5 out of 5 eggsIt works just as expected

Pros: It's was affordable and does exactly what we bought it to do.

Cons: Can't updated past IOS 5.1.1

Other Thoughts: It's a 1st gen iPad and works just as it should. Bought it to replace a Kindle Fire and laptop for my wife to read books, watch videos, facebook, websurf and monitor our finances. It does everything she needs it to do.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome since 4/10

Pros: Still flawless after 28 months of use. Long battery life. Still runs the latest iOS. GREAT Price.

Cons: None whatsoever. This is a solid machine. The Elder Tech truly is a d bag.

Other Thoughts: When iPad ordering opened 45 minutes earlier than Apple said it would on March 12th of 2010, I placed my order and a month later received one of the very first 3G iPads to ship. Even though I have travelled extensively both domestically and internationally with it, it has never failed to perform. It is a truly rugged and robust product. With AppleCare + tax, I think I spent almost $900 for it back in the day. Worth every penny.

2 out of 5 eggsKind of a gamble

Pros: Good price. Newegg does the right thing when you get a bad unit(or four).

Cons: I ordered eight of these "refurbished" iPads. Out of the eight, two were completely dead, and two would not boot. Two of them were in working condition, but not refurbished, as they still had people's very personal information on them. One had a photo of a lady nursing her baby, which was probably supposed to be private, and both had a bunch of personal emails. I wasn't trying to look at this stuff, I just came across it because I wanted to thoroughly inspect each item since the first few I checked were bricks. Luckily it isn't too hard to wipe these devices. However, this really should have been done in the refurbishing process. Only two were in what is generally accepted as refurbished condition. I expected that these would not be in new condition, but they should at least work, and not have private data on them. It looks like these are just returns that are being physically cleaned, re-boxed, and resold without any sort of testing.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is doing the right thing and replacing the defective units, but I'm just a little upset about wasted time. Shame on whoever was responsible for refurbishing these. Apple??? I want to give two and a half eggs, since half of the shipment I got was bad, but I'm giving two eggs since I'm only allowed whole numbers. I would not be afraid to order one of these, since Newegg stands behind everything they sell, just be prepared to possibly deal with the RMA hassle.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Elder Tech is a d bag

Pros: It's Apple. It is affordable and has a lot of storage for a small budget and big need factor. These are amazing, although yes there are newer models, this has 3x the memory of the base unit of the new ones for a little bit cheaper. 3g capable with monthly plans.

And Elder Tech, gtfo. You are so pathetic it is not even funny. Why u so mad? You mad u can't afford this so you have to hate on it? What a tool for 1 star rating it, people obviously know it is the old one and can't do as many things as the newer models. Is that your "elder tech" knowledge to be able to point out the obvious? Next time you review how about you come up with something decent and smart to say instead of bashing it because you can't get one.

Cons: It is older, it is a refurbished model. It has no face time on it.

Other Thoughts: Elder Tech is a tool and don't listen to his pathetic review. If you need a lot of memory and can't afford $800+ for the new ones, then get this one. This is half the price for slightly less features but 4x the memory and it is 3g capable.

4 out of 5 eggsRecertified

Pros: It's an iPad.

The price is right. 64GB + 3G for $500 is great.

It's an iPad.

Cons: It came with almost nothing other than the iPad and the power cable.

The power cable itself showed significant wear and I, in fact, had to buy a replacement immediately.

1 out of 5 eggsIpad

Pros: None what so ever

Cons: Apple releases a new one every 12-15 months. Why would anyone put down this amount of money for a toy that is outdated faster than anything else.

Other Thoughts: Will stick with laptops which are more inexpensive, more disposable and they last 3-5 years.... What a racquet...

3 out of 5 eggsFun but less functional

Pros: It's convenient for sitting on the couch watching videos and/or light internet browsing. The unique interface is enjoyed by my kids with games and it's very user friendly. Think of it as a bike with training wheels. I let my 8 year old use this without much concern.

Cons: It doesn't do much heavy lifting in terms of functionality. It's very simple like a cell phone. It's also a bear to type on. There is a slight lag in typing. The touch pad interface is indeed amazing but, as far as words per minute are concerned, it's still much slower and very error prone. I am a quick typer so it's apparent to me. YMMV. There is also the obvious lack of flash support because it's apple. Battery life is ok but not great. Video in particular drains it. The newer Ipads, I hear, are a little better batterywise but not by much.

Other Thoughts: The lack of a camera was not an issue with me at all. But you may need one and this doesn't have it. Overall it's a great toy for my kids but, for now, I still use my laptop for heavier things than looking at videos and messing around on the internet.
