1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: None that I can think of.

Cons: I bought this in Spring 2010. By Spring 2011 it broke. I am not sure how. It was in a suit case and perhaps got delicately squashed. I had a plate in there too that didn't break. A few months after I bought it the Kindle went down in price and now they are even cheaper. I haven't used Kindles or the other e-readers but from what I see they will give you a better bang for the buck. The screen fonts flickered on my Ectaco. The operation was very sluggish. The font sizes are shoddily calibrated--for ex., big fonts have too much spacing between the lines. The dictionary, for example was useless. Any word that someone with a 5th grade education wouldn't know was not in it.

Other Thoughts: Terrible piece of c&*p and waste of $120. You will be disappointed even if it cost thirty bucks. I repeat: Do Not Buy.

5 out of 5 eggs"Nifty"

Pros: Good little e-book reader, screen looks like paper (no glare), no back light so no eye strain, uses AA batteries (regular batteries last quite a while but if you use some lithium batteries... wow) and the battery encasement acts as a grip. Overall very satisfied, especially because I got it on a shell shocker deal. :)

Cons: Bottom little silver buttons used to turn page feel cheap but I have been using them on and off for about 6 months now and they still work fine... Not enough to knock an egg though. :)

Other Thoughts: Buy it, you won't regret it. This little guy is on par if not better than some of the more expensive brands... Again Newegg exceeded my expectations.

5 out of 5 eggsA Solid Reader

Pros: Generic AA batteries - universally available. Screen is easy on the eyes in lamplight or bright sunlight. Unlimited library size with SD cards. Device is light and easy to hold. Multi-format support and DRM friendly (library borrowing ability) makes the jetbook all you need. Good price (altho some name brands pricing is nearing the price).

Cons: Don't use the reader to transfer books to your SD card. Pop out the SD card, plug it into your computer usb (cheap card readers run $1), drag and drop your book onto the SD card, and pop it back into your jetBook-Lite. It takes a long while for the jetBook-lite to reinitialize its new library.

Other Thoughts: The reader was quirky until the last firmware upgrade; it's much more stable now and the DRM support works great with my local lending library. I've read dozens of books on this reader and really enjoy the jetBook-Lite experience.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect . . .

Pros: I am extremely happy with this purchase. I have also owned a Nook before but find the overall experience of this reader to be much better.

*The form factor is perfect for holding with either one hand or two.
*Very light. Can easily be held for extended periods of time.
*Screen is fantastic for reading. I was concerned about it being a LCD as opposed to e-ink, but they have done a wonderful job mimicking the e-ink screens.
*The slider for page turning is great. Very easy to use and very responsive.
*Navigating using the number buttons down the right side makes things very easy.
*Easy to bookmark, search within pages, and look up words in the dictionary without leaving the book you are reading.
*I have had no problems with glare or direct light.
*No charger, just replace the batteries.

Cons: While they did a fantastic job with the screen readability, the closer you hold the screen to your face, the worse the fonts become. They get slightly jagged and blurry. So if your eyesight isn't the greatest and you have to hold it very close, you may notice this.

The "up" arrow on the navigation pad really needs a firm press to accept input. The other arrows don't seem to have this problem.

The dictionary is a bit limited. Testing it out a few times it returned the closest thing (spelling wise) to the word I was searching for, which was not often a good match.

And those are the only things I have found to pick at.

Other Thoughts: A couple of points:

First, I don't care about wireless functionality. If the device was tied to a specific bookstore, it might be an issue. But it isn't, so I did not list it as a pro or a con.

Secondly, it is possible to put kindle books from ama$on on the reader, but it is not a simple drag and drop process. It takes some work. Google unswindle.py to find out more. I have done it myself, so I know it does work.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Was nice price...

Cons: Unit would not go past main screen. Could not enter setup on unit or shut off unit without removing batteries. Was problematic being seen by Win7 Pro PC and driver failed. Tried new set of tested batteries but no change. Manufacturer web site was no help for drivers or manual.

5 out of 5 eggsNon Prorietary (Battery-Wise)

Pros: Non-Proprietary Battery, Long Lasting, Reads *.hlp files.

Cons: Doesn't come with a screen protector.

Other Thoughts: It reads all the type of files that I have a need to read. The one apes of it that I love the most is that it runs alone on AA batteries, thus it is non-proprietary when it comes to batteries. It reads *.hlp files, which is what I use for reading books. It fits in my universal e-Read case I have.

4 out of 5 eggsEctaco Jetbook Lite

Pros: Ready to read out of the box. Has internal manual, but is almost self-explanatory. Has more versatility than the much higher priced much advertised brands, in that it reads more formats, or formats can be read after conversion. Easier to see and read than Kindle. Smaller, fits in purse to go anywhere. Has all the usable features of the high priced.

Cons: Only con I really have is that it doesn't "read" audiobook format, but for $89. Oh well.

Other Thoughts: At first, I was wanting a "color" reader and one that would read audiobooks as well as ebooks. As for the color, the black and white (or grays) are actually very soothing, not " busy" If you really want a computer, pay for one. If you really want a dedicated versatile ereader, this is the best I've seen at an affordable price!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat E-Reader

Pros: Multi-format e-reader at a great price. Have read 7 or 8 books in the 2 weeks I have had this and it works great.

Cons: Have had no issues once I realized not to try to load books to the SD card in the e-reader. It's not a really bad thing but a little annoying sometimes.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: User friendly. Comfortable to hold. Accepts various file formats--including those from the Public Library, Pdf files and Nook books from Barnes and Noble. Accepts SD cards for tons of storage of books. Takes regular batteries or rechargeables. No glare on the screen. Quick page turns. Comes preloaded with lots of classics. Love the size. it fits easily in my purse. BTW, Ectaco has a great forum for help with any questions.

Cons: Disappointed that I haven't been able to use Kindle books with DRM on it, even using Calibre (an optional great free software program available online for managing and converting ebooks.)

Other Thoughts: Got this for Valentines Day from my husband. I have loaded 30+ books on it since then. Great "starter" ereader for a novice.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome No-Frills eReader

Pros: Easy to use, quick to update, a joy for reading! I use this for both technical books and recreational reading and so far, I am very impressed with how well books are presented, ease of switching fonts and fast page turns.

Cons: Only one issue, which was my fault but also not well documented. The SD card works best with FAT formatting. FAT32 seems slower and NTFS won't work at all. Haven't tried it with Linux formatting, but I can't imagine it would be an issue. Now that I have the right format, no issues to report.

Other Thoughts: Thank you Ectaco for an affordable eReader that does just that! Thank you NewEgg for another tremendous offer!
