5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fantastic little server. I added an additional 4GB of RAM, (2) 2TB WD Heavy Duty drives setup in RAID 1 and a 256GB SSD for Windows Server 2012 R2. I use it for hosting Ventrillo, game servers and a file share throughout the house.

Cons: Not enough HD bays, but what can you expect for under 400$?

Other Thoughts: Thinking about buying another.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat home server

Pros: Easy to setup
Low noise
Fast / powerful

Cons: Lenovo pushes Lenovo-brand memory for greater stability
Does not take buffered/registered RAM
ESXI 5.5 doesn't support it for virtualization out of the box. Need to get a version with extra drivers slip-streamed into it in order to install/setup

Other Thoughts: I'm currently running ESXI 5.5 (VMWare) with 2 Virtual servers (1 Windows 2008 Server R2 and 1 Windows 2012 Server) providing services for Mumble, Minecraft, Media, Printing and Filesharing for my house. I had previously re-purposed an old computer to perform this function, but it was unstable and noisy. When this server is on, you can't hear it at all, and I haven't had any issues with instability.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat machine!

Pros: - Cheap Entry Level Server/Workstation
- Very Quiet
- Small Footprint Mini-ATX
- Motherboard RAID 0/1/5/10
- USB 2.0/3.0
- 4 Drive Bays plus Slim DVD
- Flexibility/Upgradeability
- PCIe 16 slot

Cons: - Placement of front panel USB connector limits video card length
- Limited power supply options w/o using aftermarket adapters 24/20 to 14 pin required

Other Thoughts: The cheapest entry server/workstation I have owned. Previous experience with many Dells, a few HPs, and one Fujitsu. Bought six TS140s so far. 3 x i3-4130s, 2 x e3-1225v3, and 1 x e3-1275v3. They are highly upgradeable: CPU, memory, video, NIC, etc. Case in point...I have have upgraded one machine to e3-1271 v3, and one to i7-4790K. I have a mix of ECC and non-ECC, just not in the same machine. I have 1 x GT640, 1 x GTX 650Ti, 3 x GTX750Ti, and 1 x GTX 760 video (ITX variant). I have 3 x standard 280W PS, 2 x 450W and 1 x 660W PS. As mentioned, aftermarket power supplies require 20/24 pin to 14 pin adapter (~$20). Each of my machines has SSD as OS drive and mix of SSDs/HDDs as data drives. One machine is configured with three SSDs (On-board RAID 5 Data). I have 4 x Win 8.1 Workstations and 2 x Win 8.1/Server 2012 R2 dual boot. No experience with LINUX on these yet. These are really entry level servers that double very well as workstations. Not quite as refined as the brands listed above, but also not as expensive. Not sure I understand the two drive bay commentary...this model supports up to four HDDs/SSDs in addition to the DVD-ROM. You have the option of putting a third drive in the same bay as the DVD-ROM and the option of putting a 4th drive in the HDD adapter tray provided in the second 5.25 bay (you will need SATA cables to go beyond two drives of any flavor. Six machines in use and the only problem has been a case fan replaced under warranty. I agree that customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat server for the price!!

Pros: Speed and reliability are among the top pros for me. This server had all of the specs i needed for my customer. The customer was very pleased with everything.

Cons: 4GB or ram was a bit low. I maxed it out at 32 GB and this server was very fast.

Other Thoughts: It is a small server with only 2 drive bays. The RAM will need to be upgraded if you want to run applications such as SQL server and any other serious apps.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for small office

Pros: Easy to setup right from box. Popped in 2 3T drives and 8GB of memory and was up and running within a hour. Bios setup was straight forward for level 0 raid. Very, very quite.

Cons: Thing to note: need to purchase cables from mother board to drives. ( I had extra's from prior build)

Other Thoughts: Would recommend for small office.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Value! CPU + RAM + Power Supply is about what I paid (on sale) it's like getting a case & RAID Motherboard for free! Running 2 1080p monitors on the built-in display ports & RAID 0 Intel SSDs. This is a zoomer for the Web Browsing & Office work my wife does. After POST it is less than 10 seconds to Windows 8 logon.

Cons: I needed to load 2 drivers that Windows Update didn't locate. There is not enough built-in Power Supply to make this a gaming machine or large storage array.

Other Thoughts: I'm running one as a workstation and 2 as low-end servers. I would buy more in a flash if I needed a lab / low end server.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst support ever had

Pros: None

Cons: Put in a HP P400 raid controller and cannot be detected by the system. Call their tech support and was told only Lenovo raid controller can be supported (did Lenovo ever sell raid controller)? Asked whether IBM raid controller can be supported? And the answer is No! Then asked which can be be supported, and the answer is, because it is a low end server, NONE can be supported.
Before this, I don't believe when some people talk about Lenovo tech support are so bad, most of the rep don't have basic tech knowledge to help, now I have to agree with them.

Other Thoughts: Avoid Lenovo product if you can. This server does work under ESXi 5/5.1/5.5, but it cannot properly passthrough a good video card. And because the PSU is so weak, you may have to use another PSU (a 24pin to 14pin converted is required) to support your video card. It also cannot detect some old HDD controller (for example, controllers that use Sil3132 chip set or some very old LSI chip set). If you ever need their tech supprt, be prepared to meet those unqualified tech rep and regret to ever buy their product.

4 out of 5 eggsA great upgrade!

Pros: - theefourfour shipped, after tax!
- Xeon processor, baby! Aftermarket upgrade path available, to the E3-1286 v3, someday.
- x6 USB 3.0, x2 USB 2.0, BIOS can disable any or all.
- Whisper quiet operation (machine 2 feet away from me, I hear only HDDs).
- ECC RAM for stability, but this thing will also accept non-ECC RAM. Registered or buffered is a NO.

Cons: - Interior cable management is atrocious.
- SATA power cables come via motherboard, and are quite short.
- Only includes 1 available SATA data cable, 2 if DVD-ROM is removed.
- Card cage was a royal witch to get closed and latched after installing a dual-slot Nvidia GTX 750 Ti.
- Requires a 14-pin Lenovo to 24-pin ATX power adapter to upgrade to a different PSU.

Other Thoughts: Beware that this machine has NO PS2 ports. It does however have the 2.0 ports, which I bet were added for input devices. Also, it's just my preference, but I bought some foam filtration material and cut it ti shape to filter the primary air intake under the front cover. As long as one pays attention to the temps, that's less time spent with a can of compressed air later.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little server

Pros: Good entry level server to set up Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V for learning and experimenting. Very quiet and efficient. Just add SSD and enough RAM and I got a Windows 8, Sharepoint, Linux...set up to play with.

Cons: Server memory is expensive and it was hard to find good matching used ones. I ended up buying Crucial from NewEgg (1.35V, 16GB kit, UDIMM ECC) which worked very well.
