2 out of 5 eggsSony has really disapointed with the ps3 build

Pros: - Worked well for 2 years till it died ( I dont game a lot).

Cons: I had to replace it and pay 100$ for it to be fixed, all 3 Sony controllers that I bought within a 4 year period have died or malfunctioned in some way. the controller build is horrible. Sony continues to sell them for crazy prices but have them cheaply constructed. I hope they really get ahead on the PS4, I don't trust them anymore.

Other Thoughts: Read cons

5 out of 5 eggsSony has their Groove Back

Pros: I was a huge Sony hater for a long time due to previous issues, but now I am back on! This system works beautifully with my Media Server and it is definately the best Blu-Ray player on the market. I didn't buy one originally because the game selection was pretty weak up untill recently. It may have taken them way longer than other, but they finally found their groove again. And of course, the graphics are amazing.

Cons: Gets hotter than a pistol behind it. Cables seem to be able to take the heat, but be careful with what you put behind it. You may need to look at methods to keep the system cooler. The Divx playback is a hit-and-miss. Most of my videos play but some just don't even though they were all encoded the same way. Not a big deal, but just something to be aware of. Your controllers will not charge when the system is in "standby" mode or off. The wireless on the system is b/g only. If you want to get the high online speeds, go wired.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I am extremely impressed with this system.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Very nice aesthetics
- 250GB HDD is definitely worth the extra price. With all the mandatory game installs, DLC, playstation store games, and demos, you're going to be glad you got the largest storage option. I can't believe they used to sell 20-60GB versions of this thing.
- Less prone to failure than the older models
- Still one of the best blu-ray players on the market

Cons: - Gets hot, but seeing as how this is a console it's been designed for that so it's not much of a worry. Just make sure it gets good ventilation (ie don't put it on carpet or in an enclosed area)
- Is not backwards compatible like the first few versions. However, you probably already know this. You can still play PS1 games bought off the playstation store though, it's just the discs that won't play.
- The PS3 has no way to switch it's resolution output without operating through the console's menu. This is actually a pretty big deal since it means if you normally play this thing on a 1080p screen but then bring it over to a friend's house who has a 720p TV or SDTV and you didn't set the PS3's output to that particular resolution before you brought it over then you cannot play it until you hook it up to a 1080p TV again.

Other Thoughts: It's a PS3, you know what you're getting.

5 out of 5 eggsLove me my PS3

Pros: this is a great unit! it's more than a game console, it's a media center PC basically...

I can watch divx/xvid movies off of my fat32 formatted 16 gig thumbdrive with no problem at all, or transfer them to the hard drive. or I can set up my windows 7 pc as a media server and watch movies off of there.

gaming is great, wireless controller has long batt life and range. I also bought the Blu-ray remote and that's good for movies and such tho you can use the controller itself...

I'm so happy I got this, it's a wonder! great graphics, it upscales movies to 1080p and tons of features such as a built in web browser plus you can add a wireless keyboard...

Cons: won't play .mkv files (720p/1080p) or see a thumbdrive formatted in ntfs but minor quibbles..

Other Thoughts: definitely the best home entertainment buy I've made

4 out of 5 eggsGreat console!

Pros: Quieter than an xbox 360. Battery last longer. Free online Play. Built in Wireless. Robust PS Store. Good non FPS exclusives.

Cons: Short charge cable for controller. No seperate battery packs. If the battery dies, you need a new controller. No auto off function after period of inactivity for controller. No built in VGA support, using an X2VGA 2.0 for my needs. No auto reconnect feature if you are disconnected from PSN due to an error. Except for the controller, most of these issues can be solved with a firmware update I believe.

Other Thoughts: I love this thing. So much better than an xbox 360. Granted multiplatform games are usually better on xbox, but thats not because of the system but rather because of the bad ports developers make. A prime example of this is bayonetta. This is why I only plan to own a handful of multiplatform games and stick to exclusives, unless of course I'm buying something for the online play, which I don't have to pay for. Current games I own for PS3:
MGS 4,Brutal Legend, Eternal Sonata, White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII, Demons' Souls , PSN downloads of Vandal Hearts, and Final Fantasy Tactics,
and of course Heavenly Sword.
