1 out of 5 eggsBad product

Pros: I have no pros, not able to use it yet

Cons: I bought it last year and the usb metal plug inside the device got lose and fell inside the device, I sent it for repair and was sent back to me without being fixed. It is very disappointing. I regret spending my money and not being able to use it, is sitting in the closet.

4 out of 5 eggsBought for my mom

Pros: I bought it as a christmas gift for my mother, and she loves it.

It works like a charm and was relatively cheap.

Cons: I am a bit disappointed in the apps preloaded, the provided app to access the android market didn't work, which meant I had to get her a different appstore.

Other Thoughts: Get a new appstore app and you're good to go.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it, at half the price.

Pros: It was cheap when I bought it.

Cons: Speaker blew within the first month of having it.
Customer service is horrible.
crashes randomly for no known reason.

Other Thoughts: Biggest problem is the customer non service. The first return resulted in them sending me a refurbished unity with dead pixels and scratches. Sent back, they returned the same unit and said it was fine, even though it wasn't my original unit and even though their claim at the time was that they would replace units with more than 3 dead pixels... mine had 5 in a little clump... returned it again and got the same unit once again.. still not mine and still with dead pixels and scratches... only after contacting the BBB did they actually exchange the unit for one that was actually new and without dead pixels.

Now that unit doesn't actually work well it crashes randomly and is really quite worthless.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: *Flat and light - fits in my jeans back pocket
*no Objective C running on this thing

Cons: *Had to install ArcTools to get the Android market working (no rooting necessary) - Archos market was not legitimate for me
*No Hulu support as of yet, and its not really worth my time to hack it
*Its the outdated Android
*HDMI initial connection was flaky during the short time I tried it out, but it could be the Visio TV

Other Thoughts: More of a toy than a computer
I will use it like an eReader
It looks like a big cell phone
I probably won't use it that much, but time will tell
If you want a tablet computer the Acer Iconia W500 is a bargain

5 out of 5 eggsI got what I paid for

Pros: - Inexpensive Android 2.2 tablet
- Very responsive
- Plays Flash/Netflix though you may need to kill some background processes/free some ram to optimize performance
- Excellent e-reader--Aldiko app has hundreds of free classics and Gutenberg Project/Internet Archive (and alike) have thousands of free worthy eBooks/PDFs
- Very light--less than half a pound, not having to hold and read stuff on an iPad while walking around on campus
- Fits in one palm

Cons: - Only Bluetooth GPS--not all Bluetooth GPS devices are compatible
- Small ram (256mb) but you can work with it and be smart using App Killer or Advanced Task Killer (free on Market)
- No Market pre-installed but an easy-fix by downloading the apk file
- Flash quality may not always be the best, but it's enough to see and enjoy.
- Not all game apps work on this tablet so research the compatibilities (not a huge loss for me when I'm more interested in its emulator capabilities which btw PSX/SNES work perfectly--look up PhoneJoy if you want a custom-made bluetooth dual analog stick controller)

Other Thoughts: First of all, I encourage you to think about what you WANT out of a tablet. Do some research and watch some youtube product reviews. Don't just settle for a tablet with nice tag or go for 'immediate results.'

Although I plan to buy an iPad3, I wanted a tablet that just 'does the job'--lightweight, not having to carry my books around the university, no need for 3G when I'm often on campus with free wifi, access to thousands of free books pretty much justifies the price, not having to worry as much (if it were a nicer tablet) about leaving it in the car or getting it damaged.

There's been some complaints on Droid forums and alike about the Archos 70 tablet losing performance. In most cases, the issue is the RAM but usually managed by killing the background processes using App Killer/Advanced Task Killer (you can close the background processes using System Monitor, but they'll eventually open themselves again--the issue is the Android, not the Tablet)

Small issues but manageable

4 out of 5 eggsWYSIWYG

Pros: Affordable and functional. It does everything that I ask it to do - including entertaining a 2 year old while he watches movies of himself.

The battery life is good as long as you do not leave the screen on indefinably. I will get ~ 8 hours out of the battery before hitting 15% (streaming online radio while at work).

