Thirty years after their first invasion, the Space Invaders have returned. This time they're better armed and have new tricks – but then, so do you. Take on the familiar looking aliens as they attack not only in their traditional formations, but in streaking dive-bombing attacks, and other combinations. Destroy specific combinations of aliens to receive power-ups.
Four red aliens destroyed rewards you with a cluster bomb attack while a quartet of destroyed blue aliens gives you a devastating laser beam that can wipe out entire rows of aliens. Shoot down the flying saucer for additional effects. Make your way through the levels to confront the boss aliens along with special bonus levels. Checkpoints along the way allow you to save your progress so that you can pick up where you left off.
The upper screen on the DS provides information on mission objectives as well as score. The game is accompanied by hopping techno music and psychadellic backgrounds (which can be turned off) to add to the energetic frenzy. Despite the glitz and flash, Space Invaders Extreme remains true to the original – get them before they get you.

Hell yeah!
- Pros: + It's Space Invaders.
+ The visuals are very well done. The background consists of psychedelic FMVs which gives the game a neat, surreal look. The enemies still have their classic design, which should be nostalgic for those who played Space Invaders back in the day. + The use of music is pretty interesting. All of the sound effects are synchronized with the music, so you sort of create your own melodies to the music. + Awesome techno soundtrack. Gets you in the right mood. + The scoring system is surprisingly deep. It'll keep any high-score nut satisfied for a long time. + The use of the DS's two screens gets pretty creative at times. There's one boss fight where you're on the top screen and the boss is on the bottom one. Since you obviously can't shoot down, you have to ricochet your bullets off the shielded enemies at the top of the top screen to hit him. + Difficulty is perfect; Not too easy but not too hard. There is an optional "Extreme" difficulty for the sadomasochists.
- Cons: - I bought my copy from GameStop. The amount of stickers they think they need to put on the cases is ridiculous. Seriously, putting more than one price sticker on your product should be punishable by death without trial. It also doesn't help that they use some of the stickiest residue on the entire planet. It's a nightmare to get them off properly.
- Other Thoughts: Seriously, this game is awesome. Get it.
Very Good Game for a Low Price!
- Pros: First of all, the graphics of the game is incredible. The moving backgrounds add a great characteristic feel to this game. And still keeps it retro by keeping the same design of the enemies and your ship. However, the enemies are given a new twist (A huge variety of enemies) You are also given weapon power-ups that are extremely lethal. There are also combos you can make to spawn bonus rounds for points or extra lives, etc. Secondly, the game has a fair replay value. There is not 1 one way to finish the game, but 3. And the levels from each ending increase in difficulty. If you think shooting little ships is easy, think again. Lastly, it has multiplayer. Wifi, wireless with a friend (One of you needs just one game), you name it. I haven't tried it but it looks fun.
- Cons: Increasing difficulty (I like, but some may not.). The game gives you X amount of lives from the start, but as you diminish from level to level until you die, you will have to "replay" the level from the beginning. Extremely frustrating if you racked up a high score in that level.
- Other Thoughts: This game is great for a trip. Although it is basically the same formula as the original Space Invaders, it is fun in short bursts.
