Pros: This is a great server for your VMware ESXi home lab. The machine is virtually silent, has a fast Intel CPU, supports upto 32G RAM, comes with DVD ROM. Ye I know it says ESXi is not supported but it runs find with a couple of caveats: 1. The onboard NIC is not recognized by ESXi 5.1 so you will need to purchase a couple of NIC cards (single or dual). The onbaord NIC can still be used for the Intel IPMI 2.0/Out-of-Band-Managment functionality. 2. You will need to leave your ESXi boot/install disk in the DVD ROM when you have to reboot ESXi, boot from the DVD and then choose "boot from local disk" from the ESXi DVD. For some reason the machine will not boot directly from the hard drive. You can use any hard drive you want. I have installed a Samsung 830 SSD (128G) as my boot drive and then using iSCSI targets from my Synology DS1513+ (fantastic product) . I think it is a better deal then the new HP microserver based on the CPU in the Lenovo vs the HP system. The out-of-band management works OK it is a bit quirky to setup.
Cons: Would nice if it booted directly from the hard drive for ESXi 5.1but that is not a deal breaker. it only has room for two hard drives. You need to buy some other Intel NIc cards if you want to run VMware ESXi 5.1 since the onboard NIC is not supported.
