1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: None

Cons: Worst piece of equipment I have ever owned. Acer's recovery plan failed. Lost all my files (i.e. My Children's photos and home videos) Will never buy another Acer product as long as I live. Their tech support was a joke. These people suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 eggsLook for a deal

Pros: I bought this off an auction with 3.75TB in it for less then here. After getting it home, I swapped the 750GB drive for a WD 1TB drive. My initial thoughts were disappointing. The WHS Connector seemed limited and the MacAfee AV was annoying. However, once I RDC'd into the box, I was greeted with the standard windows interface. I was able to remove MacAfee, install Tversity and the K-lite codec’s. Going back to the Connector software, I was able to go into the settings and change the password requirements so my XP box could keep its simple password. The main thing is to run all of the updates and look around in the settings. All of the issues I have read about seem to be from people who are easily frustrated or have a lower tech skill level. Everything I want to do can be found by either looking around in the settings or by remote desktop connection. Windows 7 was even easier to set up. I now have 2 machines backing up to the server while storing and sharing my media across 3 consoles.

Cons: Though it seems to be aimed as a simple set up and go device, it is not. It took a little bit of time to figure it out and get it to do what I want it to do. The MacAfee software was not updated and constantly caused 'network health' issues. It would see my external HD that I use for work and want to add that to the backup queue. If it was unable to back up a machine within a week it would give a separate network health issue. Though that may not be such a bad thing.
Though I wish it was a raid set up, I did not pay the bigger bucks for one, so I am happy enough with the duplication. The only reasons I am removing 1 egg is because it can be daunting to set up and use. Also because I have only had it running for about a month now.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to use a device like this, make sure your home network is set up correctly. I have my office set up with this, my desktop and 2 consoles. All of them are connected via a gigabit switch I picked up from Newegg for 25 bucks. I can stream 1080p video while it backs up my files and I am running exe's off of the server, without a single hick up. I have another Xbox 360 in my living room running from an older Linksys wireless router. It is only a 10/100, so the video transcodes at a lower bit rate. I have a feeling once I upgrade the router it will be fine.
If you can get a good deal like I did, I would buy this in a heartbeat. Take your time with it and play around. Aside from some minor issues it tends to blow out of proportion, it does exactly what it is supposed to. Back up and share a household worth of files.
Once I get rid of comcast, I plan on installing the Orb software for offsite media viewing. I may update the review once I have those few things accomplished.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Home Server!

Pros: Easy setup, quiet, management is simple. Runs well right out of the box without any modifications required.

Cons: No VGA card if troubleshooting is required.

Other Thoughts: Wish it wasn't locked down as tightly as it is (no VGA card) but I've read forums where users have installed Linux or other operating systems without much difficulty.

4 out of 5 eggsSmall and very quiet running at a little over 50watts

Pros: Small form factor running at just a tad over 50watts it's a very very quiet server! (with x4 WD Greens). Adding/swapping drives is a breeze and WHS was easy to work with specially because it's remote desktop'able.

Cons: File transfer wasn't as fast as I hoped even with my router and switchs all being 1000base (probably becuase of the slower CPU). The WHSs "Drive extender" function made it kinda difficult for me to manage my shared folder as you don't have true control over which file goes where. I ended up logging in through remote desktop and re-configuring the shared folders in a more traditional fashion. The other small grouch is that Acer should've included a VGA cable and better virus software.

Other Thoughts: I was first thinking about a Linux NAS kit but ended up going with a more familiar Windows solution mainly because I lacked trouble shooting experience with Linux formatted drives and ext3. Despite the minor flaws it's been 3 months working fine and I'm happy with my purchase.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Deal Moderate Speed

Pros: Easy to setup, just follow instructions, Moderate speed download and Uploading
Quite and cool running. Easy Hardrive pull out, but careful is advice when
you load a hardrive in its tray it can break easy.
Works with windows xp and not sure if it works with windows 7. it would not work with Linux OS or Mac. Panel lights can be dim execpt the power lamp
Large cooling fan is efficient and increase speed when it gets hot.

Cons: I don't like the design of the control panel it s facing the left side gives you a neck ache when you look at it . because its like talking to a person who looks to the left not facing you. but I think Acer did this so you can turn the box on its right side and the panel facing upward.
You could not get it to access if your in other part of the country or state
Remote does not work unless you get tech support to fix it.
There lies the problem server is cheap plus you have to buy tech support package which is expensive. that cost 1/3 of the price of the server.
which is very bad, you buy cheap but pay more for additional service.
a service which I find very poor. Long waiting on the telephone.

Other Thoughts: I feel that anyone who bought this product regret buying it. I like my money back for this poor product because of very poor customer service support.
I would modify this server in the future when it drops dead. and use a different os
and a better motherboard and processor. Its like buying an empty box
I am not satisfied with ACER products

1 out of 5 eggsImpossible to recover WHS

Pros: The small form factor, low power use, and 4 drive bays is what drew me to the easyStore. WHS worked great for backing up all my PCs on the network and restoring those PCs.

Cons: I was having issues connecting to it over the network and it would just randomly reboot. It's impossible to troubleshoot yourself, so I called Acer. Their tech support basically consists of you sending the unit in for them to check it(You pay for shipping it to them), so I did. They sent it back saying no issues were found with it. I checked the OS drive(I received a Hitachi drive) with Hitachi Drive Fitness Test and no sector errors were found. So I decided to attempt to do a factory default install. Same issue of connecting to it over the network. I would get to various stages of the install and it would always fail. Thinking it was an issue with my router, I bought a new router and connected the easyStore and my laptop to it and attempted recovery that way and it still fails. I'm not sure what the issue is with this thing, but it's been useless for a few months now.

Other Thoughts: Works great until it fails. I did recover my data from the disks that were in the system. I ended up building my own WHS using: Supermicro X8SIL-F-O, Intel Core i3, and 3 x 2TB Hitachi DeskStars, MegaRAID SAS 8708ELP. The price of the easyStore is great, but if you rely on having access to your data I wouldn't trust it. I may look into putting FreeNAS onto it in the future, but for now it's just a giant paper weight.

2 out of 5 eggsCustomer service is key.

Pros: Inexpensive and a breeze to set up.

Cons: Impossible to find a replacement motherboard and still keep all of the features (4 HDD lights, backplane power, stock chassis wiring).

Other Thoughts: My H340 died on me 1 year and 10 days after purchase. Yep, ten days out of warranty. I really appreciated this machine, but Acer's notoriously terrible customer service (none, I get redirected to a third party when I call them, who gives me other dead-end numbers to call) has left me searching elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: For the price and what you get you cannot beat it. This the first pre assembled machine I have bought in years as I usually build all my systems. It is well designed with ample storage. It runs quiet and I have never had issues with heat. To me the software is elementary and even a non techie should be able to use it. Although this is basically a central hub to your home network allowing central storage of media and backups, it certainly can be used for much more. I run a HTPC connected to the server and play all my movies, music, and pictures with no issues. I run music streaming service to my android cell phone. I have an FTP File server running as well. Possibilities are endless with this thing from the novice to the expert depending on needs.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: People are quick to give 1 "egg" when they are mad. If you follow the setup and do it right you won't brick this machine. Also it is a "headless" unit meaning no video out. It can be managed via RDP easily. I elected to install a PCIE X1 video card which dropped right in.
