4 out of 5 eggsGreat Recorder

Pros: It small and easy to carry with you. It’s has worked well for several years and continues to do so.

Cons: Can not find cons

2 out of 5 eggsState of the Art for 1998

Pros: Might work fine; I have no way to know. Works fine as a handheld recorder.

Cons: Despite the claim of "USB Plug and Play with Macs and PC's" here, does NOT work with either Mac OS X or any 64-bit Windows OS. Does not mount as a USB storage device like other models, nor does it recognize its own drivers in 64-bit Windows (none exist at all for Mac). So there's no way to get the data off it onto your PC.

Other Thoughts: No 64-bit support makes this a foolhardy long-term purchase; everything will be 64-bit in a couple years. Vista 64 has been out for a couple years now, and Olympus clearly isn't going to write drivers for it.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Large capacity. 2 levels for microphone recording.
4 folders. 100 max each folder.

Cons: Low on the microphone is bad.. you have to speak abnormaly loud. High: supersensative. An air conditioner in the background will completely mess up the recording.

Other Thoughts: The microphone should have a medium setting or just get a microphone.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small and portable, low price, easy to read screen, comes with case! Line in allows for external microphone to be plugged in, definitely a plus, line out allows for earphones to be plugged in, also a plus.

Cons: Speaker is on the back, makes it hard to set down and listen, and when you're typing notes that you recorded, that is a problem! "Hold" switch instead of a certain off button, drains the battery more than I'd like.

Other Thoughts: I actually had to read the manual to figure out how to do a few things, but the basics were easy enough to figure out quickly. I wish it came in different colors, plain old silver allows it to blend in and look just like all the other recorders. I have not as of yet used the software.

3 out of 5 eggsWeak Mic

Pros: Its small

Cons: The mic seems weak. I hope that it will pick up the instructors voice clearly. So far the tests I have done with it are a bit disappointing.

Other Thoughts: I will defiantly have to get some rechargeable batteries.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what its supposed to do.

Pros: It does what its supposed to do at an affordable price.

Cons: It has 4 folders in it, each that holds about 100 minutes but you have to manually move it to the next folder when you've filled up the first one, which can make you miss a few seconds of lecturing. Not a real problem though.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Little Recorder

Pros: Excellent little recorder. Great sound quality. I use it for recording talks in halls and auditoriums and it picks up the speakers perfectly. It's small, light and easy to brainer. The software works really well. All in all an excellant product...just what I expect from Panasonic.

Cons: None thus far.

Other Thoughts: Records in wave format. I use Acoustica to convert to MP3.

5 out of 5 eggsJust plain nice.

Pros: As digital recorders go, this one is fantastic. The buttons are intelligently placed and easy to use without even looking at them. Stick in your pocket, feel for the record button, and away you go. Audio is clear and crisp. I've recorded meetings with people sitting across the room and holding the recorder in a shirt pocket. Great product.

Cons: None.
