The GPS 18x LVC is an OEM, high-sensitivity GPS receiver for use in automotive, fleet vehicle, and electronics applications that require a small, highly accurate GPS receiver. This high-sensitivity receiver comes with an integrated magnetic base. The puck-like receiver is 2.4 inches in diameter and weighs just a few ounces, making it an ideal solution for applications where space is at a premium.
Great GPS Unit for a time server
This review is from: GARMIN GPS 18x LVC Receiver
Pros: Pulse per second output, great sensitivity, NMEA output, makes a great receiver for a dedicated NTP/PTP time server using gpsd, ntpd, and ptpd.
Cons: You have to solder your own connectors (but so what, right?)
Other Thoughts: This unit makes a great GPS receiver for an inexpensive time server. Put it with a cheap computer running some linux distro and an RS-232 and USB connector and you have a < $200 stratum 1 time server. I put one together for $150.00 using a refurbished Dell GX 280 (75.00) and this GPS receiver (65.00) plus some loose change for an RS-232 connector and a USB cable (for power).
