1 out of 5 eggsDesign flaw

Pros: Separate physical keyboard for those who prefer that option with touch screen too. Screen is nice size and decent resolution. Works well on T-Mobile network. Easy to upgrade OS to Bella (last and latest). Limited number of overall Symbian apps do work well and are free or low price. Nokia hardware is top notch except for the design flaw listed below.

Cons: The micro usb port on the E7 phone will definitely break over time. It;s not attached to interior motherboard well. As the port loosens, it will be harder and harder to get the phone to charge. Remember, the battery is non-removable and wireless charging is not an option.

Other Thoughts: I also have a Nokia N8 (two different charging ports which include micro usb) and Nokia N9 (micro usb charging port). Both of them do not have the design flaw of usb charging port not being properly reinforced to interior motherboard. Actually replaced the first E7 just before warranty expired and received replacement after lots of grief. Silver model was not available but the blue replacement developed the same charging port issue even after plugging and unplugging the phone very carefully. Definitely a design flaw and others online post the same issue. Very unhappy and wonder if Nokia will replace the replacement with another model. I doubt it and therefore people should not buy this model. In case you are wondering, Newegg does not handle the warranty but refers you to Nokia. Rating of one egg because of charging port issue.

4 out of 5 eggsSymbian

Pros: I don't own the Nokia E7 but I have a Nokia N8 and a Nokia 808. The N8 originally ran Symbian ^3 and was subsequently updated to first Anna and then Belle while the 808 came with Belle out of the box.
The E7 is similar to the N8 except that the N8 has no physical keyboard and a much better camera and a microSD slot. All these phones are pentaband GSM phones meaning they will work with nearly all GSM networks in the world including AT&T and T-Mobile.
Nokia's GPS application is outstanding (with free maps world wide). I would recommend these phones for use with a prepaid plan and for international travel (internationally the phone can be used as a hot-spot with a free app.

Cons: If you need more than standard apps (like Skype) this phone is not for you. Symbian Belle is a fine operating system but ...
No LTE. If you want to use the phone just in the US then you will probably be better off buying an unlocked, more recent Android, Windows or iOS phone.

Other Thoughts: If you want to get the best camera currently available then go for the Nokia PureView 808 instead. If you just want a simple, cheap unlocked GSM phone for use within the US and if you do not need GPS then avoid Nokia. If you travel internationally or if you need a cheap secondary phone and if you don't mind the lack of LTE then the E7 might be a great option.

1 out of 5 eggsNokia and Symbian

Pros: *I own a Nokia E71*
- Phone part works

Cons: Stay away from the Nokia/Symbian combo. I have had my E71 for over a year. I have contacted Nokia several times and have been told there is no update for the OS.

I suggest getting a phone with the Android OS.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent hardware, fiddly user experience

Pros: Build quality is extremely high. When I've shown my E7 to friends and coworkers they are blown away by the clever keyboard and touch screen. They want something similar, but Symbian^3 or Symbian Anna is just too different from what they are used to having. Having said that, here are the pros: illuminated keyboard, outstanding voice reproduction, excellent texting capabilities, availability of Swype allows for true one-handed operation, USB on-the-go, Clear Black Display, you can upgrade from Symbian^3 to Symbian Anna - and Anna really improves the stability of the device. Built in GPS and free maps, the full QuickOffice suite, mass storage encryption (well, it'll delay yahoos), and the minimum version of F-Secure's Mobile Security. Antivirus & Firewall apps are available, as is a VPN solution, although the VPN client may not be compatible with your infrastructure. Screen characters are large enough for "over 40" eyes.

Cons: The cons are: Nokia has announced End of Life for Symbian, so the amount of apps available to the E7 is probably not going to change much. Your bank or airline probably won't have an app for your device, so you have to use a browser. Using the native browser or a third party browser can sometimes cause problems with Flash-heavy sites. The keyboard is hard to use if a person has arthritic thumbs. No support for a micro SD card, and the battery is sealed into the device. Symbian has a lot of options and the options are buried all over the place. It's easy to set one and have a negative result and forget where to find the setting to undo it. My unit arrived loaded with Symbian^3. My carrier has just made Symbian Anna available so I downloaded and installed it without a problem. However, the time needed to perform the update was about an hour. I needed to update Symbian^3 with several patches then I could upgrade to Symbian Anna, and then apply Anna's patches.

Other Thoughts: I tried this device on T-Mobile's and AT&T's network. The device worked fine on both networks. For the AT&T network I used a GoPhone pay-as-you-go SIM and bought a "non smartphone" data plan (about $5 for 10MB).

You can't charge the device and use a thumb drive at the same time because the E7 uses the micro-USB port for charging.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic phone, and price

Pros: Fantastic quality keypad and screen. I love having a mini computer in my pocket. See reviews at AllAboutSymbian and other sites for details. Syncs to my home and work desktop via Ovi (now Nokia Suite Beta) perfectly. Some users complain of glitches but others find that a hard reset and taking some care to not install problem apps will have it running well, as does mine.

Cons: Canadian purchase of this phone gets me a product code 059F6L8: RM-626, which is "CV_North_America_US_Blue". Still no update to Anna. I must be last on the list.

Other Thoughts: This thing is strong and capable and I expect to have it for many years.
