Need for Speed: Shift

ESRB Rating
E - Everyone
Xbox 360

Need for Speed™ SHIFT is an award-winning authentic racing game that combines the true driver’s experience with real-world physics, pixel-perfect car models, and a wide range of authentic race tracks. Need for Speed SHIFT takes players in a different direction to create a simulation experience that replicates the true feeling of driving high-end performance cars.

True Driver’s Experience – A variety of visual cues delivers the true driver’s experience including a three-dimensional HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia and G-forces. The depth of field also adjusts based on the speed of the car; so when the car is travelling at high speeds the perspective will shift to the distance putting the car/cockpit out of focus.

Driver Profile – What kind of driver are you? Driver profile tracks the player’s evolution as a race driver from event to event. This system is made up of a driver’s personality on the track, their success rate and any profile points and badges accrued all of which work together to create a tailor-made career and gameplay experience. Driver profile is pervasive throughout all modes: career and online.

Dynamic Crash Effect - When the player hits a static object or opponent car, the player will feel like they are 'taking damage'. A combination of visual and audio effects will leave the player disorientated and briefly disrupt the race.

Total Customization – Need for Speed SHIFT features a comprehensive customization option that lets the player tailor every aspect of the cars performance and styling. Go under the hood to upgrade and tune your vehicle to increase its performance. The visual customization system allows players to personalize both the exterior and trick out the interior to reflect their individual style and preferences.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing NFS

Pros: This Need for Speed game is awsome. It has:
* great graphics
* the best cockpit experience out of any racing game
* a good selection of cars
* great upgrades for cars
* more of an ability to tune than anticipated

Cons: The soundtrack is scimpy. Races sometimes get way too difficult.

Other Thoughts: This is not really a con, but this game provides way too much races or events. This prolongs the game, however, it also makes the game have a bloated appearance. I level up a tier before I could try more than twenty-five percent of the races in that tier(I push to get all the stars for each race). I bought this game from Newegg(from my friend's Newegg account). No scratches or defects were on the disc case.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but very Flawed

Pros: Large selection of REAL (note the real in all caps) tracks
Large selection of REAL (especially note the real in all caps) supercars not bouncy little tuners
sense of speed
engine sounds
upgradebility of cars
real race parts and have real effects
real tuning
ORGANIZED TRACK RACING not street racing with the cops trailing and hiding in alley ways
cockpit view
models and textures look brilliant

Cons: No weather
No night
Tries so so so very hard to be a simulator its almost bad. Roll over and car crashes are pathetic
Damage effects from crashes=pathetic (you can slam into a concrete wall at 200mph and still drive on)
Cars look like clumsy variable geometric shapes when they crash or attempt to roll over
Upgrades extremely vague and basic along with tuning tool
***************************the dreaded car bounce just about RUINS the game completely. here you are on Road America coming off the straight at 176mph, you brake and follow the turn in but then all of the sudden your wheels lift off the ground and your car starts bouncing like the energizer bunny from h**l and slam into the wall and back down to last place

AI drivers are complete M*R*NS..

Other Thoughts: this is a big improvement from NFS Underground and Carbon but I am so confused as to how EA let this ship with sooo many obvious errors. The car bounce is ridiculous and i have lost countless races thanks to it. how could EA miss something THAT big?????

I think they should do a remake of this game but with all the cons i listed above evaporated *
EA that means CHECK the game before you ship it. were you half asleep at the time?

I love the style of the game (organized track racing with real supercars and tracks) but the errors and flaws listed above break it.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible game continues

Pros: Much better lineup of cars, and actual race tracks.

Cons: This game tries SO hard to be a simulation driver that it's horrible. EA throws another bad game under the once great NFS title. Drifting is so horrible, and the "body roll" is so exaggerated you end up wiggling down the track trying to correct it. Upgrades are extremely basic.

Other Thoughts: If you want a good racing game for 360, get Forza 2 or 3, MUCH better games. The last great game under the NFS name was Most Wanted, but Carbon was good too. Prostreet, and Undercover are 2 of THE ABSOLUTE WORST racing games in the world and Shift is just above that. Even at the reduced price it's not worth it. Figured I'd give it a try for the cheaper price, but wish I didn't.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Game

Pros: I think it's a revolution in "Cabin View", it is so realistic that you really feel that you are in the car.

Cons: At the end you will need to drive 30 laps, that is where I gave up

4 out of 5 eggsGreat game

Pros: Many cars to choose from
Many different tracks to choose from
enjoyable to play and I dont feel it is a 24-48 hour game. You get it and beat it in 24-48 hours and then sits on the shelf. Physics of the game is getting better and better. Meaning it is more life like IE: cant do 100mph and make a 90 degree turn. But still has the thrill of going fast!

