5 out of 5 eggsGreat SMB or Home Server

Pros: fast and relatively quiet.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: Great server for the money. I am using it at home to do some home dev project and run a few servers as VM's (web, mail, Minecraft). Works really well and is very stable.

4 out of 5 eggsNice home server

Pros: Energy efficient, very driver friendly - no fighting to find drivers. Extremely quiet and has been reliable! Running a small home business server with a mix of Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro machines. Server platform is Microsoft Server Essentials.

Cons: For the price you would think you would get a little more beef under the hood.

4 out of 5 eggsPicky Server

Pros: Quiet, Easy to Configure and work in.
Esxi 6.0 Worked and detected all hardware including built in NIC.
VCenter 6.0 works without a flaw. Running 5 Servers and 2 Workstations on the system without issue. Fantastic Lab Server just watch out for the NIC issue if you need to add another.
Crucial Memory Worked Perfectly:
Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Server Memory Model CT2KIT102472BD160B

Cons: REALLY picky about NIC's.
The following INTEL NIC WILL NOT WORK! System will fail to post
Intel EXPI9402PTBLK. Costing me over $30 to return and restock. Don't make my mistake ONLY two non-Lenovo cards are on the support list:
Intel E1G44HTBLK Server Adapter I340-T2
Intel E1G44HTBLK Server Adapter I340-T4

Other Thoughts: Ordering either the T2 or the T4 will update with my findings.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing rocks!

Pros: Intel Xeon processor, lots of ram (capable), plenty of space for HDDs and SSDs, FAST for our uses.

Cons: Needs more space for HDD's.

Other Thoughts: We are a small business and needed a backup server to sync all files from our old server to this one. I WISH we had two of these things! It's so fast. Granted, we are not a high-traffic facility, but if you are a small business, this would be a great choice.

We run Linux and put /root and /swap on an SSD and /home on the 3 HDD's in RAID 5. The read/write is plenty fast and we have been very satisfied with it's performance and stability.

I would love to have this thing at my house running as my home media server!!

5 out of 5 eggsBest money I've Spent

Pros: This is the best bang for the buck you'll find. I run a home based web server hosting 25-30 websites and 2 full time minecraft servers all on 24 gigs of ram. Installed a 256gig SSD

I'm running Linux Lite a version based on Debian 8 and run the LAMP stack and a firewall as well as email server. This machine boots in 3 seconds.

I use Image for linux for all my backups

I will be purchasing another one of these servers just to have for future use.
It's very well built and super quiet and runs very cool

If you've got the cash pick one up, maybe pick up a couple. If you need something reliable... this is it

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Linux workstation

Pros: Excellent CPU, quiet, adequate built-in graphics (I'm not a gamer), works perfectly with Linux (Fedora 21 and 22), supports 3 monitors, accepts ECC or non-ECC memory (including mixing). *Excellent* value.

Cons: Optical drive is read-only (DVD-ROM), there are only 2 3.5" bays.

Other Thoughts: I've had this for about 6 months, and I'm *very* happy with it. 4 GB RAM isn't enough for me, so I bought two 8 GB sticks of non-ECC RAM, and I bought a 1 TB Seagate hybrid drive for storage. I couldn't be happier.

I see one of the negative reviews is a warning about the NIC under Linux—I have never had a problem. Maybe the other reviewer is using an Ubuntu LTS or something (i.e., an old kernel with outdated drivers), but with Fedora 21 and 22 it has been highly stable. If you're looking for a good Linux workstation I highly recommend this.

1 out of 5 eggsHardware issues

Pros: Very good specs for the price

Cons: Compatibility issues, horrible customer service

Other Thoughts: Server works fine in single channel mode, when installing Crucial dimms (CT102472BA160B) the server posts and works fine with 1 stick but in dual channel gives 3 short then 1 long beep. There are no memory timing options whatsoever in the BIOS even under the latest revision. Lenovo stonewalled me and said since the memory didn't come from them they wouldn't discuss the issue with me. Spoke with Crucial and was told to buy a 'guaranteed compatible' kit (CT4962898 CT2KIT102472BD160B.000) which had the same problem. Called Lenovo support back and was hung up on by 3 different people after explaining the problem. The 4th tech told me "you probably scared them with your issue" then read through the manual with me on the phone. He said the server didn't support ECC, then said the server didn't support 8gb sticks, then said they wouldn't work in single channel mode, then said the motherboard was probably bad. All in all Lenovo was no help. I would have bought the memory directly from them except that it's about 2.5x the price for an FRU sticker and the honor of not being hung up on. Thankfully NewEgg is willing to step in and offer a replacement / refund when the OEM can't be bothered to support their products. That Premier membership really pays for itself.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome machine

Pros: Quiet little server
Quad-Core Xeon E3
Low Power Consumption

I chose this server since it was best value for money plus, awesome specs and fits my need perfectly. Looks and feels reliable and long lasting. As always, arrived much before newegg promised...

Cons: None I can think of. The only possible drawback is that this server has two 3.5" drive bays and you have to use the empty 5.25" drive bay for the 3rd drive which is what I did.

Other Thoughts: Installed Slackware Linux on it. Will be working as a little NFS server, web server, mail server, imap server, samba server for windows clients and I'll throw something else at it if it can handle it.

I've added 8GB Corsair RAM in addition to 4 GB that came with the server. Installed two 3TB HGST Red NAS drives to hold all the data.

5 out of 5 eggsRocks

Pros: Price, size, Xeon Processor

Cons: HDD Cages

Other Thoughts: I have been running Server Essentials 2012R2 on this as a SOHO and media server. I still don't know if it's running because it's so darn quiet. Put in a 240GB SSD for OS and 4 Mechanical HDD. The cage is kind of difficult to remove and replace to get that 4th HDD under the DVD drive. Once put together though no worries. I love this and convinced my brother to buy one also. Did immediately add another 4GB RAM for about 50. I got nothing but good to say. NOTE** go to Lenovo check warranty when you get it. Mine only showed 9 months left. I attached my proof of purchase to an email and got a response within 48hrs adjusting the warranty date for the full amount. No hassle.
