Benefit from the low cost and high capacity storage of the DL180 G6 server. It delivers on a history of design excellence and 2U density for a variety of rack deployments and applications. The ProLiant DL180 G6 Server features the latest Intel Xeon processors, an increased DIMM slot count, small form factor (SFF) drives, up to internal storage capacity, and efficient memory and power supplies. It is a flexible, space-saving solution combining the benefits of a compute node with those of a storage server.
This review is from: HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Rack Server System Intel Xeon E5620 2.4GHz 4C/8T 8GB (2 x 4GB) No Hard Drive Operating System None 590638-001
Pros: RAID controller is fast, comes with battery backup so that write caching can be enabled safely. The controller is smart enough to shut off write caching automatically if the battery is low and turn it back on when the battery is charged back up. There is an spot for a second PSU. Hard drive controller is hot pluggable. Comes with rack mounting hardware that the server can sit on.
Cons: Does not come with a DVD drive. You'll need HP part 481043-B21 (DVD-RW) or 481041-B21 (plain DVD). Or you can just plug in an external USB DVD drive to get things installed initially.
Other Thoughts: Remember that you must buy hard drives for this server. Either direct HP parts or you can buy the _trays_ and the _hard drives_ separately and assemble them yourself. If you want RAID 6 or 6+0, you'll need to buy the license 516471-B21 from HP.
