1 out of 5 eggsBad Support

Pros: Good tablet . Does everything we need. My wife and I each bought a tablet and were very happy with the utility.

Cons: We have a small computer repair business and if we upheld our warranty and customer support as Archos has we would be out of business. Two months ago my wife's tablet was sent in for an RMA approved by Archos. To date we have not received a replacement and every time we call for a status we get a different story.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend Archos to any one based upon their poor warranty and customer support. If the tablet doesn't break it's great. If it breaks you're out of luck.

1 out of 5 eggsArchos RMA process

Pros: I loved the tablet while I had it. It was the best thing going.

Cons: pins in the usb port curled and I couldn't charge it anymore. Contacted Archos about it and they said to send it in for a replacement with a 13 day turn around. On February 11, 2013 they received this tablet and today is April 10, 2013 and I have yet to receive my replacement. Was told that they no longer make the 16 Gig and I would get an upgrade to a 250. On March 27, 2013 was told they had just received a shipment and the warehouse manager would pull one, test it and ship it out. Today I'm told they don't have any to send me and would look into upgrading me and when I told the L1 that I was already promised this he didn't know what to say and said that he would have a manager call me back to see what we can do. I know what we can do. I just want my tablet back.

Other Thoughts: I am not complaining about NewEgg I love them for all my parts needs. I will never recommend an Archos tablet to another person if this is what happens when you need repairs.

5 out of 5 eggsI love my Archos!

Pros: Large screen. Clear text. Nice brightness. Love the kickstand. Touchscreen is responsive and accurate. Voice recorder works well. Wifi connection is stable. Build feels pretty sturdy.

Good 3rd party software support - if you know what I mean.

Cons: I don't like the SD card slot placement.

The camera's pretty low quality - but its specs are listed, so that's no surprise.

Until the most recent firmware update (4.0.7), the audio would go out after a while, if it was turned up high.

With all firmware versions, my browser force closes - but there are lots of alternate browser apps in the market, so that's no big deal.

Other Thoughts: I've owned several Archos devices - the 605wifi, the 70, the Arnova, the little mp3 player, and now the 80G9.

I've dealt with Archos' customer support a few times - and while I wouldn't call their support the best, it's certainly not the worst. They respond quickly, and they helped me return a defective unit for a refund with no hassle.

2 out of 5 eggsRe-Re-Reviewed

Pros: GPS, HDMI, Speed, frequent firmware updates

Cons: GPS requires free app like GPS Test to clear it out and get it working again. WiFi internal antenna must have been disconnected as it will no longer find hot spots unless it is within 5 feet of them. So, in the end, the build quality was an issue.

5 out of 5 eggsArcos 80 Android Tablet

Pros: Screen size and view are nice, Android 3.2 is simple enjoyable, music playback is great. I bought this for Wife and She loves all it can do... Music, Browsing Web, Email, Music playback, Games, and loads of apps...

Cons: No major flaws, maybe camera...

Other Thoughts: Buy a good case, I have repaired laptops for 10 years and people wont protect many with a 30 dollar case. This is not a toy nor should it be give to children... Arcos is a very good company and makes quality products...

5 out of 5 eggsRe-reviewed

Pros: Ok. I wrote a review earlier and have had the tablet a month longer and I'm sold. There is an update to the firmware now available to take it to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But beyond that the GPS does work but its flaky in a different way then I thought. Its not that it doesn't get a good signal, its that most of the software occasionally loses a connection to the GPS hardware. If you turn off and on GPS it picks it back up and your back in business, annoying, but a small price to pay to not need a separate GPS. Video conferencing does work but only on Google+ so far. I believe in time the software will allow video conferencing on this unit no problem through several avenues.

Cons: The apps that bomb seem to be the less then professional apps from the android market. The power and volume are in strange spots. And the build quality of the CASE is poor. but inside the soft plastic is a really solid metal case that houses all the real parts to the unit. I bought a fake leather case for this unit for $12 and now I don't even notice that the buttons are in odd places because the case adds some padding so my fingers don't hit them anymore. This also relieves the issue of the soft plastic case. After its in a case it becomes more solid feeling and the build quality is less of an issue. You can concentrate on the nice specs and enjoy them.