It will play flash (though it is not optimized for the hardware) and has gotten alot of use.

The build in Music and Video player are descent - the new Google Music app is very nice and does work on the Archos after the latest firmware update (August 2011).

Cons: No optimized flash. (You can install Flash 10.3 from market place).
No native Google Marketplace (it can be installed via APK and works fine).
No GPS.
256 RAM is a little limited.
Runs Froyo - not expected to go to Gingerbread or Honeycomb.

Other Thoughts: I have been very happy with this product - alot of good feedback on forum.archosfans.com

Would I but this again? Yes - if it was 2010 again. Currently there are too many descent HoneyComb tablets (though they are ~ double this price).

Would list this at a con, but its not limited to the Archos device - though there is a somewhat small partition for apps, but you can move a majority to the internal storage and can work around the issue.

Still happy with the device. Once the warranty has expired and I have replaced the device with a HC tablet, I plan on installing the SKD and Urukdroid.

Additionally, find yourself a better laucher than stock, like the Zeam launcher or VTL and it works quite well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet

Pros: Screen is clear and responsive. Perfect size to carry around with me. Connects with my wireless router without any issues. If you download the arctools from Archos you can access the android market. I haven't had any software issues. It recently had a firmware update and the one issue I had with the tablet waking up from sleep mode has been resolved. My wife has an Acer Iconia and I love this little tablet as much as she does hers- for a lot less money!

Cons: Can't install all android apps due to proprietary trademarks. Can't charge through microusb, but you can get a USB charger cheap on line.

Other Thoughts: I researched a lot before I bought this tablet, and it has exceeded my expectations. I definitely would recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggsA good inexpensive tablet

Pros: -Great looking screen
-Capacitive Touch (most in this price range have the older -resistive touch screen which is not as good).
-Pinch Zoom (multi-touch)
-Regular Updates
-Running Android 2.3 with Firmware Update
-Has it's own app store with an okay selection
-Good battery life
-Excellent default software is installed for a great multimedia experience.
-Supports a wide range of audio and video formats
-Excellent support
-The Archos fan forum is just awesome, and you can do so much more with this than you would ever expect.
- HDMI out is a really neat feature.
- Has bluetooth so you can connect keyboard and mouse and GPS if you want
- Cell phone tethering is available which is a really nice feature.
- You can get the full android market for this tablet on the Archos fan forums
- Will run Netflix, which you can get from the forums too. You will just have to side load the app and then run it to install it.
- Flash will run on this tablet

Cons: - Mine came with 256MB of memory. They should have put 512MB in it at release. 256MB is just not enough.
- Not a lot of system storage. You don't get the full 8GB for app storage so you will run out of room. Some games need more than Archos provides. I had a hard time getting Plants vs Zombies running because of the small partition size allocated to Android OS.
- No GPS (you have to get a bluetooth GPS from another company and hope it works).
- HDMI out is cool, but needs work in the way it is implemented.
- Tends to run slow if you have several apps running due to the low amount of RAM available (only 256MB)
- Flash is pretty slow on a lot of website, and really bogs down the processor.
- 7" screen is fine, but I highly recommend going with a 10" screen. 7" can feel cramped and small at times.

Other Thoughts: Basically, this thing performs like a cheap netbook (not very fast, but fast enough to do most basic things). In Novembers of 2010 there was not a lot of other options for me to choose from, so I was happy with it. I'm not unhappy with it now, but I want something better. It's good for sitting back and reading, watching some youtube videos, Netflix (though for some reason not all titles on Netflix play correctly), and doing some light internet browsing. I've had quite a bit of fun with my Archos just playing around with it, but I cannot recommend buying one at this point because there is going to be much better options available in fall of 2011 (so why waste the money?). You CAN get the full Android market on this device and Netflix, just visit the Archos fan forum on how to do it.

Pros: Light yet solid. Good screen and easy to access content. Great price.

Cons: Takes a bit of prodding to connect to my Wi-fi, although, once connected, it is rock solid.
