HP takes aim at small to medium-sized businesses with their ProLiant ML350 G6. It is based on the new Intel 5520 chipset and will accept up to 2 Intel Xeon 5500 series processors with 2 or 4 cores each. To support all the processing power, it pre-installs 4GBs of DDR3 memory and will allow up to 144GB DDR3 Registered or 24GB DDR3 unbuffered system memory to be installed to keep up with your business growth.
The server supports either SAS hard drives for performance or lower cost SATA hard drives for capacity, making storage more reliable, versatile, and affordable than ever. Advanced RAID 0/1/10/5/6 protection takes high availability to HDD efficiency. Integrated dual gigabit Ethernet provides increased network throughput and efficiency. Redundant power helps ensure that the server continues to support your business in the event of a system power error.
The server offers advanced management and cost savings through HP's Onboard Administrator and ICE Management suite. It's tested and certified for virtualization so you'll get the most from your virtualized environment. With the HP ProLiant ML350 G6, you can focus on your business, rather than IT.
Pros: Supports the new dual Xeon "Nehalem" processors. Fast Shipping.
Cons: These are some major major concerns and cons here. HP has released this server in April 2009. Its their latest G6 series server. Now here is the MAJOR concern: - My server came with one processor installed. Now I have purchased 2 faster Xeon processors from Intel and HP doesn't have the Heatsink (part number 499258-001) for the processor, the 92mm Fan Assembly (part number 508110-001), the higher watt power supply 1200W (part number 498152-001), or the DIMM Baffle (part number 512109-001).
I have called HP Parts center and they don't have the parts, they redirected me to a authorized HP parts dealer and they don't have the parts. As a matter of the part numbers I have gotten off their Illustrated parts catalog on the HP website don't even show up on their computers as existing parts.
So basically yes you can buy the server but are stuck with your purchase. No Upgrade possible whatsoever.
Other Thoughts: Now the parts I have listed where the ones I required. I am possibly thinking all the others parts in this server have the same story. I think this is something that needs to be published out there for the unknowing server purchases organizations may be making.
The one egg rating is because of the no upgrade parts available factor. Which I think is really significant. What do you think HP?