Other Thoughts: Buy with confidence. Best unit for $300 you will find. Buy a case designed for it and you will be happy.

4 out of 5 eggsI Wonder

Pros: I like the way it feels. It runs android so already better then apple,, The camera in my opinion is irrelevant,,, i mean i barely have use for the camera on my phone, let alone a small VGA cam on the front of a tablet,, i like the Kick stand that all archos products usually have,,

Cons: right out of the box the charger instead of delivering a steady supply of power,,, it is turning on and off every half second,,, this in turn drains the battery instead of charging it,, i had to resort to using my phone charger, which stayed steady and was able to charge the unit,,, that is the reason it looses a star,,, i had it on the table and cat played with power cable and knocked it to the floor,, i got lucky,, the screen has a slight soft spot where if hand is placed on back of tablet screen blushes a bit, but not too noticeable,, Web Browser freezes temporarily and takes time to load the first time, even after firmware update web browser seems self aware 8) lol just joking,,, when plugging into computer it does not show option to mount USB not sure if its Honeycomb or something with hardware interface inside the tablet,,,

Other Thoughts: the microsd slot is right under usb cable making hotswap while usb is plugged impossible, but i don't really care, volume switch is easily bumped buy palm if trying to hold with right hand, of course you can just turn the tablet around to solve this the screen rotates people,, as most android things do,,, :) people tend to hold it where the phrase Archos | 8o G9 label is phasing upright,,, overall i had my doubts but i am satisfied with this device, i also know of archos's costumer support issues, this is why i fix things myself if i can or just cut my losses if completely shot, but it depends on who you are,,

1 out of 5 eggsNever again

Pros: Decent Specs. Great for video.

Cons: Archos is the kind of company that values you as a customer until you need their help. My warning is this; don't get burned by poor business ethics, stay away from archos! There are also plenty or great companies out there making products that far exceed the standards of this unit. My suggestion: buy apple and jail break it. :p

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet, Needs more advertising.

Pros: 1. Lightweight
2. Decent Battery Life
3. Responsive
4. Fair amount of updates from archos, to keep the unit prime
5. Good compatibility with Most Android market programs

Cons: 1. Volume Button and camera location are in kind of weird places
2. 3G stick not available yet in the USA
3. Boot time seems a little slow, but once it is started WATCH OUT (very fast unit)

Other Thoughts: Sadly overlooked by tablet buyers in the US, but not to be under estimated. Great Tablet, Great Company. Thank You Archos and keep up the Great Work... :)

3 out of 5 eggsSome good, some bad

Pros: Price. Really, for android tablets price is the whole point almost right now. Sold by Newegg. There's a lot packed in there, it does everything listed in the product description, but some items it does poorly. Google apps all work well. File browser is able to pick up my PC's network share easily. Bluetooth streams to blue tooth speakers just fine. Full Android Market of apps. Fast browsing. Archos support in the US on chat was not bad at all.

Cons: People like to talk about build quality. I've held a Kindle or an IPad. They seems rock solid compared to this tablet. It feels fragile like I need to treat it with kid gloves.
The GPS barely works. I bet it gets a signal less then 10% of the time. If it is on a network mapping apps will work wonderfully, if it relies on the GPS for your location, it does not.
More importantly, the product is listed as being able to video conference. It can speak google talk from android to android and google+ from android to PC barely and inconsistently. Skype and Tango do not work at all for video conferencing.
The mic and camera can get in an unrecoverable state rather easily and require a reboot.
Charging is awkward in that it barely charges over a standard usb connection. It requires a wall outlet to truly charge.
YouTube has its own app instead of playing through the browser. I do not know if that is normal for android or if I need a flash plugin

Other Thoughts: If anybody has a clue how to make the GPS worth using please share.