Cons: There are portions of the game that all you have to do is run at full throttle and bounce off the walls to win which isnt fun for me but MOST of the game is not like that.
I gave it four out of five because there is room for improvement with the game

Other Thoughts: I have loved NFS products since the CDi phillips days. I do miss that quality of the game with the interaction back then, but I like this one for that constant levels of improvement and you dont just grab the most expensive car and run and win. Like some games you grab the biggest gun and the game is over **BORING**
I would like to see more with in the game with specific cars. Possible times where you log into the game and it's corolla days or Jetta 24 hour le mans or something random

5 out of 5 eggsSHIFT IT!!!

Pros: Possibly the best racing game i have played to date, not a short game guaranteed to keep you busy for days, cars are great and graphics are amazing very detailed

Cons: not hard enough after you get to the 4th tear of cars there powerful enough and upgradeable enough to get 1st place in every race on the hardest difficulty.

another con is all the bad reviews such a grate game is getting

Other Thoughts: you can get up to lvl 50 once you get into the teen levels (13+) you will start leveling very slowly witch makes for a fun long lasting game that you wont be board with after 6 hours

4 out of 5 eggstrue racing sim

Pros: Graphics are a hit, tracks are amazing, sleek cars, amazing phisics... to a certain point

Cons: not enough cars, game could be more challenging, could be longer, could have smoother phhysics

Other Thoughts: To all of you who say this game is bad... get a life, you all all probably still play gran turismo 3, get a real game... this is probably the most realistic racing game you can get. I would like to see you all ram a car at +100 MPH and not lose control of your car... i want to see you try to quickly force your steering wheel of a 300+ horse car into a turn. this is truely a racing game at their best.... i hope they continue making track racing sims like this because what i've seen im dropping some racing games just for this

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: It looks good, the changes of interior as you upgrade the car are a nice touch, body kits look somewhat accurate. Crash effect is cool (blurring and whatnot).

Cons: The game itself is impossible. Even on normal settings, I find it difficult to maintain a lead; at the beginning, all seems well; the car handling is fairly accurate, it's fun, if a bit finicky. The further along you get, though, the worse the game gets. Opponent cars don't deviate from their path even is you ram them at 100+ MPH, If your car touches a bumper (common in real racing), hold on because you're about to slide uncontrollably into a wall, enemy cars that underclass you can fly by you as if on rails, cars tend to hop around corners, they may become unseated for any reason without so much as a tire skid to warn you're losing traction, if you become airborne you bounce like a basketball when you land (you shouldn't become airborne about half the time on the game anyway, but apparently that huge spoiler and splitter don't provide enough down force, go figure), corner mastery is a joke, far too many points are needed to advance levels, drifting physics are terrible, (cont. below)

Other Thoughts: Crash blurring quickly becomes annoying, and is not standardized; if you brush a wall or hit it head on, the effect seems random. If you use the racing line, You'll quickly notice it's not not reactive, brakes may occasionally not work. Save yourself the headache and buy a different racing game.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Garbage

Pros: Great graphics, car models, in-car driving view

Cons: The single biggest factor in a driving game is how well the cars handle. In the first level, with slow cars, they feel fairly accurate and the game is fun. After the first level the car handling skids off a cliff and explodes into flames. The pavement might as well be ice the way the car slides around (but the AI cars are on rails and fly past you without any ill effects). Collisions are a joke and the AI cars apparently have 10x the mass that your car has. I won't even begin to discuss the mess that is the drifting model.

Other Thoughts: I sold this after 2 weeks of pure frustration and will never buy a Need For Speed title again without first trying it out.

1 out of 5 eggsBeta game

Pros: Great graphics, car modability, several camera positions, realistic crashes

Cons: Game feels like it's still a beta. Was this amateur night at the EA NFS dev department? The grass/dirt/sand has more traction than the pavement. Hitting an AI car is like hitting a tank. If you hit one, prepare to go into the wall. If they hit you, prepare to go into the wall. Viper Vs. GT race is unplayable. During the zo6 invitational race, should you flip an AI zo6, it will be in the middle of the road in the exact spot you flipped it. If you attempt to miss it and hit the grass, you'll likely get pulled off the road and into a wall. If you accidentally hit it, you come to a full stop immediately. The TCS is a joke. Teir 1 is healthy competition, but teir 2 gets harder. Teir 3 is impossible. When you attempt to download content from the LIVE markteplace it sends you to the PSN (double u tee eff EA?).

This game is absolute garbage and I hate that I only recieved $23 back from gamestop for this purchase. EA owes me the rest of my money and my wasted time.

Other Thoughts: Between driving their madden franchise and now their NFS franchise into the ground, it'll be a miracle if they can continue to produce anything people will buy.

I don't personally play sports games, but I've a friend who said the latest madden game had cheaters galore and bugs to boot.

I won't buy another EA game without renting first. This company is turning into a bad joke.
