5 out of 5 eggsN96 is the best

Pros: Where should I start. Complete package...
This is a camera, camcorder, micro pocket computer... with great quality in one device.
I saved a lot instead of buying each camera etc separately and I am not sacrefizing the quality with 5 MEGA PIXEL camera with flash...
and this is what I have discovered so far, still lot more to do with this. I feel like I have to get a diploma on how to use this device with all this great futures and capabilities.

Cons: It is only a bit tight for text-ing...

2 out of 5 eggsWARNING! BUY THE N95 8GB INSTEAD

Pros: -Nice menu transition and more eye-candy due to the update in the operating system (Symbian OS 9.3 S60 rel. 3.2)
-Slightly better slider mechanism compared to the N95-8GB.

Cons: -Battery doesn't last even 1-day with moderate usage (some access to the internet, some calls, couple of text messages, and some photos, no apps running in the background)
-Keys in the front are very tricky, very small for a man's fingers. Top row of the numeric pad is very difficult to reach.
-Doesn't charge through the USB port.
-Speakers do not provide as sharp and clear sound as in N95 8GB.
-Camera shutter key has the worst press feedback.
-Battery cover is not very sturdy. It makes "creaking" noise when it is held on hand.
-It randomly restarts when there is an incoming call. When this happes, it erases the mailbox settings for the email, it erases all the MMS, EMAIL, and TXT messages.
-Keypad light seeps out through the spaces between each keys. At night, it looks horrible because of this.
-Picture gallery is SLOOOOOOOOOW! When you have more than about 20 pics, it's faster to transfer the files to the computer and seeing them there than waiting for it to load.

Other Thoughts: I bought this phone with the hope that Nokia had improved in some of the weaknesses that the N95 8GB had, however, this phone is a total failrure. This is the 4th Nokia phone that I had, and I'm aware of the poor build quality of Nokia phones, but this one is the worst of all!

Everyone, please do me a favor... Don't waste your hard-earned money on this piece of s*** like I did.

5 out of 5 eggsGood phone if you know what you want.

Pros: - Large internal storage + expandable microSD slot gives you as much memory as you can possibly expect on a portable phone right now.

- Good call quality.

- Excellent camera for a phone. In good light the pictures and video are as good or better than could be expected.

- OS overall is quick and intuitive. It is easy to install third party apps from your computer to your phone.

Cons: - Absurdly poor PC software to go with it. It makes it very difficult (though not impossible) to sync your device or move media easily.

- Camera lacks any sort of stabilization. Not necessarily something to be expected in a phone, but it's something to keep in mind if you don't have steady hands.

- The OS at times can error, particularly when opening large media files. Not good, but it's not excessive.

- WiFi set up is not easy at all.

Other Thoughts: If the thought ever entered your head to buy a phone made by Apple, don't buy this phone. If you considered wanting a touchscreen, don't buy this phone. If you are looking for a feature packed phone that isn't flashy or gimmicky, get this phone. If you are expecting an iPhone you won't like it, if you are expecting an N96 then it gets five eggs.

3 out of 5 eggsOk

Pros: Just so you know I'm coming from an Iphone 3g. I love the fact of a 5mp camera, great pictures, great video. I love the overall looks and features. Sound is amazing and can get really loud, tons of space built into it, easy to use (in some aspects see cons), battery life is better than my iphone was and could be better but that can be solved by a new 1200-1400mah battery so that's not really to bad. This phone gives me the best signal I've ever had and I'm up on a mountain half a year and it responds very fast and gives perfect signal when others have none. Phone call quality is really good and better than anything I've ever owned so far.

Cons: Now I might seem like it's really bad but it's just all the problems I've ran into and I'm sure others might not have these problems but this is my review on it. The overall feel of the phone is cheap, the back which holds to battery in feels like you'll break right through it and is extremely cheap, buttons can be hard to press on the front, not enough space between the 1,2, and 3 keys and the other half of the phone making it a little hard, crashes constantly, music with the head phones plugged in seem to mess up on random songs, WLAN wizard and setup is a joke, OS can be hard to get used to at times, Browser really isn't very good but coming from an Iphone I expected this much, camera button should only have to be pressed once and not held (That's why key lock should be there for), usb doesn't charge phone so it sucks to have it somewhere else and you can't charge it from your computer, two ways to slide but front panel has Play, stop, skip buttons on front? Redundant? No apps?

