Criterion completely re-invents their Burnout series. Long the king of the road in arcade racing, Paradise City raises the bar with a completely open city that lets you drive where you want, and do what you want right from the start. From the downtown freeways on the east side of town to the rolling country roads to the west, there are plenty of racing action as well as hidden locations awaiting discovery.
Pick up a race at any of the 120 traffic lights in town and you're off. Racing is more than just moving from point A to point B as it's up to you to find the best route to take to get to your destination. Victories unlock a new car from the list of 75 available, but to get it to appear in your garage, you have to "take it down" using your current vehicle. Race through the incredibly detailed city in 7 modes that'll have you burning up the asphalt, drifting, flipping and jumping, racing the clock or going for collisions day or night.
Collisions are fully detailed with the ability to fold, mutilate and spindle your car or motorcycle – or that of your opponent. If you can drive away from your wreck, you can easily repair it by driving through a repair shop. Online play allows you to challenge up to 7 other players to events with a simple push of the button. A blistering 60fps video keeps the action flowing smoothly without a flicker as you watch pieces of your opponent's car fly past.

Racing GOTY 2008
- Pros: Gameplay, graphics, innovative, unlike traditional Burnout games
- Cons: Initially overwhelming
- Other Thoughts: This is the best arcade racer I've ever played. Everything about it is amazing down to the smallest of details. The cars handle tight and responsively, the city is beautiful, the sense of speed Burnout games are known for is in full effect, and I haven't had this much fun with an arcade racer in years. (Excluding Mario Kart games). The redefinition of the Burnout series is a much needed and appreciated change in my opinion. Showtime is a blast, and I enjoy the ease of online play (real-time online menu at the press of the right d-pad button) and the shear freedom this game presents. Every intersection has an event, and there's never a dull moment in Paradise City. I couldn't recommend this game more, and it's the first Must-Buy of the year on all consoles.
Can't Go Wrong Here
- Pros: This has got to be one of the most fun racing games ever created. It's free roam play let's you decide what you want to do and when and there is plenty to keep you busy.
From racing to stunt runs, go on a take down rampage or jump online and challenge your friends or others in an almost endless amount of ways. This game has great stats for you to pour over and has generated hours of fun for myself and my 6 year old son. Family fun for all ages. No matter what racing game was your favorite before this one is probably going to satisfy your tastes and feel pretty natural right out of the box.
- Cons: The Party Pack Expansion was recently released for 800 MS points and while it does provide fun challenges for you and your friends it doesn't allow a split screen driving mode where 2 players could race around on the same system. I guess the 360 can't handle the amount of processing required to do that. Also they could have made controller assignments adjustable so we don't have to share a controller when there is only 2 players.
- Other Thoughts: I do enjoy all the updates, most all of them have been free up until the Party Pack and now the Legendary Cars, Toy Cars and others soon to follow. It's all been well received and it's always something for my son to look forward to.

not what I was expecting
- Pros: It's got good graphics and "bling" on my plasma.
- Cons: Nothing like Burnout: Revenge was. I had much more fun playing that.
Woo HOO!!!
- Pros: Awesome game!!! Music very nice!
- Cons: No cons about the game.
- Other Thoughts: Took 4 days to get to my house. I live in San Diego and it left from south of Los Angeles...kinda disappointed about that but hey, it was free shipping from DHL and then tendered over to USPS...Oh well. Remember the days when you would get items in like 1-2 days...ahh yea.
Excellent+
- Pros: Good ol' Burnout set in a sandbox. Along with a lot of updates and free content. More than worth your $20.
- Cons: Still getting used to the non-linear routes for races, etc. Not a big deal.
- Other Thoughts: Give the demo a try at least, it's still on XBLM I believe.
