It’s brilliant. In every sense of the word.

Pick up the new iPad and suddenly, it’s clear. You’re actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. To make that hands-on experience even better, we made the fundamental elements of iPad better — the display, the camera, the wireless connection. All of which makes the new, third-generation iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined.

  • newegg Retina Display. See everything like never before. Four times more pixels than iPad 2. Razor-sharp text. Richer colors. The Retina display transforms the entire iPad experience. So everything looks and feels incredibly lifelike and perfectly detailed.
  • newegg Pixel-perfect performance The A5X chip with quad-core graphics drives four times the pixels of iPad 2 yet it delivers the same smoothness and fluidity iPad is known for. Even with all that extra oomph, the new iPad still gets an amazing 10 hours of battery life.
  • newegg The iSight camera. Your memories have never been clearer. The new iPad features Apple’s 5-megapixel iSight camera. Designed with advanced optics, it lets you shoot gorgeous photos and 1080p HD video.
  • newegg Dictation. Talking is the new typing. Write an email. Send a text. Search the web. Or create a note. And do it all with only your voice. Instead of typing, tap the microphone icon on the keyboard. Then say what you want to say while your iPad listens. Tap Done and, just like that, your spoken words become written words. Dictation also works with third-party apps, so you can do things like update your Facebook status or share a thought on your Twitter feed.
  • newegg iCloud. Your content. On all your devices. iCloud stores your music, photos, apps, mail, contacts, calendars, documents, and more and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. So if you buy a song, take a photo, or edit a calendar event on your iPad, iCloud makes sure it appears on your Mac, iPhone, and iPod touch, too. You don’t have to do a thing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet

Pros: It's exactly what you expect from a 3rd generation apple device. Great quality, solid craftsmanship, great performance, nice quality screen.

Cons: It's exactly what you expect from a 3rd generation apple device.

Other Thoughts: It's a great device, don't get me wrong. I've had iPhones, Android phones, iPads, iPods, Android Tablets, Kindles, etc... and I've found over the years, for what I do, I just prefer android devices. That said, if you have an iPhone and love it, get this device, it's great and you won't regret the purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsproductive

Pros: Well it is very productive because i use it maily for school and honestly if you but it with the wireless keyboard it is very roductive.

Cons: it sucks that apple does not have an automactic installation of a usb device either you buy the adapter or send it by email. it can get annoying.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing...

Pros: The Ipad (3rd Generation) is a fantastic machine. As a writer, graphic artist I was pretty used to having to carry around my rather bulky notebook PC, and even then I had to carry a ton of accessories in order to do everything I needed to do. I purchased an Ipad, as several of the companies I used on my old Notebook now made compatible versions for the Ipad (Final Draft, Procreate, Sketchbook Pro). The versitility of this beast is beyond imagination. Even with my protective case, it is still no bigger than a standard college rule notebook. Battery life is fantastic. My Notebook could only get 3 hours max. I get a solid day and a half with my Ipad. Screen rez is just as brilliant as it is on my IPhone 4s. The Retna display looks fantastic, especially when viewing HD movies, such as Prometheus. I can't wait to purchase Avatar.
So in summery... It's versatile, it's small, and it lasts a long time.

Cons: The biggest con with anything Apple, is cost. While there are tons a cheap to free apps, if you really want productivity, you're gonna have to spend the cash. However, Ipad applications are still MUCH cheaper than your standard PC/Mac program.

Other Thoughts: At the end of the day, it's about portability, ease of use, and functionality. The Ipad has all three...in spades. When you add the keyboard functionality of a Zagg Bluetooth Keyboard case ($109.99 on Newegg), and a Wacom Bamboo Stylus (39.99 Best Buy), Final Draft (49.99 or Storyist $9.99), this is a writer/ artist dream come true!

1 out of 5 eggsIpad 3 overpriced

Pros: thin and looks cute

Cons: battery life SUCKS, no free useful Apps, you have do pay big $$$ for a decent app. Proprietary Apple connections, again pay $$$ for extra cables. No SD or microSD.

Other Thoughts: Wish I bought the Asus Transformer Infinity instead. I'm not going to fall for Apple i-craps ever again.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Like others have said, it's pretty. Unfortunately pretty doesn't make me productive.

I know others have mentioned the long charging time for the battery, which I'm not denying, but the battery does last quite a while even when I do run graphics-intensive or CPU-bound applications on it.

Cons: - Everything is proprietary because it's Apple (duh) so you're stuck buying crazy, overpriced equipment if you need any accessories; no using standard equipment you might already have. For example if you want to hook it up to a display or projector you have to buy a dongle which only outputs HDMI so you better hope your display/projector can handle that or you're going to be buying other equipment too.

- No ports (e.g. USB or SD) to allow files in/out of the device unless you use the iTunes interface which I find horribly lacking in ability to customize how I want things organized.

- You can't even download a file using Safari on this. You have to use hacks/workarounds to do something like this.

- There is a severe lack of applications in the base install of iOS. Sure, it has applications for chatting, etc. (read: goofing around) but if you want useful stuff for presentations, or even adding a simple word of text to a picture, you're going to pay (in most cases a LOT) extra.

Other Thoughts: I had to get this for development at work but I've found I use my Android tablet when I really need to do work (i.e. be productive, do useful things). The iPad is mainly for my required development; I've decided it's primarily a game machine and you can see this reflected in the top grossing applications every month.

I will note that the lack of applications is also a problem on Mac OS X, so it's not 100% an iOS issue. I mean, as much as I have joked around about how bad paint programs on other systems are, the Apple products are missing even simple, basic functions like this.

Don't get me wrong, I do use this device. I think there are nice things about it but I find it's just not as useful as other platforms, especially for someone who is very technical.

These are great for people who can barely use devices like cell phones though. That may explain the popularity. :)

3 out of 5 eggsPower issues

Pros: It's an iPad. It is, therefore, elegantly designed and tends to do what it says it will do. Apps tend to perform better than Android apps.

Cons: The battery. Look it up. The NextGen iPads are notoriously slow chargers. Reeeeeeally slow, as in won't have a full charge by morning if you plug it up from 30% at bedtime. What's more, plugging it up from a low battery state won't even keep it going. It's gonna die on you in mid-email, tweet whatever.

Other Thoughts: The battery issue is a real problem. If it was any company but Apple, a general recall would be in order. This issue isn't even necessarily one that strikes because of intense usage. It's just a really crummy battery that takes forever to charge. One gets the idea this was rushed to market.
