The Aspire Easystore H340 features 4 internal hard drive bays for easy storage expansion. It's already included a large 1TB SATA drive. If that isn't enough, there are 5 external USB 2.0 ports for external storage devices, printers and wireless networking. Or, if you want to go wired, there's a Gigabit Ethernet port. An e-SATA port is provided for high-speed external drives. This gives you redundancy or the ability to attach networked devices.

Pros: Extremely easy to setup, comes with 1TB hard drive vs. anything from HP and the price even beats HP. Small form factor, so it is easy to plug in and hide away without ever having to touch again. It also comes with 2GB of RAM vs HP's newest addition (LX195, which costs $375 at the time of this writing). I highly recommend the Acer easyStore H340 over any of the HP lineup.
Cons: Doesn't have a Mac connector that HP has come up with, which is nice if you have a Mac. I still think these devices are priced to high for the general user to take advantage of, which is why I think WHS hasn't taken off like it should. WHS is an awesome product for home, probably the best product outside of Windows for the home user that Microsoft has ever released.
Other Thoughts: There's very little wrong with this device, I am actually having a hard time thinking of things for the Cons section. For this market, it is the best price for what you get. Acer did a great job designing the housing, putting in a 1TB drive and the pricing. Highly recommended to anyone who needs storage capacity outside their main system (great for backups, storage and easy to access remotely too).

Smokin Deal vs. Competition
Reviewed By: Delzy on 6/2/2009
Tech Level: average - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: This thing was easy to set-up with my NetBook. We needed more storage and wanted to have a central storage hub. This was perfect. And when you compare it to the competition, Acer's kills them on price and options. Perfectly stores my music, photos and movies.
Cons: Heavy, but then again, your not dragging this around.

Great hardware, good software, bad bundled addons
Reviewed By: on 11/15/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Slick little piece of hardware. It's a good looking cube with hotswap drive bays hidden behind a door in the front; absolutely idiotproof to use. Plug it in and go.
It's quiet enough that I stuck it in my AV cabinet beside my HTPC (with the door closed you can't hear it, with the door open it's still very quiet). The console offers control over the LED brightness, which is pretty slick. If only I could make my router and HTPC less "blinky".
If you're looking to simply backup whole machines at a time, you're going to love the software. Install the client software on each machine, and it'll magically back the whole thing up for you in the middle of the night.
Cons: Where it gets rough is the bundled software that Acer chose to include. I'm guessing they get handed a few bucks for every box they ship, because it comes with some TERRIBLE McAfee antivirus software that's a bloated pain.
About the bundled McAfee software: -Starts nagging you the second you get this thing working -Cannot be removed from the Home Server console -Must be manually stopped then removed through Remote Desktop -Uses over 500MB of RAM at idle on my fresh install, and chugs at 40% CPU utilization -The first option in the systray context menu is "Buy"
I uninstalled this junk and instantly it's more responsive and much faster.
Also, there's no easy way to back up specific folders only. One some machines, I just don't care if the thing gets wiped, but there's only 1 little folder that I want to automatically back up. WHS seems to focus on backing up whole machines and not specific files.

H340 Review

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Setup was amazingly easy, took less then an hour to be up and going. Performance is what you would expect from an Atom processor. Overall the price and performance is worth the money.
Cons: Product description said it came with a WD Green 1TB drive for the OS, it didn't. It came with a Hatachi drive. I understand that's not Newegg's fault. The processor and memory installed are the limit for this motherboard so if your looking to upgrade you have to change out the motherboard as well. Also, the "rumors" are the newest version of WHS (due out as soon as next year) will be 64bit only so it will not run on this box.
Other Thoughts: While I was impressed with this little server it does have some limitations. Because its just a 1.6 Atom its pretty easy to overload the box with running services. Streaming audio, video, and pictures works great, add a website and a SQL database and you can count on it sitting at 100% on the memory and processor. I did not deduct an egg for this the machines limitations should be obvious to anyone who reads the description. If your new to windows home server read up on it before you buy this box, it does have very specific limitations that may impact your specific use for this box.
