1 out of 5 eggsWaste your money elsewhere

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: Weapon balance...good feel to the game. 60 fps*

*(as in they removed so many features that make it Halo for the sake of 60 fps)

Cons: First off, 343i built up their own game engine for Halo 5, instead of using previous iterations. It shows
-Vehicle physics are beyond acceptable for a "next gen" game. Minor cracks in the terrain flip your vehicle whimsically, driving is a chore, hit detection fails miserably, splattering someone with your vehicle is a 50/50 wash between killing them, or them knocking the vehicle over
-The engine in general has a ton of bugs, errors, glitches. There have been bugs since beta for the UI or menu screen. How hard is that to fix?
-Very unoptimized. Feels like they slapped together some coding during a drunken binge over a weekend

Next, there is virtually no content. Nearly every "new" map is a forge based map (basically a remake of a previous entry), of the new maps, it feels like a five year old designed them. Very unbalanced, terrible power weapon spawns, and a snore fest.
-There are so few maps, you will find yourself playing a map 4 to 5 times in a row a lot of the times...and this is after 5 or so months since beta. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!

Warzone and the subsequent requisitions dominate the updates. Skins and everything to satiate the microtransactions. We got a pizza skin for a gun before we got a new map mode!

Forge would be good if there was content. No weapon variety, no vehicle variety, no mode variety = bad forge experience

If you like to play competitively, than be prepared to smash your head in. Like Halo 4, 343i likes to give players a power weapon at the start for some reason. In Halo 4 you had the laughable destructiveness of the Bolt shot which was more powerful than the shotgun. Now, it seems like 343i didnt learn and gave you a gravity hammer ie. shoulder charge and ground pound. Shoulder charge rewards blindly running into a corner (good idea right?!?) While ground pound abuses the broken radar.

Warzone would have been great if not for 343i's laziness. Everything is static, the bosses are on timers so everyone knows when they spawn, leading to a very dull experience the second time onward. The bases are exactly the same, there isnt any variety. It's pay to win in Warzone as well. (For those that disagree, let me explain something. Can you level up or get better gear/items by paying extra money? Do these give an advantage over those who dont? The req system does, therefor it's pay to win.)

Overall, this game is the literal definition of cash in and laziness. It feels like they spent a total of 2 months working on it

Other Thoughts: I would NOT recommend this product. Save your money. Stay away anything 343i related at all. This is NOT worth the asking price for a supposedly triple A next gen game.

1 out of 5 eggsHalo 5 was a huge disappointment Christmas morning

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: I guess it made Microsoft and 343 employees happy

Cons: I wanted to get away from Xbox and get a PlayStation for this generation of consoles. My kids, however, wanted the Xbox to play Halo. I, of course, got them Halo 5, an Xbox One, 1 year of gold, and 3 extra controllers. After my kids anxiously waited, for what seemed like forever, for the Xbox to install this stupid game. The kids all sat down with a controller in hand and launched Halo 5. Their disbelief and disappointment was real. Halo was turned off and another game install began.... Sigh, $600 dollars wasted. Not having local split screen is like some old bitty adding raisins to your favorite desert or a cream filled treat that no longer has a cream filling. You are all excited for the seemingly inevitable good feeling you get when bite your favorite treat, but then there is a terrible surprise.

343 Industries you have failed this game and many loyal Halo fans with your irresponsible handling of Halo. Not all Halo players have real life friends that enjoy casually playing Halo and they will come to your defense; however, many do. You have ostracized those players and you have closed opportunities to attract new players. Many of my real life friends purchased Halo after playing it at my house. They would then come over and hook up their Xbox and invite more Halo newbs to come join the fun and the cycle continued.

After my kids had some time to get their split screen and local multi-player gaming needs met in much more popular and non-platform exclusive games… double sigh. They went back to Halo to try out the lonely single player campaign that interestingly enough involves working with a squad of computer scripted teammates… Even my youngest son could see the irony in that. Take away split screen co-op and put you in with a squad of scripted teammates. Then they are told that they are to hunt down their beloved Master Chief… What? At one point my son wondered if he just let himself die, if he could continue the rest of the story as Master Chief. No such luck, you are forced to play as a guy that you want to see loose. Those are the 3 primary reasons why my kids were so disappointed with this broken game.

1 out of 5 eggsweakest of all Halo games so far

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: Really nice graphics. But who cares when the single player campaing is only 5-6 hours, and has a mediocre story.

Cons: single player campaing is only 5-6 hours, and has a mediocre story. This game is worth $20 at most, there is just not enough game here for a full MSRP price.

5 out of 5 eggsThe MP is the best Halo MP since Halo 2, Single player is suitably epic and has top-notch design

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: Let's get one thing out of the way first.

