It's brilliant. In every sense of the the world.

Pick up the new iPad and suddenly, it’s clear. You’re actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. To make that hands-on experience even better, Apple made the fundamental elements of iPad better — the display, the camera, the wireless connection. All of which makes the new, third-generation iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined.

  • newegg Retina Display. See everything like never before. Four times more pixels than iPad 2. Razor-sharp text. Richer colors. The Retina display transforms the entire iPad experience. So everything looks and feels incredibly lifelike and perfectly detailed.
  • newegg Pixel-perfect performance The A5X chip with quad-core graphics drives four times the pixels of iPad 2 yet it delivers the same smoothness and fluidity iPad is known for. Even with all that extra oomph, the new iPad still gets an amazing 10 hours of battery life.
  • newegg The iSight camera. Your memories have never been clearer. The new iPad features Apple’s 5-megapixel iSight camera. Designed with advanced optics, it lets you shoot gorgeous photos and 1080p HD video.
  • newegg Ultrafast 4G LTE. Full speed ahead. (Wi-Fi + 4G model ) Built with the latest in wireless technology, the new iPad lets you connect to fast data networks around the world — up to 4G LTE. (4G LTE is supported only on AT&T and Verizon networks in the U.S. and on Bell, Rogers, and Telus networks in Canada. Data plans sold separately. See your carrier for details.)
  • newegg Dictation. Talking is the new typing. Write an email. Send a text. Search the web. Or create a note. And do it all with only your voice. Instead of typing, tap the microphone icon on the keyboard. Then say what you want to say while your iPad listens. Tap Done and, just like that, your spoken words become written words. Dictation also works with third-party apps, so you can do things like update your Facebook status or share a thought on your Twitter feed.
  • newegg iCloud. Your content. On all your devices. iCloud stores your music, photos, apps, mail, contacts, calendars, documents, and more and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. So if you buy a song, take a photo, or edit a calendar event on your iPad, iCloud makes sure it appears on your Mac, iPhone, and iPod touch, too. You don’t have to do a thing.

4 out of 5 eggsNot an Apple Fan - Good Product

Pros: Great weight, good functional design (save the glass). Excellent array of services & software, no apparent "lag" due to bloatware.

Cons: Price & service are apple - device costs as much as a laptop with similar performance to tablets costing hundreds less.

Service must be scheduled with certified Apple store, both in my state are over 70 miles away (one is 180+ miles). Obvious problems with this

Other Thoughts: I'm not an apple guy - at all - but I will give my respect and praise to the iPad. If you can afford their cost, they are a great, light device that will have all of yoru friends asking if they can look at it.

The device is comparable in performace to many tablets I have had, and I even have a $200 tablet I prefer, but it is heavier and doesn't have the accessory choices at all. The iPad definitely is the most stylish, lightest and accessory friendly device I handle, and I have had 0 complaints about it and they couildn't be happier.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet

Pros: Great display, super long lasting battery, fast web broswing and super good apps. This device can easily take the place of a laptop. All you have to do is a wireless keyboard keyfolio and a few apps.

Cons: A bit too expensive but rapidly dropping in price. You do get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Unlike the reviewer a few below, I do not wish to haul around a 3 to 6 pound laptop that has a battery that lasts 2 to 5 hours max and has a loud blaring fan that can burn your lap with extended use.The ipad with apps like Cloud On and Notability can easily replace a laptop, and I would much rather haul around a ipad than a laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsiPad 3

Pros: It's an iPad.

Cons: None, It's and iPad.

Other Thoughts: Got for my girlfriend for Christmas. She thought it was some perfume. When she got the wrapping off, she couldn't contain her excitement. She said, "64 gigabytes, I don't know what that is."

5 out of 5 eggsiGoodness

Pros: Unlike some people (who clearly show some bias), I think that the iPad is a great device. I own various Windows, Android, and Apple products and have pretty equal respect for all of them (so in other words, I do not consider myself a "fanboy"). When I bought my iPad I knew what I was getting myself into. First of all the iPad should NOT be treated or viewed as a personal computer replacement. It's a great addition to what you may already have. Secondly, the iPad is a greater piece of tech if you have additional Apple products (that are fairly current) and are able to "sync" with your existing devices. For example, I personally use my iPad for more than just Angry Birds. The new retina display is gorgeous - twice that of 1st and 2nd generation iPads and the majority of Windows and Android tablets currently on the market. I have a nice digital camera, I take a lot of nice pictures, and I put them on my iPad. I can then use the pad as a portable picture device OR stream pictures to my tv.

Cons: The iPad is a delicate device. It really needs some type of case and even then, if you drop it, there is a good chance that you will either "nick" the corner or even crack the glass.

I don't like having to connect to iTunes to transfer my files. I've gotten used to it, but they need to come up with a better way of transferring files.

No SD card memory. Come on, Apple, even your laptops have them now!

Other Thoughts: I have heard some people claim that the battery heats up after hours of use. Personally, I have never experienced this - yet at least.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy a good laptop instead

Pros: It's thin....?

Cons: First, I'd like to say that my opinions are my own and in no way represent an insult to any reader. If my view on the device irks you, it is not my intention.

You can browse the web (when there's service, or if there's WiFi around), that's about it... Apple has made some decent products, of that there's no doubt, but for $829.00 I can buy a laptop with much better hardware (though maybe not from Apple).

An $829 iPad is like the diamond earrings I got my wife: expensive and shinny, got me out of the dog house, but of little other use. I can do more with my $200 phone.

Save your $800-plus and purchase a laptop, or if you absolutely MUST have the shinny Apple device just buy a 1st generation iPad. It will only cost you ~$250 and quickly bring you to the realization that you really don't need an iPad, it was just over-hyped marketing that made you crave the device...

Other Thoughts: I started writing about a positive attribute and then I realized I couldn't finish without laughing and thinking "Wait, that's not a complement..." So I moved that to the "Cons".

Don't spend almost $1,000 on a product when there's a plethora of devices that outperform it.

To paint a better picture: I just got back from a two week vacation; we rented a house in Georgia to prepare for and participate in the cycling nationals. Throughout the time we were in Augusta, AT&T service was terrible (thankfully I had my Android phone (Verizon) around to provide WiFi). And the only thing I used the iPad for was to browse web pages and entertain the kids with Angry Birds.

4G on the iPad is kind of a useless feature unless you're with Verizon. Furthermore, AT&T doesn't even have 4G, they have HSDPA+ (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access is an enhanced 3G protocol, nowhere near 4G). In the end, all of the work (web and picture editing) was done on a 2 year old $800 HP laptop with far better har
