1 out of 5 eggsWorks but not well

Pros: Works for the most part but not well.

3 back covers

Cons: 1. Poor battery life
2. Overall sluggish
3. Cannot save apps to memory card
4. Unremoveable crapware
5. no pinch to zoom
6. Requires frequent reboots
7. Cheap plastic all around
8. Version I recieved is not rootable so I'm stuck with old androd os version

Other Thoughts: I thought that this phone would we worlds beyond my old Nokia E71. Well the only advantage is has over the E71 is the android app store and a standard headphone jack. The E71 has amazing battery life, very stable os, excelent build quality etc. I'm not impressed with this phone.

1 out of 5 eggsMany features but did not work basic functions when required

Pros: Full of features. Good and stylish model.

Cons: Did not work when I required this phone to function its basic feature. My wife owning this phone. It has stopped operating after she switched it on after landing in JFK. It was not getting signal even after switching it off and on several times. I was not able to contact her and could not pick her up from JFK for more than 2 hours. I think I should not have gone for such an unreliable phone which failed to serve basic purpose

Other Thoughts: I don't have any other thought other than simplicity. Do not make things so complex that it become useless at the time of need.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Little Phone

Pros: Great User Base, Easy to Root this phone and store apps to the MicroSD card, eliminating the low memory problem. After installing a nice app to control gps, backlight, wifi, ... power consumption is barely acceptable. A nice "Kill All" app is a must to reduce RAM usage when changing gears on this phone.

Cons: Sony has already shutdown the Sony Sync website, yet leaves the Sync software on the phone. Much of the useless software cannot be taken off. I have T-mobile, and made the mistake of loading T-mobile Apps which killed the phone. I had to reset everything because the T-mobile app is not nice and makes the phone useless until it is reset to factory specs.

Battery life is horrible.

Cannot hangup the phone after phone calls, usually takes 10-15 seconds to get to the hangup button.

LCD back light sucks the power, LED display would be much nicer.

Other Thoughts: It's a nice "first" android phone for me, many because I haven't used any "good" smart phone before.

4 out of 5 eggsXperia X8 - decent previous generation phone

Pros: Great call sound quality. Vibrant screen. Large user base - excellent internet support.

Cons: As reported by others, it is a bit slow out of the box, and the power consumption is high.

Other Thoughts: There are techniques to improve the speed and power consumption, and with the large user base, there are plenty of options. I can get 2-3 days standby, with wi-fi on and some Nook use. I can achieve roughly twice the performance (Quadrant) as the Xperia X10. For the price, it's a nice little unlocked phone.

1 out of 5 eggsLow price but what's the point

Pros: Nothing pro about it. The price is low but what's the point when it does now work well.

Cons: This phone is a nightmare to me. -- Does not come with a instruction menu. . The phone should have an easy way to hangs up but it is no way to end a phone call with a button. The screen goes away in seconds and you have to touch the screen to activate it but the screen is not responsive. You sometimes have to touch a few times and the phone is often not under control. I can not connect to my blue tooth device. Volume too low. Hard to work with this phone.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat as a first Android phone

Pros: Light, small, nice resolution compared to similar priced models.
Screen very responsive.
Tons of free apps for Android 2.1
Radio is a must for me and x8’s got it!
According to Sony rep, 32gb micro SD capable.
Works great on Fido, so Rogers too.

Cons: Unreadable in sunlight.
Battery life could be better.
Not enough ram unless upgraded to Android 2.2
According to Sony rep, 2.2 is not in their plans... Yet...
Low end camera.

Other Thoughts: Other launchers make it a lot more enjoyable.
I dropped it on ceramic flour and it’s still working.
Great Newegg deal!

2 out of 5 eggsannoying

Pros: The components all function well. The small size is very handy. I like the radio much better than the radio on a digital Sony walkman I got last year.

Cons: The phone is a nightmare to hang up -- I quickly upgraded Android from 1.6 to 2.1, and then I discovered that there is no way to end a phone call. In 1.6 the top button had done that job, but in 2.1 there is no button that does it. The screen goes dark, and there is nothing to tap or press or poke that simply hangs up, and it can be a multi-step process to find something that works. The screen really is too small for texting. The screen is slow to re-orient when the phone is turned. The plastic shell does not feel durable, and the first time I had to remove the back to insert the battery it was not clear how it worked, and I was afraid it would break, but I have not had any problems with it, yet.

Other Thoughts: I started using the Magenta/Pink shell to flaunt the fact that I did have a cheap phone; using the white or even the blue shell just seemed to be putting on airs of respectability. But the phone was too annoying, and I'm back to using my old Nokia E51, and I've given up, for now, my experiment with Android. I notice today that, even when turned "off", the phone drains the battery dead after a week or two.
