4 out of 5 eggsDecent Phone

Pros: 1. Phone well packaged; contained phone, AC adapter (USB), USB cable with micro USB connector, Serial Number card, User manuals.
2. Prompt shipping
3. Standard Android app menu
4. Wireless, Maps (GPS) and music work fine.

Cons: 1. Takes some experimentation to get phone up and running.
2. Older Android OS (2.3) vs. 4.x series for current phones.

Other Thoughts: I have used Tracfone phones since 2004; this is my first Android phone (I do have an Android tablet). I had Googled reviews of the phone before buying. I could see how someone might have problems setting up the phone. A note of caution - if you live a zip code, as I do, that doesn't have a good G4 signal, you may get frustrated activating the phone. I worked around the Tracfone rejection by picking a zipcode (a big town nearby) that I thought would have a good signal. If you have to call Tracfone service for help, you may get frustrated; some of their reps are difficult to understand sometimes. To setup the phone, you will need to buy an airtime card. I started out with the 60 minute card for $19.95. With the 3x multiplier for this phone, you actually get 180 minutes each for talk, text, and web. The phone came with a 4GB micro SD card which I removed. I installed a FSkill 32GB micro SD card that I had purchased earlier. I was able to load music onto the card and play. Be sure you read the instruction manuals carefully. If you want to download related info for the phone, go to LG site for the LGL38C support by Googling "LG Optimus Dynamic LGL38C".

A caveat. If you already have a Tracfone, you will likely be unable the phone number. I am using this phone for experimentation, thus I just picked a place with a different area code.

The phone works great. Good luck and be patient if you do buy this phone. Realize it has an earlier Android 2.3 system. Also realize you aren't paying the big bucks for all the bells and whistles of the recent phones.

3 out of 5 eggsA little too low end

Pros: This LG/Tracfone L38C would have been a fabulous low end cellphone two years ago.

Cons: Too little, too late. Old Android (v. 2.3). While the single core Qualcomm CPU appears to be respectable for the price at 800 MHz, the real problem is that the integrated GPU is very low performing.

Not really a con of this unit, but just understand that the entire low end Android cellphone market has certain restrictions. As with all low end Androids, the camera is fixed focus with no flash. No Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth 3.0 is supported), so no pairing a low end Android of any make or model with heart rate monitors, bicycle sensors, etc. Similarly, the USB port is limited to charging and to accessing the phones memory when plugged into a computer. You can't plug an external flash drive or other USB dongle into the port. Those roles require a USB port that can function as a host, also known as USB To Go or UTG. Only higher end Android phones have that.

Other Thoughts: The included card will give you 600 minutes of phone time and 600 texts and 600 MB of data. However, your phone number will only be good for 90 days. So you still need to buy a one year airtime card. The price for a Tracfone one year airtime card is completely standardized and is never discounted, although you save on sales tax when you buy your airtime card directly through the Tracfone website. For about the same total bundle price, consider investigating a different bundle. Hint, think quality and value, then think of a cable TV channel. That will get you a much upgraded LG/Tracfone 39C, plus a free case and a free car charger. Compared to this L38C, the L39C has Android 4.1 and a Qualcomm CPU with much better integrated graphics. However, all of the generic low end Android restrictions that I listed above still apply.

3 out of 5 eggsWhy do vendors do this?

Pros: It looks like a good deal.

Cons: I see this line in the description. Does this make ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER??

" Call over 100 international destinations at no extra cost! A minute is still a minute! (U.S. based calls only. Phones do not work internationally.) "

Answer: NO! Get it straight. First you say you can use Intl then in the very next sentence you say you can't. STOP BEING STUPID.

Other Thoughts: None
