1 out of 5 eggsAvoid at all cost

Pros: Any pros are irrelevant given the cons

Cons: Check out "Reader for PC Horrible Application" on the Sony Forum. You can't find it with Google. You have to go to the sony web site --> Support Forum (footer of the page), scroll down to "Reader Digital Book" --> Reader Library Software --> Reader for PC Horrible Application. Sure wish I'd found this BEFORE I bought my eReader. The comments are "right on."

2 out of 5 eggsThat's a warranty?

Pros: Nice display, works great with Calibre.
Doesn't have the burdensome 160-page legalese you have to agree to with the Nook, doesn't demand that you register an account (also Nook), and doesn't think it has the right to "unsell" things you've bought (Kindle).

Cons: Wi-Fi failed within 6 months, doesn't see any networks at all. Under the "warranty" I can pay $30 for a refurbished unit, or send it off for repair and pay a minimum of $25, then wait for weeks. Either way, my year warranty vanishes and is replaced by a 90-day warranty on the refurbed or repaired unit I guess this is better than no warranty at all, but it's sure not what *I* would consider a decent warranty.

Supplied software just bags it. Awful. Useless. Period Dot. Use freeware Calibre instead

Touchscreen sometimes works, sometimes doesn't so I've gotten used to pressing the "next page" button instead.

Other Thoughts: Sony should be ashamed of themselves for this sorry "warranty", especially for the part that eats itself when you have a claim. Think pretty hard about this. It's probably worth getting a Square Trade warranty. It might seem a little pricey, but if you do have a problem, like I did, you at least won't get socked 30 bucks to do anything.

I probably won't bother, since I hardly use the Wi-Fi feature anyway, but I sure resent losing it.

5 out of 5 eggsSony e-reader - worth owning

Pros: I saw a video on YouTube of someone demoing it. I knew then it was what I wanted. I have been searching the web for this very thing - the tablets are too heavy and pricey.

Very comfortable to hold and it weighs so little. Reads the PDF technical documents on my SDHC micro card. This is the main reason I wanted it. I have hundreds of PDF files and now I can keep them all in one place and organized them as needed. It takes notes using the accompanying stylist. This is my first e-reader/tablet. I’ve seen the Kindle and Kindle Fire but neither have a micro SD slot. The Sony e-reader has a great adjustable screen which can be read in sunlight. Set up WIFI, browse the web, and lots configurable settings – and its FAST! All of this and it’s just my first day as owner.

Cons: Sort of flacky screen rendoring has you change viewing sizes but the screen updates so fast I don't care.

Other Thoughts: The extended warranty/replacement program from Newegg also is what sold me on the Sony e-reader (black). This is the product for me and at a great price too – thanks Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsMy First eReader

Pros: Light, free connection to public library, access to Gutenburg Project, Sony Reader Store and GoodReads have tons of free books that can be read on this reader. Screen looks just like book page. Easy on the eyes. Holds battery charge for a long time. Stereo quality using headphones is excellent!

Cons: No way to copy items from inserted SD card to the reader internal storage (I just got it so maybe I am missing something, can probably do this if it is connected to a PC and the SD card is installed in the PC).

Other Thoughts: I was torn between a Nook Color, Kindle Fire and the Sony PRS-T1. After researching, I found that the Kindle Fire didn't have e-Ink, which makes the ebooks look just like a paper book. Also, I have a laptop and a HTC Thunderbolt phone, so I didn't really need a tablet (Kindle Fire/Nook Color). I decided on the Sony and I am totally happy so far.

I used to read books for enjoyment quite often, and over the past several years, it seems that all I've been reading is tech manuals to keep up on my job. I decided to try to get back into pleasure reading and figured an eReader would facilitate this. It worked right out of the box, I connected with my public library, then visited the Sony Reader Store to download several free books.

5 out of 5 eggssweet reader

Pros: Wow. Long battery life. Lots of built in features, multilingual dictionaries are handy. Nice compact lightweight reader. Lots of books at the Sony store and no problem finding what I wanted.

Cons: Paper white display needs a light source to read.

Other Thoughts: Get the cover with built in reading light for best results.

5 out of 5 eggsPRS-T1 Review By Sam

Pros: The Ebook Reader is great. It connects to the computer very easily. PDF and epub formats work great. All in all a great ereader.

Cons: 1. The red ereader is a DARK PINK not red. But since it was for a girl its ok. But do not be fooled by the description. I got the reader and its pink not red.
2. The book management software sucks, I downloaded calibre way better.

Other Thoughts: Besides the pink thing its a great buy.

4 out of 5 eggsGood so far.

Pros: No #$@%$^g "special offers."
Touch screen AND page buttons.
Loads of fairly easy to use features (easy to change screensaver for instance)
I like the shiny red case, you might like boring gray like that other place sells.
Get calibre and you can pretty well use all easy to find FREE books online

Cons: Touch screen tends to freeze after a couple of hours.
Black and white screen, but hey, color costs a lot more.

Other Thoughts: Sony is aware of the firmware bug that causes touch screen to freeze. You can reset by pushing end of a paper clip in easy to use reset button, but the warning says you might lose all content on reader. I've had to reset a couple of times, but still have all my books I've loaded. Back them up to a hard drive in an external enclosure, buy both cheap on Newegg of course. For me this is the best ereader. I checked them out for months, read all the reviews, and am very satisfied. Five Stars once the bug is fixed.
