Disclaimer

Disclaimer
Please read the product description carefully for all unlocked cell phones.

Some unlocked cell phones sold by Newegg may have previously been locked to a specific carrier. A carrier-locked cell phone may often have carrier-specific applications and branding. Some of these applications cannot be unlocked and/or may not function with a different carrier. Also, applications requiring a data plan may result in data usage charges from the original carrier.

In addition, the cell phone box may arrive unsealed and the cell phone may appear previously handled. The unlocking procedure requires unsealing the box and manually handling the cell phone. In this case, the cell phone should not be considered "tampered with" or "defective".

4 out of 5 eggsread 3G info for cell carrier

Pros: phone works as branded
features work well on the branded network
my T Mobl version works well on the T Mobl network
Opera Mini works exceptionally well on this

Cons: Beware. NOOEFG allows the miixing up of the reviews for different versions or "brands" of MB502 charm phones here. Simple network is not same as T Mobile

Other Thoughts: My Charm was branded for T Mobile. It works well enough on TM This vendor sells this fone occasionally and gives a bit more warning now than in the past about branding and unlocking. But if it does not say your carrier I would NOT assume it works on your carrier. I bought a Saphire cell from here and descrip said T Mobl but it would not work on T Mobl In fact I have not seen anything but bronze color for the T Mob 3G branded charms. This done was sold for TM and other carriers. The boot loader is locked by Motorola I would not buy it unless it listed my carrier network by name. Different reviews show different results because NOOEFG lists this as same phone regardless of branding. Buyer beware

4 out of 5 eggsentry level smarts

Pros: works for t-mobile. better than an iphone 1 and faster, too

good wifi reception. ez to get rhapsody, facebook apps working

youtube functionality. intuitive phone

Cons: you have to bypass the motoblur crapola

Other Thoughts: don't buy if you don't have t-mobile unless you want thorns in your side. this phone is best if you want to surf over wifi and stay away from data plans and stick with prepaid go

4 out of 5 eggs[Updated] not 3G

Pros: Works in Telcel, but only in 850 MHz
(read the other review)

Cons: Not 3G in Telcel Mexico

Other Thoughts: Tmobile uses 850/1700/2100 MHz Bands
but Telcel (mexico) uses 850/1900 MHJz
I dont know if the hardware can use the other bands, but by software can't use the band of 1900 MHz, so i cant get 3G in Mexico, may be a custom ROM or a modfied baseband file can do the trick
only Edge/2G is working now

3 out of 5 eggsMeh.

Pros: Qwerty
compact
good browser

Cons: Battery life is lousy
Won't do 802.1x WiFi authentication
Can't get 3g data
occasional stalls

Other Thoughts: Others have claimed they got 3G to work on T-Mobile. I'm apparently out of luck. I hope Newegg lets me send this thing back, but I don't want another one with the same problem. Haven't tried rooting it, since it should have working 3G out of the box.

1 out of 5 eggsmotorola uncharming

Pros: none

Cons: eats battery in just a few hours, even with everything turned off and phone on standby only. even purchased new battery to make sure it wasn't defective. new battery drains in 3-5 hours also.

O.S. freezes frequently, deeming this phone junk. i've owned cheap chinese knockoff smart phones that operate more smoothly.

Other Thoughts: beware

5 out of 5 eggsPhone has all i require plus extras

Pros: solid feel qwerty keyboard.
fully T-Mobile supported account.
great feature set in an economical Android phone.
all operations are sufficiently responsive on this phone.

Cons: takes getting used to. you have to re-learn where things are, and how to navigate on the phone if you are familiar with a blackberry. some functions take more steps to execute - I am still teaching myself how to find function shortcuts and to streamline and improve steps for simple things like texting, emailing. Not recommended
for ATT accounts.

Other Thoughts: Could not be happer in my less than 130dollar phone. This thing has TMobile 3G (not ATT). There is an FM radio, Shoutcast internet radio, Slacker radio, dozens of apps, and access to the Android market, basic camera. It replaced my aging blackberry. The blackberry is an excellent phone, but I only paid 120 for this phone. Very very happy for what I got, what it does. I will replace this phone in a couple of years, with no regrets, an economical phone upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsslick little TMobile bberry upgrade

Pros: fone works great on T-Mobile network.
fine is an excellent upgrade from a T-Mob Blackberry 8320.
Caught this at a nice sale price of 120clams.
seems to be a solid - built motorola.
Great for what it does, replaces / upgrades my old Bberry 8320

Cons: The instruction manual was a complete joke. manual is not the "original" MB502 Motorola Charm manual for TMobile retail. Who writes the aftermarket manuals for unlocked cells? I bought a Blackjack II from Eggcellent, same thing, found a stupid non-original manual in the Samsung box. There must be a great market for original manuals.... Fortunately, Moto has good info on their website. Actually, a very good webpage.

