  • newegg A Universe of Entertainment at Your Fingertips Samsung's new Media Hub app brings all-star entertainment to the Galaxy S smartphones and the Galaxy Tab. • newegg Smart Phones with Superior Speed One of the most important parts of a smart phone is its processor, which is responsible for running all those cool applications lesser phones can’t handle. A good one handles a multitude of functions without sacrificing speed. New phones like the Samsung Galaxy S series offer powerful processors with never-before-seen speeds.
  • newegg Google Android OS Explained Android is an open source platform that turns your phone into a powerful web browser, game console, and personal assistant all in one. Android uses a fun, easy interface to organize and manage applications on some of the world’s most powerful phones. In fact, carrying around an Android phone is like having a pint-sized laptop right in your pocket.
  • newegg A New Era in AMOLED Technology What good is having a smartphone if your screen fades in sunlight—or if you can’t see a great picture on an angle? The type of screen you have affects your experience. A Super AMOLED screen is an entirely new way to experience the content you like glare-free screen and with brilliant images.
  • newegg Get a Longer Battery Life A phone that runs out of power quickly can be frustrating. A brighter screen might mean more power consumption in some phones with LCD displays, but Super AMOLED screens like the one found in the Samsung Galaxy S series, actually save battery life. Each pixel is its own light source, so black pixels aren’t lit, and use no energy. You get better contrast, lower power consumption and 20% more battery life than conventional screens. Watch movies and play music longer, and shoot continuous video without having to stop and recharge.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdating

Pros: Lots of memory. Fast

Cons: Unable to update firmware. Samsung rep at Best Buy tried for an hour but the updating software would not recognize the phone. Possibly due to being too outdated. 2 phones with same problem.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: Big-ish screen, Metal case, back cover lock is very good, the way its designed makes it so it never comes off even when dropped. Android based so jail breaking is easy and helpful to get rid of the bloat ware.

Cons: So after having this phone for a long time it has had some definite downsides. The only fix for this is to turn off the search button in the code of the phone.
- The search button is messed up. I repeatedly presses itself whenever it pleases, To get it to stop i have to lock the phone, i usally wipe the screen/buttons in hopes that helps then unlock it. This is probably the biggest annoyances i have ever had with a phone.
- The phone turns off when ever it wants, there is an issue with the CPU voltage that kicks the phone off. This is what i have read anyway, there is an App that will basically fix this but it shouldn't need one.
-A small annoyance is that sometimes the phone lags and read inputs for a couple seconds late up to maybe 10 seconds sometimes.

Other Thoughts: The two cons stated are the worst thing about the phone but in all they aren't deal breakers. I have had my phone for about 2 years and I have just dealt with it, the app to keep it alive helps a bunch but the search button is so bad, I haven't disabled it because i don't know the API for the platform. These problems are in many of the captivates but not all.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I was able to use the SIM card from my ST smart phone and the phone functions worked without any modification. All I had to do to get the data working was to define an APN which ST has instructions for on their web site.

This isn't the first touch screen phone that I've had but it is the first one that I've had that I can honestly say is awesome. The on screen keyboard works very well and the AMOLED display is gorgeous. Apps start very quickly and run smoothly.

The camera takes very good pics for a phone camera especially considering that there is no flash. There are a lot of setting to control the exposure depending on the lighting situation. The pics load onto the micro SD card pretty quickly but be sure to get a Class 10 micro SD card. It works very well with a barcode scanning app.

This is my first Android phone and I'm so very impressed. Compared to all the other "smart" phone OSs that I've used this is so simple to work with. I might actually use this one for a w

Cons: No flash for the camera.
Battery life could be better but I think its not too bad compared to other large screen (4") smart phones.

Other Thoughts: Mine came with Android OS 2.3 installed, USB cable, AC adaptor, ear buds with 2 spare sets of covers, battery and a quick start guide. It was very well packaged and had no blemishes on it at all.

There are ATT apps that I can't use because I'm on the ST network and unfortunately, I can't uninstall them but that's not a big deal. Its an excellent phone at a great price.

4 out of 5 eggstext issue

Pros: It updates to 2.3, big screen makes my iPhone friends say "Wow..."

Cons: Samsung sharing software is clunky with my Samsung TV. Havent gotten it to work properly

Other Thoughts: Hey Andy! You'll probably never see this, but I have found I only get the text issue if I go to texts through the notification drop down. If you hit Home, and tap the messaging icon they shouldn't mess up.

I also empty my inbox often, seemd to help.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Phone is easy to navigate. Love how I can add and update easily.

Cons: Text messaging feature not working properly. Go to reply to a text and when I hit send, screen will change and send message to a different person. Reset phone over 10 times and only corrects problem 24-48 hours. Called store umpteen times as well.

Other Thoughts: Other than the texting problem, I love my phone. Store cannot fix problem and it started acting up after warranty expired. Go figure!