The online component for Halo 5 is absolutely stellar. 343 have gone back to the drawing board on this and have created a next-gen Halo experience that expertly blends the old with the new in the most glorious ways.
You have your classic Halo 2 equal starts along with new fluid mechanics that are sure to play into some incredibly tense matches.
Arena is highly competitive, but if you want huge 12v12 matches with AI, go to warzone. You will not regret playing that mode. Warzone is literally a huge high point for Halo 5. They've pretty much nailed it on the head with Warzone. Really great mode.

Moving on to the story. If you didn't mind the advertising much for this game, you will come away extremely pleased with the campaign. The story is tight and the lore is rich. The level design in Halo 5 is Halo at its best and extends its verticality more than any other Halo or FPS ever released. Seriously, when you play Halo 5, you'll know exactly what I mean.
The ending of the game might throw some people off, but it's pretty shocking, nonetheless.
Go in with an open mind and you'll have some appreciation for it.

In short, the mp is absolutely incredible. It may look like a CoD game on the surface, but its so much more richer and tighter and fluid than anything else on the market at this point.
The story does its job and sets up the story for Halo 6 nicely. If you've read the books and and played all the games, including spartan ops, you'll appreciate the story here that much more.

I'll keep updating this review as I continue playing.
So far, it's a rock-solid 4.8/5.

Cons: Campaign could have been longer. A bit short for my taste.
Split-screen isn't there, but I'm not going to dock points for that as lack of split screen was already communicated to us for a long time.

Other Thoughts: Just go in with an open mind and you'll like the game.
Just remember that this is a more modern Halo that combines that best of Halo 2 and the best of modern gameplay mechanics and adds a bit of new as well.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best Console Shooter - Evolved Again

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: This is the most action packed Halo Ever!! The campaign is just as it Should be; entertaining ALL the way through (I've already played it 3 times;), with HUGE Movie Screen moments, great graphics and sounds, 60 FPS buttery smoothness and 4-Player drop-in/drop-out co-op.

The Multi-Player is just Awesome!! There's the new WarZone game type that's Extremely well balanced (Especially for a game this Size) and the entire multi-player system Feeds you REQ points at a Very Generous Rate; so there's No Need to Ever Buy Any. I use them as fast as possible (dropping in Tanks, overshields, souped up guns, Giant Mechs and More) and there's never any shortage, just from what I earn playing. It's a fun new game type with an EPIC Feel

The Real Crown Jewel though, for me, has got to be the 4 v 4 Slayer and small team based games.

I absolutely Love the Purity of Combat, that IS HALO. If the opposition has somehow gotten an advantage, it's on you. There are no advantages to combat other than being legitimately better than your opponent. The maps are well designed and FUN. You'll be engaged from bell to bell in this one... or you'll be dead..haha

Cons: No Forge, YET!!!

When this Amazing game creation tool is released, it will bring back Classics game types like Griff Ball, Zombies and crazy custom maps and game types GALORE!!! Endless FUN!!!! I can't wait for zero gravity rockets and brute hammers in a big giant sphere with high speed and boosters ON!! Haha

Other Thoughts: 60 Fps makes the entire experience smooooooth as butter; with confident aiming and melees that are much easier to line up.

Vertical movement is Ramped UP!! Vaulting over ledges, hanging in the air with your rocket pack and slamming into the ground while your enemies go's Very Satisfying

I LOVE THE STORY OF HALO!!! This is the beginning of a new Trilogy in the series and I love where they're taking it.

Great job 343, thank you

5 out of 5 eggsgreatp

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: Well finally something in 60fps on the Xbox one haha. Plus its halo, I've always loved halo since I was a kid. The way they continued the story in this halo game is great! I think it was great especially the legendary ending makes me even more excited for what 343 has in stored for us halo fans in the future. really enjoy the campaign and especially online is a ton of fun, 343 did an amazing job with that.

Cons: I love this halo game, but no split screen. Who cares if its not gonna be 60fps, halo is all about split screen. One more thing that I didn't really like, is the fact that you play mostly as spartan Locke, and a few missions with master chief. Cmon, master chief is beast! I wanted to see him more.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: It's halo oh and that new breakout multiplayer mode that's all the pros look at my cons. I'd say just wait until the price drops to like 30$ this holiday season it's not worth 70$

Cons: the gameplay is ok it has the advance warfare mechanics minus the wall running. the controller mapping suck they had good mapping for the master chief collection just not halo 5 and there are way to many mechanical issues like when being downed in campaign I've been flung off the map just by getting shot by a carbine or basically any gun and if you play on legendary it is ridiculous like you get shot 2 time and your down plus your teamate AI's don't do anything unless you mark a person. Oh yea did I mention if you call them to pick you up when your downed they decide to go straight through all the fire downing themselves in the process. If you do decide to play the terrible campaign on legendary with a friend be warned it takes more to take down an enemy.

1 out of 5 eggsNo couch co-op!!

This review is from: Halo 5: Guardians - Xbox One

Pros: I was excited about a new Halo game

Cons: No couch co-op in Halo!! I am selling this and buying Star Wars Battlefront. Lame they could not include that feature, which has been a staple of the Halo series.