Other Thoughts: I gave it a 3 cause I bought it here and got a free Jawbone with it but overall the features are good but they don't seem to out way the cons and problems that this phone has imo and there are better phones out there, let alone no touch screen? I'm going to be selling this phone and looking at getting the Nokia N97. Search it up because that phone is going to be way better and solve so many problems that this one has as well as a touch screen. So I think the new black N95 8gb is better than this but if you are looking for a good phone this is still good but for the price the N95 gives you the same thing rather than spend more for nothing really different

4 out of 5 eggsA Good phone

Pros: Ok the good
The new OS is nice. Overall the phone responds quicky. Using it as a phone, I have had no problems. Using as a computer, I have found a few things that bug me, but most could easly be fixed with a software update. (keep that in mind when reading the cons).

Bascly this phone will do just about any thing you would need from a hand held device. with a bit of software.

The options for connecting to A PC are nice though. you can map a remote drive, or with a USB connection the phone itself gives you differnt connection options, to sync media, use as an external HDD, connect to controll software ect.

Best picures and video I have seen from a cell phone. may not replace your 10 MP digi cam, but will make a great alternitive when you do not have it on you.

Cons: Ok this is going to be alot, most of these are software issues that may be fixed even when you read this.

No accelerometer API is avalibe yet, so only nokia apps can use that feature at all.

GPS can connect any where at any time. But Maps though requier the use of the internet, as does address lookup (you can install tomtom software to get arround this.)

Radio, the FM radio reciver ONLY uses FM stations provided by your wireless service provder (none for me). So your only choice is internet radio . . . which requiers a data connection.

The music player is not automatic. It has media controlls on the fron, and on the slider (redundant much?) but neither one is set to start a player. they do nothing uless you mainly start a player first)

E-mail and other apps ask you every step if you want to connect, and to which connection. To send an e-mail I used my US/PW 3 times. That is a bit much. Cache that info.

Other Thoughts: all the items in CONS are as mentioned software. the only real hardware issues I can find are

1 GPS connection is a bit "iffy" (as with most all GPS)

2 The battery is not robust enugh for this phone. In normal light usage it will last fine. But I need to be caful what all I use. wifi and bluetooth suck power. using the wireless connection will drain the phone in under 6 hours. where as I can turn on blue tooth for 1.5 hours a day (commute) and have the phone on normal for my 12 hour shift, and it only looses 1 bar of charge. So good for normal use, but not for the power user, if you use features alot, get a 2nd batter, or use the car charger alot (Included).

3) this is just personal, but I do not like the placement of the media bution.

4 out of 5 eggsUprade or Downgrade

Pros: The Nokia N96 is a nice phone that can do anything you might think up or ever want to do. If you're traveling the turn by turn GPS will take you anywhere you want to go. If want take good quality pictures or shoot pretty good video, (great for the web) it can do that too. This phone can also act as a mobile HOTSPOT, the other day I had 7 notebooks all at once using it as a mobile wifi hotspot, (using a 3G connection). It worked flawlessly, and everyone that was using it said they couldn't believe that a phone could do that. As I said this phone can do just about anything you need, and I am not kidding about that. Also it has16 GIG's of internal storage with microSD slot that can handle another card up 16 GIG's so you will always have plenty of storage.

Cons: Battery is to small for this phone. Coming from a N95 8GIG, I was hoping that Nokia would have provided at least the same power resources in N96 but that is not the case. Music Player (continues play, full charge) N96 3 hours 32 minutes, N95 8GIG 4 hours 53 minutes. Internet Radio (continues play, 32kb stream, full charge) N96 3 hours 04 minutes, N95 8GIG 4 hours 36 minutes, talk time (full charge, 3G) N96 2 hours 11 minutes, N95 8GIG 5 hours 44 minutes, all of the above tests were done on fully charged phone's and the time's were tracked with a program that monitored the times until each phone turned its self off due to the battery being empty. Other quicks, You cannot download all file types using the embedded web browser. For example, say you want to download a (*.MSI, *.EXE, *.RAR) and store it on your memory card, you cannot, the web browser won't allow it. But you can use a a 3rd party program to accomplish that but that's really a pain and one shouldn't have to do that...

Other Thoughts: The N96 is a stylish phone loaded with all kinds of useful gadgets that can help any person that is always on the go stay connected and will definitely help you stay organized. But in may ways it is a downgrade from the Nokia N95 8 GIG especially during video play back and as I explained, battery resources are just awful. If your going to buy one, get it from Newegg, because they will always treat you right...
