Love it or hate it?
- Pros: Sound quality, somewhat easy to install (look below for how to rub both hdmi and this headset at the same time), game volume and chat volume can be increased/decreased independently, padded ear pieces
- Cons: kind of sucks if you still wanted to use hdmi, cable is a bit annoying, cable to the controller looks weak and from other reviews it is
- Other Thoughts: So I read a bunch of reviews and some people slammed this headset for not having the sound quality others do... but for < $50 can you really blame it. Look if you want top quality sound then be ready to shell out >$150. Either way, my xbox runs off HDMI (and I like it that way) so installing this was a bit of a pain. A quick search on youtube will get your answer and it works great.
Good Enough
- Pros: This is a Great upgrade from the headsets included with the 360. Intergrated sound and voice is also a plus. The wires are long enough to go anywhere in your gaming area. also works with pc gaming which is a definite plus aswell. The ability to block outside sound is very well too.
- Cons: not as good as it's wireless brother and soon becomes a tangled mess. The integrated sound with voice can be good but when your teammate is yelling "Guy behind You" but you can't hear because the bunker your in is getting bombarded it kind of gets annoying. The big padding is nice for 1-2 hours of play, but long nights at LAN parties can make the padding hot, sweating and just plain annoying.
- Other Thoughts: For what it is, and the price it still deserves 4 eggs
overall ok
- Pros: long cord
usb extension cable mute led lights red when muted, lights green when not compatible with both pc and xbox fits my 25 inch XXL head (barely) two volume knobs. one where your thumb would be (game voice volume), the other where your mute button is half way up your cable
decent sound isolation from headset
comfortable
picks up your voice better than ms or plantronics xbox headset.
nice adjustable flex boom
sound is decent
- Cons: although there is decent sound isolation from the headset, in this case it can be a bad thing, because for some reason they made this so your voice is NOT coming into your own headset. so invariably you're stuck guessing what you sound like when you talk. you know how deaf people sound funny because they can't hear their own voice as a reference? well, this is kind of the same thing to me. i find myself always going out of my way to not be stupid and talk extra loud (like most would) but in my attempt to speak at a reasonable volume i'm sure i sound like a dork at times.
mute switch is very hard to get to. u know how xbox's standard issue headset has it where your thumb is? and plantronics has it half way up the cable but at least they have a clip on the back so u can put it on your shirt for semi quick access? well, turtle beach has it up their cable with no clip. so if you're a considerate player that has to get to mute fast cuz u have to cough, you're out of
- Other Thoughts: Cons continuted:
cheap looking / feeling for a big headset
annoying packaging
the part that plugs into the controller is very weak and with minimal knocking (which is very easy to do) i guarantee you'll break it. just a horrible cheap design where the cable meets the controller. not to mention no mute button on this part either
not surround
inexcusable to not hear your own voice in the headset. that just kills it for me and proves to me these aren't made by people that know what it's like to play games online. the biggest plus for turtle beach is the lack of competition in this market. imo that's the only thing that allows them to survive
