3 out of 5 eggsCruz PS 47

Pros: It is light. It has a responsive screen. Since the Android version of the OS is Gingerbread, it runs about everything that you download. Plays Flash content quite well. Screen resolution is fine. It was well-priced when I got the refurb unit from Newegg. One has to keep that in mind. It makes it a real bargain depending on the price that you get it at.

I always found service response quite good from Velocity Micro.

The WiFi has good sensitivity.

Audio recording is good. The unit also has excellent volume.

Cons: I suppose these are cons if you don't want to work around them, I don't mind tinkering with the tablet. the four command touch sensitive buttons for Menu, Home, Search, and Return are poorly marked out. I have a Dymo-label maker and placing markers --below-- these buttons make them much more easy to find!

The turn on for the WiFi doesn't stay on at times during sessions, and then you wonder why you can't connect to wireless until you remember you have to go into the settings and turn it on again.

There is a low-resolution camera on it, and is basically only good in well-lit situations. It also mirrors the image which makes it useless for QR codes -- in real time. Use a photo editor to correct that.

I'm not sure how well the Blue-tooth works, I think it works, but I need to try some devices that may be more standard to see how well that does. My judgment is held on that feature.

Low battery life! if you're doing a mix of video viewing and surfing the net, I haven't found that it will run for over four hours. As an another reviewer also pointed out, it's sleep mode is only a semi-sleep that will run down the battery more quickly than it should, so turn the unit completely off between sessions!

Sometimes it acts strangely insensitive to the touch, etc. This is cured by using the reset (the standard round toothpick makes a good tool for getting to the reset switch.)

Usually when the screen recalibration (why I don't know why it the tablet does that) it will bring that up automatically. The recording app that comes with it, uses what is apparently the standard for Android gp3? This is poor fidelity put on a free app that may up SD space because it is recorded in the WAV format, but still the audio quality from the pinhole microphone.

It appears the pdf reader app that comes with it is faulty. I just downloaded Adobe Reader, which is just as good or better for pdf app that is built in.

I really don't mind fiddling with it, at all, but I suppose the two things that bug me the most is short battery life and border line camera. --But-- at the price I paid for it, I have no intention of sending it back, it's a fun, practical tablet.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy one!

Pros: fast, screen, have not found anything that wont run on it, light, build quality!

Cons: cant be rooted, no updates from VM, no HDMI output.

Other Thoughts: I have a PD Super Nova, and an iView 756TPC, I buy the cheap tablets, and this one is just as good, my second VM product and the build is VERY GOOD!

2 out of 5 eggsGood as a reader - bad as a tablet

Pros: As a reader, this is a pretty nice unit for the price paid ($99). Kindle books work very nicely and have had no problems with this functionality.
Able to add SD card to increase available memory.
Arrived very quickly from Newegg!

Cons: Velocity Micro has intentionally removed some of the Android functionality, so you cannot go to the actual Android Market at all without jailbreaking the unit, and the [Mythical Women Warriors] App store will not download or update existing apps. Applications will start to download and then the download will fail. There are no firmware or other updates for the tablet, and customer support is nonexistent.

The "sleep" function of the tablet rapidly drains the battery, so you must power-off the device when not in use unless you want to charge it every time you pick it up. Battery life is so-so as long as you remember to fully power off each time.

Other Thoughts: This tablet has a lot of possibilities, but is hampered by intentionally crippled software. Perhaps a good "experimental" unit if brought at $99 price point.

2 out of 5 eggs3rd Tablet a Charm?

Pros: Cheap, Quick, Capacitance Multi-touch, Good ARM Processor, Fair amount of memory, High Resolution for 7" tablet, Wireless N, Bluetooth

Cons: Could use more memory, slow at times due to this (how much could another 512mb of memory possibly cost when you can get 16GB for $100????), Old Android version with no possible upgrade, No Google Store,

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my sister when it was $100. First one started having Screen anomalies, second the touchscreen didn't work at all, on my 3rd now and haven't owned it long enough to know if it works properly. Worst part is that I ahve had to pay for shipping each time which I think is extremely unfair considering I didn't break the thing.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Worth it

Pros: Nice tablet if you dont want to do anything more than use the apps that are already installed.

