DOOM 3: BFG Edition features DOOM 3 and the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack, both of which have been completely re-mastered. The package also includes hours of new content -- seven new levels entitled "The Lost Mission."

This genre defining game and its expansion pack offers greatly enhanced graphics, deeply immersing the player in the demonic world of this terrifying horror masterpiece. Players will also experience a never-before-seen single-player story, The Lost Mission, featuring seven heart-pounding levels that will once again have them on the edge of their seats.

DOOM 3, Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission have been optimized in 3D, featuring 5.1 surround sound, improved rendering and lighting, and a new check point save system allowing for smoother progression through the game. id Software has fine-tuned the controls to bring the intensity of the DOOM single and multiplayer experience to the consoles, and DOOM 3 now features the new armor-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time. As a special bonus, DOOM 3 BFG Edition will also include the original DOOM and DOOM 2 games, making it the definitive collection of the revolutionary games developed by id Software.

  • newegg A collection edition The BFG Edition includes remastered versions of the 2004 first-person shooter, its 2005 expansion Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission, a new seven-mission pack. It also contains the original Doom and Doom II games, frequently cited as progenitors of the FPS genre.
  • newegg Enhanced changes Doom 3 and its expansion will receive a high-definition face-lift with new lighting and rendering as well as stereoscopic 3D support, 5.1 surround sound, and achievements and trophies for their respective consoles.
  • newegg A new checkpoint system and an armor-mounted flashlight The gameplay will also receive changes in the form of a new checkpoint system and an armor-mounted flashlight, allowing players to operate weaponry while simultaneously illuminating Doom 3's darkened environments. The previous version required players to shift back and forth between the handheld flashlight's visual awareness and the much heftier firepower of Doom's diverse arsenal--inspiring a "duct tape mod" to give players the best of both worlds.

Pros: Includes Doom 1 and Doom 2 as well. Having been an addict 20 years ago, I fell right back into it.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsFun throwback!

Pros: This is just an all around fun game. I just love the old school Doom and it's just as fun now as it was then. Playing it with surround sound really adds to the experience. Something you couldn't do in the 90's.

Cons: You can't enter any of the old cheat codes on the console games. There was an easter egg I wanted to see, but required the idclip cheat to get to. Graphics still look old school too. Still looks like it did in the 90's. 4:3 aspect ratio and all pixely looking, just like the original. It didn't look as bad as I thought it would on a giant HD screen though.

Other Thoughts: The original Doom games were way ahead of their time. The complexity of them is really impressive. I'd put them up against any modern 1st person shooter.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Great game brings back a lot of memorys

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The doom and doom II are based/share the same achievement title list as the arcade games listed on the xbox marketplace so if your an achievement hunter like my self realize that if you already have 200 of 200 gamerscore in the arcade game its the same with the disc

-Doom 3 and resurrection of evil also have and share achievements lists

4 out of 5 eggspretty good port

Pros: -good graphics
-lengthy singleplayer
-doom 1&2 included
-multiplayer
-fun experience

Cons: -sudden auto saves
-no co-op
-too easy on lower difficulties
-multiplayer is lacking
-you cant install doom1&2 to the HDD

Other Thoughts: For $30 i had a blast playing through doom 3, there's a lot of content here but if you already played it on the pc there's really no reason to play it again on consoles regardless of the new 7 lost missions. Even the PC version i'd say isn't worth it if you've played the original version to death.

3 out of 5 eggsBaffingly incomplete, but still great.

Pros: *Doom, Doom II, and Doom 3 w/expansion and new content on one low priced disc.
*HD reskin, while not up to today's standards, still an improvement over previous console version of Doom 3.
*Doom 3 is still a fun and reasonably startling experience.
*Additional content, despite reusing some level elements from the core game, is fun and extends the experience. Some of it has never been released previously.
*Autosaves save a lot of frustration and tedium.

Cons: *Flashlight no longer casts dynamic shadows, despite other light sources in the game doing so (including NPC lights, such as that of the scientist who guides you through one area and the robot sentries.) Detrimentally impacts the "haunted house" look and feel of the original version, making it slightly less of a scary experience.
*Flashlight being equip-able along with weapons cuts down on the tension and fear considerably. No option to play without this change.
*I've played Amnesia: The Dark Descent since Doom 3 hit PC and console eight years ago. Together with the aforementioned lack of dynamic shadows from the flashlight and ability to have it equipped at all times, the scare factor of this version of Doom 3 suffers considerably compared to Amnesia and other subsequent, scarier gaming experiences.
*In one of the most inexplicable technical flaws I've ever in a modern game, installing the game completely prevent the ability play Doom and Doom II. You must uninstall the game and run them from the disc.
*No Final Doom or Ultimate Doom. They had the opportunity to make the ultimate Doom package, and at a higher price point, but they didn't take it. (Final or Ultimate Doom content on Xbox Live Arcade would be welcome, too. Please take note, Id and Bethesda!)

Other Thoughts: The inability to play Doom and Doom II from HDD is completely baffling and unacceptable, considering that both games are also available on Xbox Live Arcade and can clearly be run from the HDD. This should definitely have been worked out before release. It is absolutely unreasonable to expect customers to uninstall a game to play two major parts of its content, when the other main part can be played from the HDD just fine. It makes no sense whatsoever.

That said, despite the game being less scary today than it was eight years ago, and despite these bothersome flaws, it's still a highly enjoyable and creepy game experience, and you're getting a lot of content for a very good price.

In particular if you've never played Doom 3 before, you owe it to yourself to check this out. I recommend PC over console if you can run it, but if like me you can't, the console version is more than competent, some minor and inexplicable issues notwithstanding.
