5 out of 5 eggsI don't useally write reviews but...

Pros: I'll admit that i am usually not one to write reviews, i consider myself to be quite the lurker (the Narwhal bacons at midnight btw) But i was so impressed with Archos support that i thought i would return the favor.

When my tablet's screen leaked from an unknown impact. and i learned that my tablet was still under warranty, i immediately sent my tablet in for repairs. In less than a week after i sent my tablet in, i received a brand new tablet. i am very impressed with that kind of service. I will buy Archos again.

This software on the product is fairly standard and has improved with firmware and software updates.

Cons: Although this tablet was a bit sluggish in its first generation subsequent generations fixed this problem with an upgraded processor.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's not suppose to be an Ipad

Pros: Great Battery life. Jumps on known WIFI networks without interaction.

Cons: (No Netflix) Other than choppy upgrade last time, nothing really...

Other Thoughts: Games are played and enjoyed by my kids. Accelerometer is decent, as comparing to Sprint EVO, another Android product. Music sounds great, pictures and video look like the unit took them.

I purchased the unit so I can play games while at the gym (don't laugh). But it has become the ebook reader for my kids, music player for my husband and a real member of the family. Great purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsArcho 10.1

Pros: Great resolution, Easy to use.

Cons: Limited Apps, does Not support Google Marketplace apparently unit is not Google certified (need to install unauthorized program to work around this). The LCD screen just broke after 5 weeks of owning. Tablet is now useless and Archos doesn't cover Screen and wants more than $200 to repair. Wouldn't recommend this product.

2 out of 5 eggsUPdate on my 4/19/11 Review

Pros: I reported before: Lightweight, does easily connect and surf via the browser, and there are a lot of Android apps available. Easy to customize and personalize. This can be a fun device to have around if you're not looking for "Everything to replace your PC" as the product specs claim.

I would like to add: the battery life seems to be very good. My cell phone dies MUCH faster than my Archos does. And it is easy to use. My kids enjoy playing games on it.

Cons: I reported on 4/19/11:...the onscreen keyboard is horrific. I could not connect a USB or bluetooth keyboard, or a usb mouse, and I could not tether any cell phone by bluetooth or by USB. And video chatting? Not with Skype or Oovoo--I have yet to find a video chat program that works with this tablet. The manual is not helpful, and the website doesn't give you much more in the way of support. I discovered through online forums that the USB is often faulty on these tablets, so now I'm RMAing. Disappointing, since it was brand new and did not work properly from the beginning.

After the RMA, I had the tablet back for a few weeks and it seemed to be working well. My USB keyboard worked and I actually connected via bluetooth to my printer. It lasted maybe 3 weeks, and then the USB just died again. I tried to troubleshoot, then I contacted Archos again. They didn't even attempt to troubleshoot. So, RMAing AGAIN!

Other Thoughts: Again, customer service is pretty responsive. They didn't require much of me this time, just sent an RMA# immediately. I don't have the system rooted, and I didn't install anything super technical or shady. Just games and some productivity apps. I'm getting VERY tired of reinstalling these apps just to get the tablet that I want!

If something amazing happens on this go-round, I'll come back and add positives. But if you don't hear from me again, know that I'm not a happy Archos user.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter than nothing but no iPad

Pros: Light, portable, good battery life, seems durable, provides a solid tablet experience for a new tablet user, relatively easy to use, relatively user friendly, nice screen size, a lot of apps, Flash is available, less expensive option compared to the iPad, decent documentation, ...

Cons: Terrible resolution for hi-def material, finicky although decent and functional touch screen, NO Netflix, lack of polish on the operating system, doesn't come with a case or an HDMI cable ...

