Home application does not support Windows 7/64bit I ended up using it with VirtualMachine runninf XP 32 bit.
2. Every time I set the volume on my TomTom above 85% the voice guidance stops working. I see references to this problem on various blogs and posts for past 6 month. But no solution so far.
3. When in TomTom Home application I click Tools>Use Latest Map Guarantee. Next screen informs me that "A new map is available for your navigation device." When I click the "Get it now" button, next screen has a sign "No items available" TomTom's has a link "TomTom Map Update Service Q & A" When you click the link (http://www.tomtom.com/10453) you get "Page not found" screen
Other Thoughts: TomTom used to be a reputable device maker. I am amazed how ignorant they are to customers needs. Windows 7/64 bit has been around for almost 15 month now. Most of current PC sold in US are 64bit. And yet TomTom's app (and I assume their software engineers) does not know what 64 bit is. Are they still running Windows 3.11 at TomTom Headquarters?
