3 out of 5 eggsMinor challenges so far

Pros: Unit looks very sturdy. Looks like it should carry heat away from the mobo reasonably well. Won't know until I get Ubuntu Linux up and running.

Case screws are easy to work with and not the easily stripable sort prevalent on many systems.

Cons: Had quite a time getting the lower SODIMM in place due to the location of the power switch at the front of the case. It is doable, but takes a bit of work.

The manual included on the CD does not appear to match the actual mobo. The layout in it does not match the board I have.

Because there was no documentation other than the manual, I'm not quite sure what the two loose copper 'rods' inside the case are for.

Due to the 90 degree bend on one end of the SATA cable, I had to elect to install that cable either in a fashion that blocked the second onboard SATA port or else try to plug it into the SSD which will be attached to the bracked on the underside of the top of the unit. The problem here is the 90 degree SATA connecter L's in one direction, the 90 degree power connector L's in the opposite direction! Not handy!

Other Thoughts: Mostly the cons were annoyances. I'm sure I can find the right manual online. I did get the memory in (mangled one of the hold-in tabs a bit but that won't matter much as the unit isn't going to be jostled). And I replaced the provided SATA cable with a straight ended (both ends) cable which means I can mount it without obscuring the other onboard SATA cable or having a problem with the SSD mounting because the two L connectors go in opposite directions.

So, so far, no real show stoppers. Just minor annoyances.

4 out of 5 eggsWrong Ram

Pros: It's compact, and easy to setup.

Cons: The ram in the details is actually incorrect, I ordered DDR2 SO-DIMM and the motherboard actually takes DDR3 SO-DIMM

2 out of 5 eggsOverheating was an issue for me

Pros: Small size
Minimalistic design
Low power usage
Uses laptop DDR2 RAM

Cons: There is no power available for additional internal devices such as hard drives and CD-ROMS. There are SATA ports but no molex power adapters to connect to.
Mini PCIe ports did not work for me.
Overheats - Maximum operating temperature for this motherboard is 50C. When it overheats, the video output flickers which is aggravating as a HTPC. The temperature lowered a bit when I reapplied thermal paste but still overheated. Same results when I place the computer in a colder room.

Other Thoughts: Although this is very affordable, I had to go out of my way to make it somewhat usable. I think if the case had more vents and fans, it would have been better.

Manufacturer Response:

We only include one set of SATA and power cables. If you require additional SATA and power cables, please feel free to contact us. One of the Mini-PCIe slots is SSD only and the other is for other devices. If a Mini-PCIe slot does not work, we can replace the unit for you under warranty. The thermal threshold of the Atom D525 processor is 100C. If you are experiencing issues with your unit, please feel free to contact us regarding that as well. Our tech support contact number is 909-594-7600 x 102.
