2 out of 5 eggsMOTOROLA TZ700 Roadster

Pros: Nice size
Battery life seems to be good
Output sound not bad

Cons: Poor mic sound quality. Get the device 2 feet from your face and it struggles to pick up the voice unless you're yelling. It's pretty much useless when clipped to the sun visor in my wife's Escape. It's half way decent clipped directly to your shirt or seat belt at mouth level. Otherwise the mic just doesn't pick-up talking.

The required app that makes the bells and whistles work has been broken since mid-late December 2013 and the speak-to-text function no longer works. Motorola has yet to fix this problem.

Other Thoughts: Really thought about returning it, but probably can't. I suspect it's been too long since I bought it (11/28/13). $40 wasted.

3 out of 5 eggsOK...

Pros: It works OK; the design is much better than previous models. Connects faster than its predecessors. It tells me which phone is (dis)connected (ie: "John's iPhone 4 is connected). I can manually adjust the FM station by simply pressing the + and - keys. The auto off/on works better than the older version I have. It will connect to more than one device (** see corresponding con below).

Cons: I bought the Motorola T505 back in 2011 and I still use it today and it works well (other than picking up a little static now and again).

I caught this on sale and was excited to see how it was improved... and while it works, I'm a little disappointed in it.

It seems to pick up a little more static than the older version. It doesn't have keys that allow me to skip forward/backward on my playlists.

*While it connects to my iPhone and my wife's iPhone simultaneously, it only streams music from the device that is connected first (it will take calls from either phone, regardless of which is connected first).

If I bought this from a local store, I'd return it... but shipping it back simply isn't worth the hassle.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Long battery life
Good sound
Auto On/Off

Cons: Not universal compatibility for MyMotospeak app
Weak FM transmitter

Other Thoughts: I bought this when Newegg had a rebate and I'm satisfied with it, especially for $20.

The roadster was easy to setup and the Bluetooth synced up with my phone in a heartbeat (no 0000 code required). I can stream bluetooth music to it with no problems.

I did have some problems with it though.

My phone Samsung Galaxy S 4G will sync with the roadster over bluetooth just fine; however, the My Motospeak app you need for hands-free dialing and all the text message features won't detect the device from my phone - even when it's currently paired over Bluetooth. My wife's Android phone doesn't have this issue so I'm hoping my next phone (Nexus 4) will work better.

My other gripe is the weak FM transmitter. The antenna for my car radio is on the roof near the back windshield so streaming audio to my car radio isn't worth it because of the near-constant static. That doesn't really bother me since that's not a major feature I bought it for.

All-in-all, I like it.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Nice form factor

Cons: Unboxed and paired to phone while charging. I was disappointed at first because apparently my phone doesn't support the feature that allows you to initiate a call from the hard button on the speaker. Considering I got this for $20 after rebate I decided that I could live with that since I could install the Motospeak app on my phone and initiate a call with one widget press.

We tested both to and from my phone and my wife's. Absolutely horrible. I had to speak at a higher than normal conversation level with the think 6" from my mouth to be heard. Which means that in a car with all the ambient white noise I would be screaming. Additionally (and worse) the calling party's voice was fedback through the mic and they could hear an echo of everything they said. It wasn't like a faint murmur either. When you could hear from the called end the caller's voice was very muffled - so the mic is just junk.

Other Thoughts: Didn't test any other features since call quality is horrid. Back in box and awaiting Newegg to provide a shipping label back for this atrocious piece of trash.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great! Simple to Use.

Pros: Simple to use. Clear to hear. A best value.

Cons: Indicator lights on side, small, and not in view when attached to visor.

Other Thoughts: After initial charge, it paired easily. Worked first time and every time since. Uses phone's voice calling features.

5 out of 5 eggsMotorola Rooadster

Pros: This thing is simply great. I love that it will transmit directly to my FM radio and use the car speakers.

Cons: Nothing I can think of.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat if you get it on sale

Pros: Very stylish. Supports 2 devices simultaneously (very cool). Syncs well and doesn't sync when you don't want it to.
Decent streaming sound quality to FM (although my car's antennae is 1 ft away, embedded in my windshield). Not sure how good it would work on the older style ones mounted in the rear of a car.
Pretty decent voice recognition. Noone complains of call quality (which I'm guessing means it sounds decent on the other end).
Voice to text and text to voice feature is VERY nice when driving. I love this feature (and it tags the outgoing msg that it was using motovoice so if it says something awful the person knows why).

Cons: Battery drains quickly if transmitting FM (about 4 days of light use to/from work) and then reports "low battery". This seems to be a little better now that it's summertime and the battery gets heated all day.
Sometimes there is a delay between pressing voice command and when the device is actually "listening" causing it to sometimes miss the first word or two (unless you just wait a second or two every time you use the voice features).
Sometimes wind noise will make it totally misunderstand what I'm saying (although speaking very loudly at it usually works).

Other Thoughts: Voice commands don't work on droid when the phone is locked (this is true of any handsfree device I've tried, but particularly annoying if your driving). I have VPN setup on my phone so it locks every time I sit it down. The solution I've come up with is to set the autolock to 30 mins and I've just gotten in the habit of using the side button to manually lock it throughout the day.
It also doesn't like other headsets at all. If you regularly use a BT headset, make sure it's turned off as you enter your car or it will not sync your phone and motorola device.

5 out of 5 eggsVery clearn no echo and Smart

Pros: This Motorola Roadster is Very clear, very Smart, and also announced the battery charge level every time you enter the car.
It turns off and turns on as needed so no need to hit the power button when the phone starts ringing or when you need to make a call. Just hit the Dial button and say the name of the person you wish to call and it dials for you!

Cons: Has no cons. the battery charge lasts for several weeks and then announces when the level reaches a Low level. Just plug it in the microUSB charger supplied with the unit and it is charged. The charger will also charge any other device (such as a phone) that uses microUSB ports for charging.

Other Thoughts: I am glad I got this from Newegg and the price was very low compared to other web sites