Cons: I tried to update the Iheart radio app that was already installed on the tablet and was not able to. It said it was going to upgrade to version 4.21 and then crashed. So I went to the net and tried to download the app which I was blocked from doing. The Cruz market place only had the 4.20 update which I had updated it from the 4.0 already installed when I got the tablet.

Other Thoughts: I am not sure what I got. The tablet looked slightly used, I got three bags but only two had something in them, all three were very dirty. There was a used wall charger (without cable) and USB cable inside the two bags. There was no sleeve, but I expected that due to the reviews. My tablet doesn’t have 2 gigs of internal memory only 1 gig and out of that only 170 mb free. Not a huge deal considering I was going to stick a micro SD card in it, but when I can’t update even the Iheart radio app things are already looking grim within the first few hours of owning it. I am sending it back, I have learned my lesson.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Price

Pros: Great Screen, Adobe Flash, Streams Netflix

Cons: Locked into Ama*on Marketplace

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an Ipad, then don't buy this tablet. However, If you looking for a good tablet at a inexpensive price. This is a good tablet to buy.

3 out of 5 eggsAdequate, but not great

Pros: Boots up fast, fairly responsive. Screen is good, but not great. Not a bad product for the money, I bought it at $99.99. Newegg was advertising this as being on sale for
$99.00 versus usual price of $199.00. I noticed two days after I ordered the ps47 that had dropped their regular price down to $109.00, so apparently I didn't get such a good deal afterall.

Cons: Product is supposed to ship with a soft jacket included, it is no where to be seen. Stylus apparently will not work with
this unit. Seems to have problem with orienting the screen,
it will just switch from portrait to landscape for no apparent

Other Thoughts: How do I go about getting my soft jacket I am supposed to have.

Manufacturer Response:

Thanks for your review of the PS47. To obtain the sleeve, please contact Velocity Micro's customer care team at 800-296-4312. They will send one out to you at no charge.

4 out of 5 eggsCurrent Evaluation

Pros: Ready to use right out of the box
Customer Service are real American people
Simple to understand

Cons: The one big problem I have found is a lack of available accessories in the market place. Only found one company that makes a screen protector specifically for this model. Also found no company that made a special case for this model. I do not know why because Velocities other products do have many accessories in the after market.

Other Thoughts: I have no technical ability. Never held a smartphone or tablet in my life. Saw this model and the price was so incredibly low and the write-ups so good, I decided it was time to move up to the 21 century. Got it in 3 days and it was ready to use right out of the box. I read instructions first. I also called Velocity to get a case that is shown in the accessories that came with the tablet but did not. They registered me and promised to send out the case as soon as possible. Customer service was very nice.
As I use it to check out different things, I am learning about interactive screens. I have big fingers and the keyboard is somewhat tiny so typing is a bit slow with lots of repeats. I like the idea that I can run it with the charger because that way I can save to battery for being away from any outlet. I look forward to many hours of entertainment and education once I am able to manipulate this tablet more successfully. How long that will take, I have no idea. I am a 20th century man

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Support

Pros: Great phone/email support from Velocity. They contacted me by phone to help me with the cons listed below. Does all basic tasks fairly like email / web browsing.

Cons: Out of the box it needed support due to old app versions of iheartradio and the security app.

Other Thoughts: I do not understand Google's decision to not allow all tablets to access Google Play . Why do I need to get Android apps from third party sites? However that decision is on Google not the tablet manufacturer.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Tablet

Pros: I was able to get a full refund.

Cons: Came DoA, when I called the seller to return it they didn't even want me to send it back; I guess they knew they had a bad product and just wanted to get rid of it. What little we could get this to work showed it had an extremely low response time and to access the Android Marketplace you have to find a way to do it yourself, basically rooting it in the process.

Other Thoughts: I didn't buy it from Newegg and I paid less than the price here. If you really want a tablet but don't want to pay full price, find a refurbished one like the Kindle Fire.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry that you were not satisfied with your PS47 purchase. All new Cruz units come with a 1 year parts and labor warranty, so we are always willing to replace and/or repair defective units. We'll be happy to assist you with that process by calling 800-296-4312.

Per the description, the PS47 comes pre-installed with the Amazon Appstore for Android for downloading and installing applications directly to the device.
