5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Battery stays up on it's own, as long as it's parked in the sun.
No problem hearing the other person, or them hearing you.
Your able to disconnect it from the phone if other people are in the car with you.

Cons: I don't have any.

1 out of 5 eggsAttractive concept but flawed implementation

Pros: 1. Solar charging very convenient
2. Loud enough in my Honda Accord

Cons: One unit died just after warranty expired, second unit starting to fail, also shortly after 1 year

Other Thoughts: Solar charging for a product like this is an excellent idea, if it works but, this product simply does not deliver.

My unit started acting up shortly after its 1-year warranty expired (would get disconnected at random, LEDs started blinking, and other crazy beavior) and a couple months later it completely died.

My partner's unit, which has just passed its first year of service (and therefore, it is also out of warranty) has started to act weird in the same way. I suspect it is coming down with the same problem and will soon die.

I believe the lithium-ion battery used in this product simply is not meant to be used directly exposed to the hot sun, while being charged or discharged. As an electronics designer, having developed several mobile product with li-ion batteries myself, I know that the chemistry of these batteries cannot withstand being charged and discharged at such high temperatures. In order for this product to be able to be charged, I suspect the designers had to cut corners and allow charging at dangerously high temperatures. If they would not have done that, this product would be useless on hot summer days. So, I believe, the idea is great but the implementation (having the battery exposed to the heat) is fundamentally flawed.

When I called IOGEAR's customer support, they simply reminded me of the fact that the warranty was over, and offered no help whatsoever.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The problem you are describing can be related to your environment and excessive heat. This devise is rated at -4 degree Fahrenheit ~ 158 degree Fahrenheit. The GBHFK231 carries a one year warranty. If the GBHFK231 was within the one year warranty period it would be replaced through the RMA process. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsOk while they last

Pros: Solar recharging works well; nice not to have wires all over the car. Visor clip lets you place it closer to you for times when you need to have an extended call. Otherwise, the windshield-mounted holder works well and keeps it charged.

Cons: Sound quality is not great. Had 2 units and both died after about 18 months. Not inclined to buy again.

Other Thoughts: Looking for a better solar solution...

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly! Never have to charge!

Pros: I have purchased 2 of these: one for my mother and one for my father-in-law. Neither of them have needed to charge it with the USB cable. My father-in-law sometimes spends most of his day driving and talking.

Sound is clear and microphone works very well.

Cons: Wish it had an FM tuner to re-broadcast through the car speakers.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Wireless, intuitive and easy to use. Solar charge and wire charge are great features. Visor clip is perfect. I like that it rings when the phone receives a call, much easier to hear than the phone in my purse. Compact size is also a bonus. Works well most of the time but occasionally will be static for the listening caller that is usually fixed by plugging in for a charge or turning it off and on. A moderate volume works best for clarity on incoming voices.

Cons: The dashboard mount suction cup doesn't stick well. I tried to stick it on with water and it works for about day before it falls off again. Now to solar charge I simply flip the device backwards and drop the sun shade so the light hits it. Its a tight fit to wire charge it when its in the visor clip cradle, but its doable. Generally the call quality is good, but I have gotten complaints occasionally of static/far away sound. I think it may be related to how charged up it is. I'll usually switch to handheld at that point and then the next time I reconnect to the bluetooth it seems to be fine.
Also, the louder you have the speaker, it seems that the quality becomes more crackly and less clear, so a moderate volume works best.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a good device and worth it if you need hands free and can get it for a good price.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: -Never need to charge
-Good voice clarity
-Quick to sync to phone

Cons: -I have to turn off the radio myself when I get a call

Other Thoughts: It's been over a year since I first charged it by cord and I have yet to charge it since. Works fantastic and is a heck of a lot cheaper then getting a Bluetooth sync feature in most new cars.
I recommend this to everyone I know who doesn't have Bluetooth integrated in their car.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT !!!

Pros: One of the best, most useful items I have EVER gotten !!!
Sound quality is perfect, stays charged, easy to use.
This is a very smart & wonderful item - HIGHLY recommended.

Cons: (Just kidding here) It needs a neck lanyard so it can be used more easily while out walking ?!?

Other Thoughts: I only have good & positive things to say about this; recommended it to friends who also got it and they enjoy their's as much as I do mine - in fact, one friend lost his to his wife and had to buy another !!!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Choice

Pros: Easy to setup and Use. No batteries required

Cons: Lack of an interface of any kind makes configuration issues and problems difficult to investigate. When several people use the car you want the bluetooth to easy pick up the new user. Became confusing. I guess it has a multiuser mode which kills the multicall mode.

Other Thoughts: Up and died after a year and a half. I guess I got over a year - which is the warranty but still frustrating. Should last much longer with mild use

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money.. get something that works.

Pros: None

Cons: Well first off right out of the box it barely held a charge. It worked for about 2 weeks but the sound quality was not that good and it kept dropping the BT synch. Then eventually it just died. Totally dead.. The customer service leaves a bit to be desired as well.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend this product. Save your money and put it toward something that will work better for you because this is not it.