Other Thoughts: A few months after I bought this functional but otherwise plain tablet, my wife brought home an iPad. Overnight, any enthusiasm I had for the Archos vanished. I thought the idea of not being able to watch Flash on the iPad was intolerable, but it was paralleled by the experience of not being able to watch Netflix on the Archos. The screen size is nice but the resolution, especially side by side with the iPad on the same video clip, is a bummer. The iPad is expensive to me, which I don't like, but I find myself thinking thoughts of mediocrity: "I get what I paid for", "it's functional", "at least it surfs the web well", etc. And yet I'm jealous of my kid watching Netflix movies in "dazzling" and "gorgeous" resolution. Maybe there are equally frustrating issues with the iPad, but I'm going to need more reasons not to buy one next time around.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Tablet

Pros: its lighter than the ipad ..if you want to compare.. its not the ipad..the price of the ipad 1 has gone as low as 300 bucks so do your homework..they did say 2011 was going to be the yr of the tablets...there is a tablet for every one out there..Archos has kept their promise of providing their updates..as like in the pass they sucked. How ever it does the job..the screen could be a little more sensative and smooth like the pad ,but I bought this when it 1st came out..like i said they are both in the same $$ price range How ever there are more ANDROID MARKETs out there like SAM YAAM and a bunch more..so if theres an app..YOU WILL FIND it unlike ipad that only has their market place..Ive been with Android for a long time my cell is also an android moto x....which i can bluetooth it to the tablet as well as hotspot ..so its awesome,,DROID

Cons: the screen is bogus its not bigger than Ipad..yes its ten inch but side by side its an emberassment for Archos..All the hipe they should of done their homework ,,unlike the 7" looks like it belongs in the tablet family,,,weird

Other Thoughts: the battery last for along time ...its a great tablet i wouldnt trade it for an Ipad since I hate APPLE ..they are over priced and just a status symble..we as consumers have fallen in their trap..They only have their market place so to make STEVE a millionaire while Android even thou is GOOGLE they allow other developers to exist in the market world providing us with multiple market places and millions of apps,,

1 out of 5 eggsNo Ipad

Pros: Ok when it worked. But lacks the smoothness that the Ipad screen has even though it is a capacitive touchscreen

Cons: Failed after 2 months. No power up. Had to be sent back to factory. Only used a few times before it took a dump. A few people have experienced this on the web chatrooms.

Other Thoughts: Continious firmware updates the few times i used it. Rushed to market before it was properly functioning.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent, but needs TLC

Pros: Lightweight, thin, multiple ports, bright screen, supports many video formats, no data plan, long battery life, built-in support stand, great value

Cons: Flaky, prone to reboots, rooting voids warranty, can't put in more system RAM, mixed to poor with streaming content. Firmware update app always runs but doesn't see latest firmware available.

Other Thoughts: In general I like this. If you're technically proficient and travel a lot, you'll get great value out of this. I've hooked it up to e-mail at work, have my photo portfolio on it, ripped some videos and workout shows for the road, and found it a nice way to have a color Kindle (my main motivation).

While I find myself reading a book, checking mail, and listening to music, it does take some patience to get this set up. Some things like Skype just won't work. You'll want a task manager, and putting on a terminal emulator will bring out your inner geek. But not being able to root it legitimately poses problems, and if I'd done it then I would have voided the warranty.

Unfortunately, one of my USB ports stopped working and I had to RMA it for a repair--good reason to leave it unrooted. Tech support is kind and helpful.

Short story: it's fun and useful, but you'll find it takes some tinkering to get it just right.

2 out of 5 eggsA Lot of Hype

Pros: Lightweight, does easily connect and surf via the browser, and there are a lot of Android apps available. Easy to customize and personalize. This can be a fun device to have around if you're not looking for "Everything to replace your PC" as the product specs claim.

Cons: So far, nothing that I bought this tablet for for has panned out. I d/l'd an office product so I could use it for word processing, but the onscreen keyboard is horrific.

Other Thoughts: I did contact the Archos tech support and they were responsive and helpful. RMAing this unit to the manufacturer, and I'll update this review if I get it back with a fully functional USB. Hoping that nothing else peters out in the meantime.
Also--you may want to do your homework before buying. Certain apps require "root" access--for advanced users.
And, read up to make sure your phone will pair with the Archos. My Palm Pre2 didn't, but I learned from my research that the two devices are not compatible. There are quite a few phones that are not compatible.
