ddr 2/2/2012 1:50:35 PM Tech Level: 4/5 Ownership: 4/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 2/5Cobra 29-WX NW ST Classic Pros: Dimmable Back Light Mic output control Weather channels SWR/Cal features Cons: Weather alert Squelch operation You can't keep the weather control on a weather station if the unit power goes off when the vehicle is turned off. When it comes on, it uses the loudest volume setting, no matter where it is set, for checking the weather alert system. REALLY ANNOYING. You have to turn it to 0 channel to stop the noise. Reception -I can't get the squelch to operate correctly, or the way I expect it to work. It will cut off background noise and then half of what somebody is transmitting. To hear the whole transmission, the squelch needs to be turned down and then you get the background noise. I haven't found a happy medium. Set in between, the background noise fades in and out all the time. VERY ANNOTING. My old unit would be silent until somebody transmitted. The Sound Tracker doesn't seem to do anything. It does quiet it down if you don't use noise limiter, but no more than the noise limiter does. It seems to be ineffective otherwise. Other Thoughts: I bought this thinking it would be a lot better than my Radio Shack Realistic TRC 428 that I bought in 1982. They are almost identical I figured there would have been a vast improvement in the 30years since then, but I was mistaken. I am using a magnetic mount Weather capable antenna on my van that is supposed to be for this unit. All in all, I am not pleased with my purchase. Did you find this review helpful? RoLleRKoaSTeR 11/23/2008 7:34:08 PM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 5/5	Rating: 4/5Thinking about buying as exact replacement Pros: * Owned for several years - since 1999 * Tried and true performance in my small car * Attached to a Wilson 'Lil Wil' antenna on my car with 4 foot antenna * Noise blocker works real good * Does not reset the channel when powered off, not like some cheaper models Cons: * Size, but that is easily remedied in cars * After about five years the "Night Watch" Illumination quit * The meter light seems to be getting darker in time Other Thoughts: Thinking about getting a new one and while the one I got, I will give to my dad for his truck. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Manufacturer's description of the product could not be more accurate. Cons: don't forget about a high quality antenna, without it this unit is useless. Unit does not have a PFC filter installed so you might get some noise if your power source has a transformer somewhere in the power chain. but that can be easily fixed with a small upgrade. 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful.
