1 out of 5 eggsWorst GPS

Pros: low price

Cons: inaccurate...it's the most important feature of a gps unit!

Other Thoughts: If i actually follow the directions given by this device, it would take me twice as long to get to my destination, if not longer! I pretty much ignore it, as it's so useless!

1 out of 5 eggsif you buy this you ARE the dummy!

Pros: works if you are willing to put as much time inputting your destination and checking the proposed route as you will spend driving to it. will take you places you've never been before and maybe where no other human being has been either. has made me learn to take the hard-won opinions of other reviewers seriously. sound is good. thirty washingtons. free stylus. cleans obsolete hardware out of the warehouse.onboard flash storage is a whopping one gig. software only uses 994 Mb of the memory. views Jpeg files. gets gas station personnel back in the game of giving directions.good backup for a dirty old free roadmap.

Cons: maps are dated 2008. map updates are NOT available on micro sd by mail at 36 dollars a shot on the maylong website. you cannot return this to newegg for your munny back. qwerty input is slow and misses letters typed so you have to start all over.seems to have the same processing power as a commodore 64. will not play recognized mp3 or WMA files. poor visibility in sunlight.

Other Thoughts: my own hometown in Pennsylvania is not listed in the map software and destination choice is made by state, town, address in that order. if i had not remembered what my town USED TO BE called i could not use this to get home from anywhere. if MY town isn't in there then how many others aren't? using a gps involves putting a lot of trust in a machine and i don't trust this thing. given the return policy, maylong and newegg don't want it either

1 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Inexpensive, boots fast, acquires satellites fast. Has an stylus you can use for entry.

Cons: Cheap. Mounting bracket does not have a lock to maintain positioning. Sent first one back after two weeks, blue screen of death (it runs on Windows CE) New one has issues with the power button sticking. Speed limit database warnings have quite a few errors (alerts you when you are exceeding the speed limit, most roads in my area with a posted speed of over 25mph, it reports that I am speeding on). The GPS for dummies guy tries to predict what you are entering in after each letter. You have to wait, sometimes more than a few seconds for him to decide he has no matches, and allows you to continue typing.

Other Thoughts: I have an older Garmin that needs the screen repaired, I should have spent the $30 I paid for this toward the $69 that Garmin wants to repair it.

3 out of 5 eggsAdequate for getting you there

Pros: Cheap, small, it works.
The purpose of a GPS unit is to get you where you need to go, and this unit does the job.

Cons: 1) The car adapter was DOA. I had an old phone adapter that I spliced to get the unit to work.

2) Battery life is poor. If you don't have a lighter plug available, this unit isn't for you.

3) No wall adapter is included. If you want to program it in your house and there isn't much battery life left, you're out of luck.

4) Not as simple or intuitive to use as a "For Dummies" item should be.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.
If you're looking for a basic, cheap unit this is OK - just be aware that you're not getting a 5-inch, bluetooth equipped, real-time-traffic, lifetime map updates unit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth only if replacing s/w

Pros: I got this since I was looking out for a new budget sd card based unit. I got this for $40 so a decent bargain.
I checked the xml files inside and found replacement s/w can run from sd card, so got my tomtom navigator s/w and Im up and running :)

Cons: The built in s/w I found, which appears to be Destinator but with bespoke UI is rubbish, for me that is. It is easy to use but not as friendly as say tomtom. It also seems a little slow in responsiveness when using Destinator.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the price just to buy as itself but worth it if you want a cheap unit to put your own s/w on.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this

Pros: not many

Cons: the maps are very limited and there is no option to download or purchase new maps from the website. It works fine if it can find the address you are looking for which is highly unlikely.

5 out of 5 eggsStunned by the performance for the price

Pros: Works well even for a GPS dummy like me. The manual leaves something to be desired as it doesn't explain everything in depth (nor is there any additional help on their website). However the manual does have just enough to get you started. Overall its simple enough to figure stuff out by a little trial-n-error and the more I use this thing the more I figure out about it. It simply works well.

Cons: Screen washes out in full sun at certain angles fortunately the voice intelligable, however the pronounciation of some words are really funny (example: "U.S. 131" sounds like "mucous 131". The battery doesn't last that long and the manual says its not replaceable (then they describe the replacement battery for it... confusing to say the least).

Other Thoughts: I've been searching for my first GPS for months. A few times a year I need to visit interns at several locations around the state and thought a GPS might be nice. I've always used printed out Google maps and an detail atlas of the state... its a major pain in the neck.
I always search for products to purchase by reading the worst reviews and looking for a pattern of issues with the product and then deciding for myself if those issues would pose a problem for me. Using that methodology, there are no GPS devices that weren't fraught with many major issues and thus I didn't want to take a chance on any of them. Then this thing came up at 39 bucks shipped and I thought "what the heck, I'll give it a try". Now I can't live without it and would pay even $150 to replace it if I had to. Its a great device and it really works very well for me.
Since this is my first GPS, so please excuse excuse my simplistic review here but based upon my experience, its the best GPS I've ever owned ;)

5 out of 5 eggsWow, it actually works great!

Pros: Nice clear voice, speed alert, plays video, photos, ebooks, clear screen with non-glare glass, touch screen works well

Cons: It was not free (lol)
It could have a few more POI's

Other Thoughts: I have always been a Garmin Nuvi guy but bought this because of the price to give away as a present. I went ahead and ordered 2 when they were on sale in case they were good and they are!

4 out of 5 eggsBought two more

Pros: Small with all accessories included. Replaced my previous LG.At sub $40 immediately after I received checked back with NEWEGG every day and it went back on sale and I snapped up two more for gifts. Hasn't been wrong so far and beats trying to read MAPQUEST directions alone.

Cons: None so far. and I hate to read instruction manuals.

Other Thoughts: Can't go wrong at this price and not refurbished so my CC doubles warranty.
