2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive, decent processor, nice form factor

Cons: Came with a bad power supply, poor communication from company, after a month now finally have a working unit, but out more money..

Other Thoughts: I would be reluctant before ordering from this manufacturer again.

2 out of 5 eggsNice BSD box

Pros: I have been using this server for a few months, first as a FreeBSD web server and now currently a Pfsense box, both operating systems worked out of the box with no driver tweaking needed. The Dual network cards are a plus.

Cons: After the second month the CPU fan started making a grinding sound; of course new egg referred me to the manufacture and they have been absolutely no help. They could not RMA the fan because the unit has no S/N on it.

Other Thoughts: After three weeks and no email response from Habey. I purchased the fan from another site for $12. Very sad that Habey would not stand by the product or have any decency to respond to emails after I told them the unit had no S/N. I would not buy another Habey unit ever again.

5 out of 5 eggsLittle Box That Could

Pros: The EPC-6566 is a wonderful little box that takes what's thrown at it and keeps on going. The case, while not fancy, is quite sturdy. All the NICs do work, but on some version of linux, one requires some manual setup. Windows runs great.

Cons: No "ears" in the box.

Other Thoughts: Emailed Habey tech support asking where I could purchase ears. They sent me a set free of charge. Thanks!

4 out of 5 eggsIntel Atom 1U

Pros: Small, efficient, inexpensive. Paired with a 16GB SSD, this thing is a power-sipping home Web server.

$ uptime
21:39:10 up 117 days

Cons: From the first look and feel, it is neither flimsy nor sturdy. Like early reviewers, my unit encountered an issue where the PSU shorted with the chassis. I had to unscrew the power supply and adjust the insulating material between it and the chassis.

The power/reset buttons gave me a bit of trouble, but once the unit was working, I no longer needed physical access to it.

Other Thoughts: Technically not fanless. There is a CPU fan, but there are no chassis fans.

1 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: Cassiss Design is simple and motherboard fits nicely. Ability to see PSU wiring from front vent left a lot to be desired. Two NICs is a plus

Cons: -Built cheaply. For the price it should include RAM at a minimum.
-No Documentation of any kind
-Could have built this for much cheaper

Other Thoughts: I have purchased this unit in the hopes of developing my own linux-based appliance. I was very let down on the presentation of the product. I was also dissapointed RAM was not included especially for the price.

Functionality is exactily what i expected from an Atom CPU. the system only has one DDR3 SODIMM slot and can only address a max of 2GB of RAM. This can eventually become a disadvantage if you are addressing large ammounts of data into RAM.

Time will tell of its durability.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat fanless unit

Pros: 1U fanless unit. You just hear the slight noise of the CPU fan. Multiple serial ports as I needed. Windows 7 32bit ran perfectly. Running 24/7 x 1 month with no problems; motherboard can be set to automatically power up again to OS after power-loss through BIOS; no bulky transformer - powersupply on separate board in case.

Cons: did not boot-up on arrival; front panel LEDs for power, HDD, reset switch needed to be connected to motherboard; no motherboard manual included or even on their website - but not really required

Other Thoughts: I called Habey tech support and a real knowledgeable tech support person answered the phone immediately. He gave me a few things to try and I was up in no time (was a powersupply board short to ground and I kept turning off to protect itself; reseating powersupply corrected). He stated that all units are assembled and tested prior to shipping. The shipping process probably caused the problem (although it was shipped in a custom sized foam inserts container). I put a slimline DVD drive in it as well.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap 1U rackmount unit

Cons: It didn't come with any documentation, but I later found everything I needed printed on the PCB of the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Purchased one of these from another online store. I use this at home to essentially act as my home router/gateway/firewall. It works perfect for this. It's been up 24/7 without any issues for the last 2 months or so.

1 out of 5 eggsHABEY KABEY POOF!!!

Pros: We purchased 2 of these. They were cheap. 2 Gbs NICs

Cons: They are built cheap. One of two would not post. The other had a grinding CPU fan on first boot.

The Network Indicators/Warning Indicator are not functional. There is no header for them on the motherboard. (I promise it's not there, you could solder the error light to the lpt1 port if you knew the pinouts and the network indicators to the LED pins on the RJ45s.)

The motherboard standoffs are 1mm tall. There is a mini pci-x port 6.5mm tall on the bottom of the board less than 2cm from a standoff. If you're following me correctly then you'll realize the board is bent more than 1/4inch because of this. So much so that it is visually pulling the PCI slot on the top off the board in the back. A little flex in a board is okay. This is unacceptable. I will not put our reputation on these, you should not either.

Newegg does not have a suitable substitute for these systems or the boards in them. SEE "Other Thoughts".

Other Thoughts: For just a few dollars more we were able to build sweet machines with a Super Micro X7SPA-H $200, and a SuperMicro 512L-200B chassis $100.

With the x7spa, you need to read the manual, there are a ton of headers on the board you do not want to touch. They are also very picky about memory.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsWe shall see

Pros: Small, inexpensive and works with Ubuntu Server 10.10.

Cons: I bought two of these and one of them powers off after 5 or 10 minutes without warning.

Other Thoughts: I have contacted the company for a replacement. I will post back on how they handle RMAs.