Other Thoughts: Got a nice qwerty texting keyboard with an excellent android browser, media player. Perfectly made for T-Mobile. Got a nice upgrade from my aging Blackberry, lost no features, picked up a better more responsive browser, and nice media player. If you like social media (not me) this has a facebook app.

This came with an extended life battery and extended (thicker) battery cover. But Eggcellent does not spell out much in their online page about battery. Paltry "detail" info, pathetic really.

If you want a blackberry, get one. While they still exist. And, I would pass up this fone if you do not have T-Mobile.

Eclair on the phone, and it works fine. Live with it, throw the fone away in about 15-18 months. An upgrade path for this hardware, and at this pricepoint seems a foolish discussion.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to 3 egg review

Pros: used to be few, but now there are none

Cons: Phone keeps saying "SD card unexpectedly removed" or "Blank SD card" or "No SD card installed". Even when is says "Blank SD card" you cannot format it. I tried low level format SD card as someone suggested, I got a new card, nothing. Now my 8GB Transcend and 16 GB Kingston cards are useless. I have to constantly reboot the device to get few minutes of music listening, until problem starts again.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy Motorola again.

1 out of 5 eggsCaution - Do your research before you buy!

Pros: Cheap Android based device.
Probably good if you have T-Mobile.

If you can get this phone to work for you it's not a bad little Android device. The screen resolution is not as high as current standards but is usable for most applications. The physical keyboard plus touch screen is a nice combination that I really like. I appreciate the small physical size and the shape. The BACKTRACK rear touchpad is a neat idea if you can get used to using it. It keeps you from having to touch the screen and get finger prints all over it but is sometimes tricky to use.

Cons: Not as "unlocked" as you might think (read other reviews).

Permanently T-Mobile branded.

Requires SIM card to use at all.

Requires registering for a MOTOBLUR account to use at all.

Photos do not show the device exactly as you will receive it.
* The photos show the device with the standard slim battery and back case installed but what you get is the extended battery with the bulging back case. This may be a plus (longer lasting battery) or minus (not as slim and thin) for you but is different that what is shown.

Details say 512MB of storage but only about 80MB is usable.
* Some have reported that the phone does not actually have 512MB and others say it is just all used up by the preinstalled apps.

See other reviews for issues with it automatically sending text messages, potentially requiring a data plan from you carrier, dialing problems, incomparability with certain SIM cards or carriers, etc.

Other Thoughts: Do your homework before you buy this phone!

I needed and Android based device with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS but did not need it to access any cellular network so I picked up one of these when they were on special. For what I need it to do it works but still has some very annoying attributes.

First, without a SIM card you just get a screen that tells you there is no SIM card installed. You can't go beyond that screen to use the phone at all. You can't use the Android OS over Wi-Fi without a SIM card. So I had to go find a defunct SIM card just to use the phone even though I did not intend to use it on a cellular network.

Second, it requires a MOTOBLUR account to even use the device. This is another thing I have no use for but had to sign up for and activate just to use the device. I have no personal info on the phone but have read that there are privacy concerns with this service.

1 out of 5 eggsSucks

Pros: fast shipping, I thinkm they are trying to move this phone
quickly. As a "Unlocked phone" this one is still a T-mobile
phone. Its branded for life.

Cons: Battery life is the worst I have ever had. not even 3 hours, and i was just trying to learn the phone. I fully charged it before i installed the SIM card. Charged it like 3 times in one day just few text msg and mainly playing in the settings. The phone will not allow you to move past the login page with out registering
with "MOTOBLUR" When you to login to your email, it will sync. your address book to your phone. you have to turn off that feature in setup. it fills your phone address book with email addresses.

So if you buy this one, its wise to turn off all advenced settings and look to see what you want before you add any accounts to the phone.
Also It will not DIAL ANY MAGIC numbers. That was the killer for me. I need to call my voice mail and i use magic jack..

Other Thoughts: I like the size and weight of this phone. but it was a total waste for me I will not use it, looking for another replacement now.
