3 out of 5 eggsSoftware does not work

Pros: A quite server as many reviewers indicated. Low cost Server that meets small business needs.

Cons: One egg point off because the installation software stopped working halfway through the installation process. Freeze up the computer at the point when asking to insert the purchased WIN Server 2012 R2. Called Tech Support and downloaded newer version of installation software, but problem still not resolved. I ended up installing Win Server 2012 R2 without the help of installation software. The claimed bundled Roxio DVD burner software is nowhere to be found.
Another egg point off due to hassle that I experienced of working around to get hot swap hard disks installed. As another reviewer indicated, unless you want to spend a fortune to buy Lenovo Hot SWAP HD, you will have to take lots of effort to source the correct tray caddy for your hard disk. I installed two WD 3.5 inch hard disks for data and two Solid State Disks for Sever and applications with a RAID 10 configuration. I had to buy 4 caddies for the 3.5 inch disks and Solid Disks. Additional frame for Solid Disk to mount on the 3.5 inch tray caddy. Need two SATA cables to connect Solid Disks to the RAID board. All these hassle could have been avoided if Lenovo just make the Hot SWAP framework easier for their customer.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Small Business Server!

Pros: This server definitely does the job for our small business! We were looking for something relatively inexpensive to host a few programs that required server control as well as our network storage. Bought 2-2TB hard drives and set up in RAID 1 as well as a 120GB SSD for the server OS and base programs. Works great!

Cons: One con for the server itself, one con for my own issues (did not take off an egg for my own issue).

1. This particular server (I'm guessing it's a Lenovo thing in general) makes it VERY annoying to get hot-swap hard drives. No ordinary 3.5" hot-swap drive will fit here. You need to get the one directly through Lenovo, which can add to cost later on. I didn't know this and bought my 2-2TB drives as internal drives, but then had to buy (from a third party) the hot-swap bracket for this Lenovo case. Not a huge deal, but come on Lenovo - make it easier. Loses an egg for that one.

2. I'm a newbie when it comes to RAID, and when I installed my Windows OS (Server 2012 Essentials) I didn't realize that I had to put ALL my hard drives in the RAID controller to get the computer to recognize all drives. I tried to just put the SSD just off the Motherboard and the 2-2TB on the RAID controller. Wound up putting all three in the RAID controller and configuring it. Again, not worth an egg since it wasn't a big deal and it was primarily my fault for not knowing, but still worth mentioning here.

Other Thoughts: All in all it's a great server and gets the job done. Definitely worth the price compared against what my company paid for our last server 7 years ago. I loaded this one with Windows Server 2012 Essentials and it was a HUGE upgrade over our Windows Small Business Server 2003 lol...
