When the first ever Tomb Raider game launced in 1996 it was a revolution. Oustanding in terms of graphics, gameplay, and storyline , it changed the way that video games were played and developed forever. Fronting the games assault on the world was the central character, Lara Croft. Lara was also to have an incredible impact, quickly becoming the most recognized and celebrated female action heroine and an icon for the video games industry. The game is such an amazing visual experience Voice acting for Lara. Every grunt and groan as she experiences pure hell sounds horrifying (in the way they intended) Camera. It's been said before that the camera is rarely, if ever, a problem in this game. Cons: Story - It's a pretty generic story. With every form of media having some sort of swerve, the one that occurred in this game was fully expected by myself and my roommates, and fell flat when it happened. "Linear" gameplay. The story itself allows you time to explore, but the game itself was incredibly linear, rarely deviating from a fixed path. Maybe it's because I was spoiled by Mass Effect 1 and 2, the fact that nothing you do in the game changes the aspect of the story, it devalues the game to limited replayability. Once you've beaten the game once, there's not much else to do. Multiplayer - I've had limited experiences with it, but from what I experienced, I'm not a fan. It was your generic multiplayer mode that is done better in other games (namely sandbox games like Red Dead Redemption, Saints Row 2, or Grand Theft Auto 4). The side tombs were embarrassingly simple. Most of them you could figure out as you're approaching. Other Thoughts: It's a great game, certainly worth a weekend rental to experience. The amount of polish is great. The game was fun while it lasted. I felt for Lara as she went through hell and back to survive. Not a bad game, I just hope they expand the sequels in the future with branching story paths, more cerebral tombs, or something to up the lack of replay value. Did you find this review helpful? While you're on this site, get some uber pc parts to upgrade your system to be able to play this game. I have an i7-3770K and a GTX 670 FTW and I can turn everything up to about 90-95% with about 40-50 fps and the game looks absolutely astounding. Silky smooth graphics. Graphics are top notch, gameplay is fantastic, story line is also really good! Cons: The game is kinda of short but with lots of thing to do though! Other Thoughts: This game is a great entry an in my opinion the best Tomb Raider game ever made! The new Lara Croft look is amazing she is beautifully designed! Great animations. I really cared about her in the game and your survival instincts would kick in while playing the game! But if she gets killed there are some cool great scenes showing the dead sequence.
